I love how when everyone talks about Vancouver it’s always about the downtown part. It would be cool to see the lesser known parts of the city, the parts with less tourists.
I'm from Vancouver. I love south Granville (right across the Granville bridge that takes you to the clubs). There are a lot of shops and cafés. UBC is the local university, but it's pretty much a mini city. Spanish banks and Jericho are other beaches, but my favourite beach is Kits. Across the street, there are a lot of restaurants and the beach feels very urban which I like. During the summer, there is the PNE and Richmond night market (not in Vancouver, but a bridge away). That's all I can think of off the top of my head. And yaletown is a neighbourhood downtown with really good restaurants.

I’m from Toronto, what I liked about Vancouver was this serene laidback feeling the city has. No one seemed to be rushing to get places, I attributed this to the mountain/ocean views, I felt super calm the whole time I was there. The bike lane network was incredible. It was weird seeing electrified buses hooked up like streetcars. Negative point: I’ve never seen homelessness like I did there, particularly daytime heroine use.
Vancouver adopts a lot of homeless from across the country due to mild winters. They are not completely home grown , a lot come from east of the Rockies. Its not accurate to blame Vancouver as the cause.

She’s always telling me about how so many people come from the colder regions of Canada like the prairies in search of a warmer climate. The sad part is, a lot of said people are not only less fortunate, but don’t do their research before migrating and are unaware of the high cost of living, specifically housing, here in BC. As a result, some have been known to end up on the streets of Vancouver, as like you stated, it has one of the most mild climates in Canada. There’s a very good chance that a good chunk of those homeless people you see come from other provinces. You could say it’s a homeless trap as opposed to a tourist trap. It’s quite unfortunate really.
I was hoping you'd touch on the cost of living and what the economy is like there comparative to Canada. Everybody I talk to over here in Newfoundland goes, "Vancouvers nice but it costs an arm and a leg to live there! Good luck". Maybe you should do a video showcasing "Best Places to Live in Canada" and talk about some of the reasons why you think that! Just an idea. Great video!
I was in Newfoundland in late May and early June. It was a beautiful place to visit and I look forward to going back some day to see more of the island. I was in Vancouver a week ago and it was also a beautiful place to visit but I don’t feel the same desire to visit again soon.
@@donald3210 Totally agree. Idk. I would say thats the atmosphere. Like in Newfoundland that's about the pristine nature and the people. While in Vancouver nature isn't that pristine and people aren't that genuine when you pay a closer look. Like that's just a mostly ordinary big city. Just imho.
I'm from Seattle, and I visited Vancouver several years ago. Just like Portland, Vancouver felt similar to Seattle in many ways. the main thing was that Vancouver struck me as a place that Seattle could be in 10 years of advancement in public transit, intercity connectedness, and city planning (zoning). Beyond that, I went to college 15 miles south of the border and visited Abbotsford, white rock, and Point Roberts, etc.
Vancouver has pretty sound city planning. Seattle has NO city planning. All Seattle ever does is let a city block (or two) lay abandoned for several years, then build expensive condos for the wealthy on the same site. By contrast, Vancouver transformed an old shipyard into The Shipyards District, with shops, restaurants, and other attractions. San Francisco did something similar with Ghirardelli Square, built on the site of an old chocolate factory. Seattle has NEVER done anything like that.
That’s why I’m so lucky to live in southern Ontario, cause we only get snow November to March. Bruh, you don’t even have beaches in Alberta, am I wrong?
I've been to Vancouver once, as a 16-year-old. I really liked it for the most part. Lots of scenic beauty, whether it was mountains, oceans, or tall trees in Stanley Park. The neighbourhoods had character too. The one part which was jarring was that the Downtown Lower Eastside is pretty close to Gastown, and you can pretty easily wander into it without intending to. It's not a dangerous place for tourists, but it's a neighbourhood unlike many in Canada. Seeing that many homeless people with obvious mental health and drug issues in one place really struck me.
Totally agree - that pocket is not just the worst in Canada by far but likely the worst in North America and rivals the ghettoes of Cairo and São Paulo. It really is quite the scene. The BBC did a documentary on it just before COVID that was pretty blunt in its descriptions.
@@JeffKing310 I don't know if I would compare it to Cairo or Sao Paulo. They're very different, and I would say the other two have problems the Eastside doesn't. I've been to Cairo, including walking in some of the poorer parts, and there was a much deeper level of poverty there. (A lot of children beg for money on the street in Cairo. The parents frequently have a drug problem from what I gather.) I haven't been to Sao Paolo, but if the reported murder rates are even remotely accurate, it is a lot more violent than the Lower Eastside, and most places in the world. But I do think it's comparable to somewhere like the Tenderloin District in San Francisco or Skid Row in Los Angeles. The real problem in the Eastside isn't really crime per se. The crime rate is higher than average, but it's not stupidly high and it's mostly against people who are homeless there. This is bad, but it also means that if you're a tourist or an outsider in the neighbourhood, you shouldn't be overly scared. Mostly, the problem a lot of the people who live on the streets have there is keeping themselves healthy and alive.

@CMelYT no one watches it for education. If you want education in this area don't watch youtube, or at least not videos with comfy style animation. Most people just want to find there some "persinality test" thing, or asmr-like content. Which is exactly what thex make.
Been to Vancouver several times. Most recently I went this summer for a few days to visit a friend. We did the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. It was really nice and free (if you're looking to avoid that $53 price at Capilano Suspension Bridge).
I went to Vancouver when i was about 12 and i remember all these landmarks, i recall my parents being more excited about gastown than my brother and I, i remember waiting in line to the Grouse Mt gondala. I think my favourite touristy thing was the acquarium honestly. Great Video J.J
@Todd Jodoin Its called projection! Whose the boring ass? He was 12! Even then, he didn't see the point of Gas Town. I lived for a while in Vancouver and have been to all the places mentioned. I avoid Robson, Davie and Denman, just as much as Gas Town. I have taken a visitor to the Capilano Suspension Bridge , the fish ladder below the damn and up Grouse on the Gondola as it is convienient that they are all close together. But, if there was enough time, I would have hiked Lynn Canyon, for the suspension bridge and I'd rather hike Seymour or Cypress for the views. They don't call it the Grouse Grind for nothing. And, even an old nature loving Boomer like me would never go to the Gondola without checking my cellphone to see if it was open.
maybe its that regular white folks are just too pour to travel to Vancouver other than going to Tim Hortons and call it a true Canadian experience . others might be worried about bumping into family members living on Hastings.
that was 30 years ago now liberals took over the city and beggars and druggies are everywhere even doing drugs at the law-court its so dirty now compared to back then. so sad. i recommend not to even bother with downtown.
PSA: Instead of Capilano Suspension Bridge you could have gone to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge. It's a 15 minute drive from Capilano, plenty scary (for those scared by suspension bridges), and is free.

@@andrewseary Nope, that's definitely Cap Canyon. Lynn Valley's isn't that wide, that long, that flat, or that crowded. It also doesn't have a building at the end, as at 9:00. And it is _much_ scarier than Capilano.
Victoria is further west than Vancouver AND is the warmest city in Canada AND has 30% less rain than Vancouver. So, I wonder what other falsehoods are spoken on this video. 😉

Moved from Ireland to Vancouver last year. Lasted 9 months then moved home. It was very very expensive. Not what I expected at all. When I got back to Ireland people asked me what it was like, i just said it’s great for a holiday but for m personally couldn’t live there long term. I enjoyed Seattle at lot more, visited maybe 4 times while I was over there. Still a very Great video JJ!
I've been to Vancouver twice and very much enjoyed it, though it is one of the pricier places to visit in North America. When in Vancouver I passed on the Capilano bridge and instead went to the Lynn Canyon bridge, which is free and much less crowded.
It isn't free. Its paid for by taxpayers. We don't object to you using it, but we'd prefer that you not let all the other tourists know. We don't want it to get too crowded.
When I visited Vancouver from Seattle I was shocked by how patriotic Canadians were. I always thought Americans were over the top but Canada said “Hold my beer.”

Victoria has better weather than Vancouver. We tend to get even less snow here compared to the Lower Mainland, and it rains about twice as much in Vancouver as it does in Victoria. Also, Vancouver Island is further west.
I've been to Vancouver 3 times as a tourist and I can't never get enough of it...beautiful nature, trendy shops and restaurants, and of course the ocean!! I'd move to Vancouver in a heartbeat if it wasn't so expensive. Thanks for the educational and informative video!
Vancouver is like a second home to me. Growing up, my family and I went there every summer to visit relatives. My favorite part is definitely Stanley Park. I love walking along the seawall, even though it takes three hours. The views and scenery are absolutely incredible. Even though they aren't "Vancouver" proper, I also really enjoy North Vancouver and West Vancouver. They still have a big city vibe, but also lots of nature.
I am from Toronto but I loved Vancouver so much the first time I went there, that I continued to go there every year... and eventually moved there. Such an amazing place to live.
My memory of Vancouver is one shrouded in nostalgia. I was 15, it was summer break and life was stress free. The song Dancing Queen by Abba plays on loop as I think of waiting in line to get on the ferry to Vancouver Island.
I have family in Vancouver and I love visiting. The two things I love about it are, it’s natural beauty and climate. When you visit from other parts of Canada during the winter time, it’s pleasant because it seems so warm. And, when visiting during the summer it’s pleasant because it’s warm but not too hot. Perfect mild summer weather. Btw, I laughed so hard at forested tumour! Great video.
the best part of vancouver when I went last summer in 2019 was hiking at grouse mountain, going to a korean bbq in Robson street, riding the sky train, going to lions gate bridge, going to park royal mall and metrotown mall, going to some parks, getting bubble tea :p, and going to canada place in the fly over. i also went to north van. loved it there. but the worst part of my trip was leaving :( . i hope i can go back there this summer lol. :)

I sadly have never been to the Pacific north west, as I've lived my whole life in the "midwest" region of the USA. Vancouver seems like a very interesting place to be so I will definitely add it to my bucket list.
It's an incredibly beautiful place. But if you're up for a suggestion: visit either Vancouver Island, BC (much more geared for tourists, more outdoor things to do, more beaches, and absolutely beautiful, the only drawback is you MUST have a car while visiting, as public transport is bus only and is quite confusing if you don't have a great knowledge of it), or Seattle, WA (which has a more urban feel, but being bigger than Vancouver has a lot more things to do!) over Vancouver. Nothing against Vancouver itself, but it felt very difficult to navigate compared to the other places (if you hadn't been there before)
Every time anotber UA-camr that I watch appears on JJ's channel, I am reminded that my combination of interests is not as unique as I think. Also, I have still not yet been to Vancouver, but this video has renewed my commitment to visit in May after I get through one last grueling year of college. It'll be a nice little reward to myself!
Born and raised in Prince George, I moved to the Okanagan by Grade 11, moved to Kelowna for College, and moved to Burnaby for work as a software engineer, and now I live in the rural bits of the Langley Township. Vancouver to me was a status symbol of making it in this world, at least to a poor child like myself aspiring to be in tech. When I got there, it took only a few weeks for the novelty to completely wear off. I took regular trips out to downtown Vancouver to do meetups, and my wife and kids and I would just sometimes go for a drive and cruise around. Once youre done viewing all the really cool buildings you're NOT allowed to do anything with without special clearance, you're basically done. All the malls sell the same tchochkeys and tourist trinkets and especially clothes. The NUMBER of clothing shops boggles and numbs my mind, but the relatively tiny tiny TINY number of tech stores was a weird thing to wrap my mind around. Personally, I've found solace in surrounding myself with acres and acres of sun kissed fields closer to Abbotsford and the Border, away from the concrete jungle, and intensely overcrowded spaces
I live in seattle and come to vancouver pretty often. I just love coming up to stanley park, eating and also just enjoying the shopping there. But mostly eating!!
Ironically the best spots of Vancouver are outside of the downtown area (skiing/museums/gardens). The exception is stanley park, but i would struggle to call that "downtown"
They come from the rest of the country for heroin and the for fact that this is the only place in Canada where they won't freeze to death. Social workers in other provinces used to give them bus tickets to get here.

I moved to Vancouver a few months ago. Very nice, very Canadian city with one exception - unbelievable amount of homelessness, drug use and petty crime that would put most American cities to shame. The temperate climate makes year round outdoor living more do able I guess. But wow, a lot of walking zombies and people with severe mental health challenges.
I am an American. I've been to Victoria and never been to Vancouver. Vancouver is a beautiful city just by looking at it. Victoria is the only place I went to in Canada. I see you are right at home going through the city. Visiting the places within your hometown is golden.
Thamy, I don't speak Portuguese, but I watched a couple of your video's. You look like you are having way more fun in Vancouver than JJ. He is just making fun of the stupid tourists in this video. You are showing people the fun things you do. You might be making fun of us stupid Canadians to your Brazilian audience for all I know, but you sure are having fun doing it. JJ rubs some Canadians the wrong was as he is usually bitching about Canada for an American audience. I may not speak Portuguese, but I've spent a lot of time in South America, and I know that it is okay for a Peruvian or a Chilean to criticize their country to another Peruvian or Chilean, but criticizing it to an American is frowned upon. Some don't even like to call them Americans, they are Estadounidense. I used to live in Vancouver and have been to all the places in this video. Some are places I would take visitors (Capilano, Granville Island, Stanley Park, even Grouse Mountain), but I'd avoid taking them to any of the streets he mentioned unless they expressed an interest. If I was worried about cost I'd go to Lynn Canyon for the suspension bridge, or drive up Cypress for the view. I'd go to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC if I wanted to show totem poles and native culture. I've taken visitors to Steveston, and Langley. I've never taken anyone to Gastown. Most of what JJ recommends is stuff I can find in any large city, Donair and Fries , Sushi, Pubs, entertainment districts shopping districts, they are not unique to Vancouver. In Brazilian terms if I go to Rio de Janiero, I'm going at Carnival and I'm damn sure going to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer, and the Playa de Copacabana. They might be tourist traps but they are what makes Rio unique. I'm sure to find shops, restaurants and bars. Probably even, Starbucks and McDonalds just like on Robson Steet.
If I am making my way to North Van, Dog Mountain Trail is my go to. Currently living in Burnaby as i used to live in kits and pay an arm and leg for rent lol.

As someone from Saskatchewan I have to say Vancouver is one of my most favourite cities in Canada- al though, not a fan of rain coming from one of the most sunniest spots in Canada it’s a hard adjustment - feels a little depressing. Love the hustle and bustle of the city, the views, the vibes! I notice the people in Vancouver socialize and interact quite different than other Canadians, could just be the big city feel! Over all though, I love the city and am planning on going to film school over there:)

My parents and I have lived in Calgary since 2003. We used to live in China and Russia. We went to Vancouver in 2007, 2010 and 2021. I think Vancouver has more variety of experiences but I don't know if I prefer living in such a busy city.
My grandparents were from Vancouver. My Grandfather was Squamish and my grandmother's family was originally from Quebec. When they got together they immigrated to San Diego, California. I love your videos because there are so well done and I get a little nostalgic from the way you speak as it reminds me of the way my grandparents spoke. Thank you for the excellent content :)
We've been to Vancouver three times from the UK and loved every minute in the city, and also in Chilliwack, where we have friends. We would love to come again but the travel insurance is now too high for us to afford. Good luck everyone in Vancouver. We were the only passengers in the small aircraft formation which flew over Golden Ears Bridge on its opening day. We have the only video and photographs from the sky! Wonderful times! Well Vancouver really has 3 million people that are just divided into multiple municipalities. Its not super amalgamated like Toronto or New York for example.
I have been all over Canada and what stands out about Vancouver... it was the only time in my life I'd seen an intravenous drug user with a needle in his arm passed out in a bush. Right downtown. It was headtrippingly sad. And graphic. And just... right there. For the record, I live in Hamilton Ontario, you think I would have seen this before but you would be wrong.

As a Vancouver expat living in Seattle I can say wholeheartedly the beaches here suck. Can't wait till they start bringing my Canucks down here to play. 3 or 4 NHL games I can afford lol.
This is one of your most interesting videos. In some ways Vancouver seems a lot like Boston, MA, and in other ways [not just the Winter weather], definitely not. It would be interesting to watch a JJ compares Boston and Vancouver video.
Ive been to Vancouver and I mostly went to UBC and the places around it. My favorite spot out of all of the tourist traps was Granville island, mostly cause of the food. Originally from Texas, my brother went to UBC and we avoided most of the tourist traps. I love the city and my favorite part is the seafood and asian food.
I was literally in Vancouver last week! Im from Ottawa, so it was great to see sort of a different culture almost, which was surprising. (I did 70% of the tourist stuff you said... 😁)
You are uniquely beautiful yourself! I have been to Vancouver before and loved your city. It's beautiful and clean. I rode the sky-train subway and was amazed at how clean it was. I stayed downtown and spent an afternoon on Granville Island. I purchased some white raspberries in a market on the island. I had never had white raspberries before. In total, I was there about four/five days. We went to Stanley Park, rode the river taxi hydro-boat across the river close to the Canada Place cruise terminal and ate at a river-front market type place. We also had lunch one day at Hamburger Mary's. Would love to return someday. I also met a gorgeous Norwegian while I was there. I would love to meet you someday. I went to Vancouver this summer to visit my uncle and it's so weird seeing all these places I've seen before and its kind of weird to think that I may have been on at least one of the buses in the background!
In a good way this video made me cry because. Vancouver is my home but unfortunately I live in disgusting UK but everyone is rude and just like it’s not very nice but on the first opportunity I can I’m moving back I’ve literally been to all of these places but the last time I went there was a fire and I couldn’t go up the mountain even though we really wanted to we rode Mobies to Granville Island pretty much every day And my dad bought some disgusting chilies which we’ve not eaten yet you should’ve mentioned and the little islands off Vancouver because that’s where my sister got married and the boat ride is gorgeous but yeah thank you for making my day by making this video ☺️

I was in Vancouver seven weeks ago & I stayed downtown in the outdated and over-priced Century Plaza. Sadly, my endearing memory of downtown Vancouver is the share number of homeless. Distressed mental patients. Druggies looking for their next fix. Tent encampments down every alley. Police turning a blind-eye to people shooting-up. Authorities uninterested in the welfare of fellow citizens in need. Street people who use the gutters as toilets. Note: I didn’t find Vancouver unsafe. But as a tourist it’s not a city I would recommend visiting. Advice: get off the plane and stay out to Victoria.

I love how when everyone talks about Vancouver it’s always about the downtown part. It would be cool to see the lesser known parts of the city, the parts with less tourists.

I'm from Vancouver. I love south Granville (right across the Granville bridge that takes you to the clubs). There are a lot of shops and cafés. UBC is the local university, but it's pretty much a mini city. Spanish banks and Jericho are other beaches, but my favourite beach is Kits. Across the street, there are a lot of restaurants and the beach feels very urban which I like. During the summer, there is the PNE and Richmond night market (not in Vancouver, but a bridge away). That's all I can think of off the top of my head. And yaletown is a neighbourhood downtown with really good restaurants.

Great job. You can tell there was a lot of love put into this video, and you captured a lot more of the "soul" of the city than I ever could as a non-resident. I've only been once (albeit briefly) but hope to return soon and maybe even visit you (I also have relatives in Greater Vancouver) and perhaps avoid some of those tourist traps, although Stanley Park looks amazing. I’m from Toronto, what I liked about Vancouver was this serene laidback feeling the city has. No one seemed to be rushing to get places, I attributed this to the mountain/ocean views, I felt super calm the whole time I was there.
The bike lane network was incredible. It was weird seeing electrified buses hooked up like streetcars.
Negative point: I’ve never seen homelessness like I did there, particularly daytime heroine use.

Vancouver adopts a lot of homeless from across the country due to mild winters. They are not completely home grown , a lot come from east of the Rockies. Its not accurate to blame Vancouver as the cause.

She’s always telling me about how so many people come from the colder regions of Canada like the prairies in search of a warmer climate. The sad part is, a lot of said people are not only less fortunate, but don’t do their research before migrating and are unaware of the high cost of living, specifically housing, here in BC.
As a result, some have been known to end up on the streets of Vancouver, as like you stated, it has one of the most mild climates in Canada. There’s a very good chance that a good chunk of those homeless people you see come from other provinces. You could say it’s a homeless trap as opposed to a tourist trap. It’s quite unfortunate really.

I'm from Seattle, and I visited Vancouver several years ago. Just like Portland, Vancouver felt similar to Seattle in many ways. the main thing was that Vancouver struck me as a place that Seattle could be in 10 years of advancement in public transit, intercity connectedness, and city planning (zoning). Beyond that, I went to college 15 miles south of the border and visited Abbotsford, white rock, and Point Roberts, etc.
Point Roberts is still here in Washington. But I understand that you went there.

Vancouver has pretty sound city planning. Seattle has NO city planning.
All Seattle ever does is let a city block (or two) lay abandoned for several years, then build expensive condos for the wealthy on the same site.
By contrast, Vancouver transformed an old shipyard into The Shipyards District, with shops, restaurants, and other attractions. San Francisco did something similar with Ghirardelli Square, built on the site of an old chocolate factory. Seattle has NEVER done anything like that.

I've been to Vancouver once, as a 16-year-old. I really liked it for the most part. Lots of scenic beauty, whether it was mountains, oceans, or tall trees in Stanley Park. The neighbourhoods had character too.
The one part which was jarring was that the Downtown Lower Eastside is pretty close to Gastown, and you can pretty easily wander into it without intending to. It's not a dangerous place for tourists, but it's a neighbourhood unlike many in Canada. Seeing that many homeless people with obvious mental health and drug issues in one place really struck me.
Totally agree - that pocket is not just the worst in Canada by far but likely the worst in North America and rivals the ghettoes of Cairo and São Paulo.
It really is quite the scene.
The BBC did a documentary on it just before COVID that was pretty blunt in its descriptions.
@@JeffKing310 I don't know if I would compare it to Cairo or Sao Paulo. They're very different, and I would say the other two have problems the Eastside doesn't.
I've been to Cairo, including walking in some of the poorer parts, and there was a much deeper level of poverty there. (A lot of children beg for money on the street in Cairo. The parents frequently have a drug problem from what I gather.)
I haven't been to Sao Paolo, but if the reported murder rates are even remotely accurate, it is a lot more violent than the Lower Eastside, and most places in the world.
But I do think it's comparable to somewhere like the Tenderloin District in San Francisco or Skid Row in Los Angeles.
The real problem in the Eastside isn't really crime per se. The crime rate is higher than average, but it's not stupidly high and it's mostly against people who are homeless there. This is bad, but it also means that if you're a tourist or an outsider in the neighbourhood, you shouldn't be overly scared.
Mostly, the problem a lot of the people who live on the streets have there is keeping themselves healthy and alive.
That area is jarring to us people living in Vancouver also.

Been to Vancouver several times. Most recently I went this summer for a few days to visit a friend. We did the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. It was really nice and free (if you're looking to avoid that $53 price at Capilano Suspension Bridge).
I went to Vancouver when i was about 12 and i remember all these landmarks, i recall my parents being more excited about gastown than my brother and I, i remember waiting in line to the Grouse Mt gondala. I think my favourite touristy thing was the acquarium honestly. Great Video J.J

I avoid Robson, Davie and Denman, just as much as Gas Town. I have taken a visitor to the Capilano Suspension Bridge , the fish ladder below the damn and up Grouse on the Gondola as it is convienient that they are all close together. But, if there was enough time, I would have hiked Lynn Canyon, for the suspension bridge and I'd rather hike Seymour or Cypress for the views. They don't call it the Grouse Grind for nothing. And, even an old nature loving Boomer like me would never go to the Gondola without checking my cellphone to see if it was open.

PSA: Instead of Capilano Suspension Bridge you could have gone to the Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge. It's a 15 minute drive from Capilano, plenty scary (for those scared by suspension bridges), and is free.

Nope, that's definitely Cap Canyon. Lynn Valley's isn't that wide, that long, that flat, or that crowded. It also doesn't have a building at the end, as at 9:00. And it is _much_ scarier than Capilano.

Moved from Ireland to Vancouver last year. Lasted 9 months then moved home. It was very very expensive. Not what I expected at all. When I got back to Ireland people asked me what it was like, i just said it’s great for a holiday but for m personally couldn’t live there long term. I enjoyed Seattle at lot more, visited maybe 4 times while I was over there. Still a very Great video JJ!
I've been to Vancouver twice and very much enjoyed it, though it is one of the pricier places to visit in North America. When in Vancouver I passed on the Capilano bridge and instead went to the Lynn Canyon bridge, which is free and much less crowded.

Victoria has better weather than Vancouver. We tend to get even less snow here compared to the Lower Mainland, and it rains about twice as much in Vancouver as it does in Victoria. Also, Vancouver Island is further west.

Vancouver is like a second home to me. Growing up, my family and I went there every summer to visit relatives.
My favorite part is definitely Stanley Park. I love walking along the seawall, even though it takes three hours. The views and scenery are absolutely incredible.
Even though they aren't "Vancouver" proper, I also really enjoy North Vancouver and West Vancouver. They still have a big city vibe, but also lots of nature.
I am from Toronto but I loved Vancouver so much the first time I went there, that I continued to go there every year... and eventually moved there. Such an amazing place to live.

My memory of Vancouver is one shrouded in nostalgia. I was 15, it was summer break and life was stress free. The song Dancing Queen by Abba plays on loop as I think of waiting in line to get on the ferry to Vancouver Island.
I have family in Vancouver and I love visiting. The two things I love about it are, it’s natural beauty and climate. When you visit from other parts of Canada during the winter time, it’s pleasant because it seems so warm. And, when visiting during the summer it’s pleasant because it’s warm but not too hot. Perfect mild summer weather. Btw, I laughed so hard at forested tumour! Great video.
the best part of vancouver when I went last summer in 2019 was hiking at grouse mountain, going to a korean bbq in Robson street, riding the sky train, going to lions gate bridge, going to park royal mall and metrotown mall, going to some parks, getting bubble tea :p, and going to canada place in the fly over. i also went to north van. loved it there. but the worst part of my trip was leaving :( . i hope i can go back there this summer lol. :)

I sadly have never been to the Pacific north west, as I've lived my whole life in the "midwest" region of the USA. Vancouver seems like a very interesting place to be so I will definitely add it to my bucket list.
It's an incredibly beautiful place. But if you're up for a suggestion: visit either Vancouver Island, BC (much more geared for tourists, more outdoor things to do, more beaches, and absolutely beautiful, the only drawback is you MUST have a car while visiting, as public transport is bus only and is quite confusing if you don't have a great knowledge of it), or Seattle, WA (which has a more urban feel, but being bigger than Vancouver has a lot more things to do!) over Vancouver. Nothing against Vancouver itself, but it felt very difficult to navigate compared to the other places (if you hadn't been there before)

Every time anotber UA-camr that I watch appears on JJ's channel, I am reminded that my combination of interests is not as unique as I think.
Also, I have still not yet been to Vancouver, but this video has renewed my commitment to visit in May after I get through one last grueling year of college. It'll be a nice little reward to myself!

Born and raised in Prince George, I moved to the Okanagan by Grade 11, moved to Kelowna for College, and moved to Burnaby for work as a software engineer, and now I live in the rural bits of the Langley Township. Vancouver to me was a status symbol of making it in this world, at least to a poor child like myself aspiring to be in tech. When I got there, it took only a few weeks for the novelty to completely wear off. I took regular trips out to downtown Vancouver to do meetups, and my wife and kids and I would just sometimes go for a drive and cruise around. Once youre done viewing all the really cool buildings you're NOT allowed to do anything with without special clearance, you're basically done. All the malls sell the same tchochkeys and tourist trinkets and especially clothes. The NUMBER of clothing shops boggles and numbs my mind, but the relatively tiny tiny TINY number of tech stores was a weird thing to wrap my mind around. Personally, I've found solace in surrounding myself with acres and acres of sun kissed fields closer to Abbotsford and the Border, away from the concrete jungle, and intensely overcrowded spaces

Ironically the best spots of Vancouver are outside of the downtown area (skiing/museums/gardens). The exception is stanley park, but i would struggle to call that "downtown"
They come from the rest of the country for heroin and the for fact that this is the only place in Canada where they won't freeze to death. Social workers in other provinces used to give them bus tickets to get here.

I moved to Vancouver a few months ago. Very nice, very Canadian city with one exception - unbelievable amount of homelessness, drug use and petty crime that would put most American cities to shame.
The temperate climate makes year round outdoor living more do able I guess. But wow, a lot of walking zombies and people with severe mental health challenges.
I am an American. I've been to Victoria and never been to Vancouver. Vancouver is a beautiful city just by looking at it. Victoria is the only place I went to in Canada. I see you are right at home going through the city. Visiting the places within your hometown is golden.

You are showing people the fun things you do. You might be making fun of us stupid Canadians to your Brazilian audience for all I know, but you sure are having fun doing it. JJ rubs some Canadians the wrong was as he is usually bitching about Canada for an American audience. I may not speak Portuguese, but I've spent a lot of time in South America,
and I know that it is okay for a Peruvian or a Chilean to criticize their country to another Peruvian or Chilean, but criticizing it to an American is frowned upon. Some don't even like to call them Americans, they are Estadounidense. I used to live in Vancouver and have been to all the places in this video. Some are places I would take visitors (Capilano, Granville Island, Stanley Park, even Grouse Mountain), but I'd avoid taking them to any of the streets he mentioned unless they expressed an interest. If I was worried about cost I'd go to Lynn Canyon for the suspension bridge, or drive up Cypress for the view. I'd go to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC if I wanted to show totem poles and native culture. I've taken visitors to Steveston, and Langley. I've never taken anyone to Gastown. Most of what JJ recommends is stuff I can find in any large city, Donair and Fries , Sushi, Pubs, entertainment districts shopping districts, they are not unique to Vancouver. In Brazilian terms if I go to Rio de Janiero, I'm going at Carnival and I'm damn sure going to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer, and the Playa de Copacabana. They might be tourist traps but they are what makes Rio unique. I'm sure to find shops, restaurants and bars. Probably even, Starbucks and McDonalds just like on Robson Steet.

As someone from Saskatchewan I have to say Vancouver is one of my most favourite cities in Canada- al though, not a fan of rain coming from one of the most sunniest spots in Canada it’s a hard adjustment - feels a little depressing. Love the hustle and bustle of the city, the views, the vibes! I notice the people in Vancouver socialize and interact quite different than other Canadians, could just be the big city feel! Over all though, I love the city and am planning on going to film school over there:)

My parents and I have lived in Calgary since 2003. We used to live in China and Russia. We went to Vancouver in 2007, 2010 and 2021. I think Vancouver has more variety of experiences but I don't know if I prefer living in such a busy city.
My grandparents were from Vancouver. My Grandfather was Squamish and my grandmother's family was originally from Quebec. When they got together they immigrated to San Diego, California. I love your videos because there are so well done and I get a little nostalgic from the way you speak as it reminds me of the way my grandparents spoke. Thank you for the excellent content :)

We've been to Vancouver three times from the UK and loved every minute in the city, and also in Chilliwack, where we have friends. We would love to come again but the travel insurance is now too high for us to afford. Good luck everyone in Vancouver. We were the only passengers in the small aircraft formation which flew over Golden Ears Bridge on its opening day. We have the only video and photographs from the sky! Wonderful times! We now get our kicks by visiting sites such as yours, so thank you!

Well Vancouver really has 3 million people that are just divided into multiple municipalities. Its not super amalgamated like Toronto or New York for example.

I have been all over Canada and what stands out about Vancouver... it was the only time in my life I'd seen an intravenous drug user with a needle in his arm passed out in a bush. Right downtown. It was headtrippingly sad. And graphic. And just... right there. For the record, I live in Hamilton Ontario, you think I would have seen this before but you would be wrong.
lol damn man that's scary. I had to take transit once in that area, and I never went back to that part of town "downtown Eastside" people don't care about doing it in the open there.

Maybe getting lost in East Van a long long time ago trying to find a party, and ending up going to weird all night diner and meeting some really awesome people that knew where the party was and lead us there..speaking of East Van...maybe you do a video on Mount Pleasant? Haha we even have an ugly viaduct but ours goes partway into downtown and isn't so close to the water as yours was. Ours is getting torn down at some point too.
As a Vancouver expat living in Seattle I can say wholeheartedly the beaches here suck.

Ive been to Vancouver and I mostly went to UBC and the places around it. My favorite spot out of all of the tourist traps was Granville island, mostly cause of the food. Originally from Texas, my brother went to UBC and we avoided most of the tourist traps. I love the city and my favorite part is the seafood and asian food.
I was literally in Vancouver last week! Im from Ottawa, so it was great to see sort of a different culture almost, which was surprising. (I did 70% of the tourist stuff you said... 😁)

I have been to Vancouver before and loved your city. It's beautiful and clean. I rode the sky-train subway and was amazed at how clean it was.
I stayed downtown and spent an afternoon on Granville Island. I purchased some white raspberries in a market on the island. I had never had white raspberries before.
In total, I was there about four/five days. We went to Stanley Park, rode the river taxi hydro-boat across the river close to the Canada Place cruise terminal and ate at a river-front market type place. We also had lunch one day at Hamburger Mary's. Would love to return someday. I also met a gorgeous Norwegian while I was there.

I went to Vancouver this summer to visit my uncle and it's so weird seeing all these places I've seen before and its kind of weird to think that I may have been on at least one of the buses in the background!

In a good way this video made me cry because. Vancouver is my home but unfortunately I live in disgusting UK but everyone is rude and just like it’s not very nice but on the first opportunity I can I’m moving back I’ve literally been to all of these places but the last time I went there was a fire and I couldn’t go up the mountain even though we really wanted to we rode Mobies to Granville Island pretty much every day And my dad bought some disgusting chilies which we’ve not eaten yet you should’ve mentioned and the little islands off Vancouver because that’s where my sister got married and the boat ride is gorgeous but yeah thank you for making my day by making this video ☺️

I love that a Vancouver resident called it a knock off of the Space Needle. I thought the same thing when I visited it.
I was in Vancouver seven weeks ago & I stayed downtown in the outdated and over-priced Century Plaza. Sadly, my endearing memory of downtown Vancouver is the share number of homeless. Distressed mental patients. Druggies looking for their next fix. Tent encampments down every alley. Police turning a blind-eye to people shooting-up. Authorities uninterested in the welfare of fellow citizens in need. Street people who use the gutters as toilets. Note: I didn’t find Vancouver unsafe. But as a tourist it’s not a city I would recommend visiting. Advice: get off the plane and stay out to Victoria.
