Describes parts of Australia perfectly. You do know they going to release the movie classic Awake in Fright. Imagine how those backpackers felt? They were all overseas travellers doing their time on farms doing agricultural Labour. Imagine ending up in that place?
The weird water is actually mineral rich artesian water and is not particularly harmful. The cane industry has also cleaned up its water pollution woes somewhat over the last few decades. But still I wouldn't be swimming in or drinking out of the lower Burdekin any time soon. Even without the snappers.
To its credit the Burdekin area has only one traffic light and two or three stop signs making driving a breeze unlike Sydney. Free parking all day everywhere. Ayr and Home Hill both have a 50 metre swimming pool and the latter is heated in colder months. Both Woolworths and Coles have 100 metre wide stores but do not open on Sundays. Swimming for oldies costs from 2 dollars. There are four hardware stores, one KFC, Subway, Red Rooster and Maccas in Ayr. There is a golf course, an RSL club, and many schools. Southerners went north in the COVID era and for many of these reasons, stayed. Money from the sale of one apartment in Sydney proper can still buy around 8 in the Burdekin. The ratio of rental income to purchase price per annum is around 11 percent. on a 100,000 dollar unit as it can be rented for at least 220 per week. And two horse racecourses. there is one drive in theatre - one of the last in Australia still operating and many gyms. The hospital is well equipped with many beds and rapid service from doctors, but they also have a very large helicopter for transport to Townsville for critical cases plus chiropractors offices, a bowling alley, and several Asian restaurants and coffee shops. Their meat pies have a very high reputation. However, your article is very funny, and generally correct except for these slight corrections. Keep up the good work.
A triumph of a video, especially in terms of you going somewhere like Burdekin so I never have to (although abandoned buildings DO turn me on, for photography reasons). That was interesting and entertaining in equal measure. A great beginning, looking forward to seeing the channel grow and grow.
Rather be watching the sun rise and set in the peace and serenity of the Burdekin Delta catching BARRA, rather than being stuck in the traffic in those hell hole overpopulated cities down south any day!! 🐊🌴🌴🐊
Randomly came across the Bowen video and checked out your channel and to my surprise you did this video as your first one. Been in the Burdekin my whole life (Home Hill), and I can say most of it is pretty accurate. But to make a correction, the pet shop just moved to Ayr haha, as do a lot of shops tend to do, but to be fair there are more shops popping up lately so it's slowly growing back to what it once was.
As someone who has lived here nearly their whole life, you hit the nail on the head. Do not come here unless you like grass and drinking and fuck all else, because that's all there is 😂
I just came here from your Gold Coast video, moved to the GC 2 years ago but previously lived in the BDK for about 15 years. I remember all the shops in Home Hill actually having business in them but a lot of owners moved their business to Ayr and now many more locals just go to Townsville to get certain things. I don't really miss the place because it's just stinking hot most of the year lmao. Fun fact, Plantation Park was the old town dump back in the day and people to swim in that creek frequently 🤣
