My favorites are just any songs that Angelina sings. No lie, to me, Angelina's voice is my favorite. There is nothing less.
Since this is two years old, I'll keep this very short. She is, and continues to be, one of the most beautiful and talented singers I have ever heard.
AJ is the gift to get to the essence of the songwriters song and sing the song how it was envisaged by the writer, I don't think a singer has consistently done this before, and it makes it especially unusual because of her age.

I know you don't like to skip, but you really need to hear her new single, just released as a prelude to her new album. It's titled "Million Miles" (here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/NhKRh5ZtuWk/v-deo.html) and she wrote it has a testament to her grandfather's influence on her life. The lyrics are very appropriate for the times, with all the loss people have experienced from the pandemic. In an interview in American Songwriter, she says: “The song is really about everyone and reminding us that we are never alone because we as humans, our biggest fear as human beings are that we are very afraid of being alone or losing someone....When I was in the booth, while I was singing, my tears were running....To be honest, it was like a feeling of relief that all my feelings were written down and I felt relieved. “Million Miles” means a lot to me because it is relevant to these difficult times. I definitely want to share my love to everyone, and I hope that people can connect with it and relate to the story behind the song.” She's 14 now, and this is the first song from her new studio with Republic Records. She showcases both her songwriting ability (wonderfully touching lyrics) and her stunning voice. She's very pleased with the song, and it's the hottest thing being reacted to on YT. What is more important to who Angelina is as an artist than the chronology of songs she has slayed is the incredible fearless versatility and technical prowess across numerous genres and artists. I encourage you to jump around in time and genre to react to songs that might matter to you that she has covered (just as she chooses what to sing). What is more important than that is the emotional payload she can deliver to the unsuspecting listener. That skill is complimentary to but different from her pure vocal ability. React to her original songs "Shield" and "Million Miles" (as has been suggested) and her Adele cover "A Million Years Ago". And of course do "I Put a Spell on You" B&W version).
What I find interesting is in NGT 2014 their were 10 acts at the end and she got 46% of the votes.

I encourage you to react to Angelina’s new single that was dropped last week. The song is called “Million Miles.” Angelina wrote the song for her grandpa, who passed away in 2018. She also said that she intended the song to comfort all who have lost someone close to them. It is an incredibly powerful song, especially during these tough times. Angelina said she had tears streaming when she recorded it.

I just heard a song today that you might enjoy listening to. Her name is Sofie Fatu. She is 7 or 8 now. She has sung several songs on you tube. She was on America’s got Talent when she was five. The song is from the musical Hamilton. She’s cute and has lots of attitude.

"I put a spell on you" (black and white version), while not typical of Angelina, IS a masterpiece in every sense of the word. My realization that she was much more than just a kid who could sing and liked jazz was cemented with this performance, which is one of the best I have ever heard. An incredible tribute to a crazy artist that pulled the music from the circus-show original and made it beautiful; I would highly recommend watching the Screamin' Jay Hawkins original before you watch her version. It really, really helps you appreciate what she's doing.

I have heard many kids artists, many of which have great voices and good control... but this girl to me is just on a whole different level....I dont think I have ever heard a kid this age do what she does. She is singing blues and jazz phrasing ... moving in and out of time (on purpose) all the different things she does with her voice, staying on pitch , and just to add to the difficulty level, lets sing in a language second to our native language. Then we add the fact that she is already making songs her own, making conscious decisions to modify these songs, changing arrangements, and lyrics... This girl is on a level of ability, that many fully grown adults will never reach.. she is a phenom... When you watch the "I put a spell on you" video, there is a scene in the beginning where a man is looking at a piece of paper and smiling.. You cant make it out, but that paper is a note from Angelina to make changes in the arrangement of the song..
Like I said there are young kids that can belt out some songs, and do it very well, but they cant even come close to what this girl brings to the table They are mimicking the original artist. Angelina is recreating songs to fit her style of singing. Her musicianship is insane for her age.

I love all of AJ's covers, she gives all of them (arguably) greater emotion than was in the originals, but I think that her tributes carry a little extra weight. Natural Woman for Aretha, Wake Me Up for Avicii, Trampoline for Ari Behn and, of course, You Were Always On My Mind for her grandfather. Million Miles, is an extension of those previous tribute/covers. Have a box of tissues handy. The fastest I've seen a reactor break down while watching Million Miles is 45 seconds.
Josh I am thrilled that life has allowed you the opportunity to continue your journey through Angelina's career. There is a video of her rehearsing for this performance which shows how she is the boss in the room. Basically she sings the song a capella then works with the musicians to get their part the way she wants it. Angelina is a prodigy indeed.

At this young age Angelina also had an input into the musical arrangement- she didn't like the trumpet part so made sure that it was changed to support her own style. There is a short video clip - the musicians are discussing the arrangement, at first they appear to be ignoring her, but she soon got their attention, and took the lead. Later musicians would refer to her as the boss.
This performance shows that she knew exactly what she needed in order to blow us all away!

Seeing her sing in this Talent, one realizes that she has never had hesitations or fears, the only moment when she returned as a child is when they declared her winner with about 46% of the votes, that she let herself go with tears of emotion. ❤️ ❤️
She sang Summertime many more times and each subsequent version has a different flavor, but they are all incredible.
In this other version, 2 years later, she herself asked the orchestra to slow down the music and she applies modulations and bass tones in a different way. You are doing a beautiful job with this channel and I thank you for your genuine appreciation for Angelina. I noticed that in this rendition of Summertime, she repeats the first verse and omits the second. There is a later video where she includes it. If you can convince yourself to interrupt your order of songs for just one, it would be worthwhile to react to her new single from Republic Records, Million Miles. It is her own brilliant poetic way of offering comfort to all who have lost a loved one. It was written in memory of her grandfather, and so appropriate for these days.

That little moment you had there at 4:00 .... that happens to me over and over with Angelina. I listen to her daily, and I still get 'reminded' all the time just how unique she is. Even listening to her every day, her library is so massive that I can go a long time between hearing some songs... and then I hear them and am reminded of yet another facet to her talent that I had forgotten about. The thing you pointed out.... that little flavoring she put on that one word "don't"... there are so many hundreds of examples of those little things in her vocals... things that nobody else would think to do. So even as an avid Angelina listener, I still get blindsided by those little details sometimes.
As far as what to do next, I think you are going to get a lot of requests for her latest release "Million Miles" ;) ...but as you work through her stuff don't miss her later version of "summertime" performed with the Norwegian Orchestra (KORK). It's the same song, but it's good to see how she evolved with it.

Josh, how are you? Like Angelina's singing, you've created a style in reacting which is very unique. What's so amazing about a lot of the commentary you presented here was that you were describing the techniques of a 40 year old artist who knows all the tricks of the trade.

Josh, after I Put A Spell On You (which should be your next one)(it's her SOS song if you know what I mean) two favorites of mine are when she's 8 and singing outdoors in front of a few thousand people. Dinah Washington's What A Difference a Day Makes and then I'm Feelin' Good. I'll Be There is great. (She had a little cold but insisted she was all right to sing. She wanted to because it was a charitable event.) Josh, as wonderful as she is at 8, she shifts gears at 10 and steps it up a few notches. She actually becomes a true pro at 10. Her magnificence is unmistakable!

What about doing a comparison between a 7yr old and a 15yr old AJ doing the same song 'I'm A Fool To Want You'
Your comment about "channeling the original artist" or composer even is what I always go back to when I hear the up and coming superstarts that sing some of the iconic songs...like "The Show Must Go On." Angelina Jordan does it and she "channels" Freddy Mercury..which to me honors his memory. Dimash on the other hand sings it much the same way but then trails off into his own style to showcase his talents. I really don't like certain song's redone like that. Even songs that, say are a particular style...say, jazz. Diana Ankdidova sings "It's a Man's World" and it doesn't sound like rock or jazz. Angelina sings it and it is jazz/blues. Angelina sang a country western song and it was cute, she wore a country western outfit when she sang, country style it...it was from Miley Cyrus.."Nothing Breaks like a heart"
Going back to "The Show Must Go On" she wore black and made a mask to wear when she started the song....She wore black with another song that she sang where the artist died too young. I respect her because she understands music and respects that she is doing a "cover." She has done some original works as well. A Song for A, 4 songs that she wrote, *The newest being "A Million Miles" which is beautiful and one that she recorded but did not authorize to be released but was anyway "I'm Still Holding Out for You"
Angelina has a variety of styles and voices that go with whatever she has chosen to sing. Her versatility is astounding. She grew up doing covers of just about everybody and seemed to study everything that they did as singers and I even think that she listened to the backround music as well....Then she absorbed all of it and learned how to reproduced it. The voice and musical instrument influence on the performance.
There is a purity in her that is in her soul and heart and it is reflected in her voice and it reaches in your soul and heart. I read this over and over from people and I totally agree with it. She touches emotions....She doesn't need the special effects, the costumes, lighting,......some of her best songs were done in a basement or living room.... Just a song, mic and music and you will be mesmerized.

Like others, I highly recommend you "Million miles" which gave me the following message.
This song is an universal message, it is this characteristic which touches us all.
I think that this song worthy of being compared to The Little Prince of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
The presentation of Saint-Exupéry's work on Wikipedia says:
The story follows a young prince who visits various planets in space, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. Despite its style as a children's book, The Little Prince makes observations about life and human nature.
This song "Million Miles fly to the Moon of the little Princess" also meets this definition (sorry for this simple modification of the title and a reference to a classic of Angelina).
Upon encountering the narrator, the little prince asks him to draw a sheep. After three failed attempts at drawing a sheep, the frustrated narrator simply draws a box, claiming that the sheep the prince wants is inside the box. Again, to the narrator's surprise, the prince exclaims that this was exactly the drawing he wanted.
Angelina's poetic narration, lyrics, images and subtle music, this voice with a deep soul, draw not a sheep, but a heart which is a jewel box containing a bubble of humanity.

You need to check out this fabulous mashup of Angelina and her idol Billie Holiday singing I Am a Fool to Want You. Out of this world. Angie just released her 1st single from Republic record on 11-6-20 titled “Million Miles” by Angelina Jordan Astar ua-cam.com/video/NhKRh5ZtuWk/v-deo.html she wrote it at 12 shortly after her Gandpa died in 2018. She recorded this year at 14 here in 2020.
Did you notice her sing something off-mic at 6:49 in this reaction video (just after you said "Good control")? She is echoing an "ad lib" that Louis Armstrong did in his and Ella Fitzgerald's late-'50s recording of the song (from their _Porgy & Bess_ album - recorded in 1957, but relased in 1958). You can hear him do it at about 4:21 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/lnXLVTi_m_M/v-deo.html So, this makes it clear which particular recording Angelina was using as the basis for this performance (especially the musical arrangement). That allows you (anyone) to compare her vocals very closely to a specific "original" performance, not just a general "form that the song was written in". In line with what you were saying, although she is definitely following the general outlines of Ella's vocal arrangement, there are huge differences in how precisely she is singing that arrangement. In particular, her signature vibrato and the crazy amount of "resonance" (I'm not sure what to call it) she uses on the "ah" vowel sounds ("and your MA is good lookin'") is not at all like Ella sang the song (or any other song, AFAIK).
And speaking of arragements (someone probably has already pointed you to this, but…), you should check out this rehearsal Angelina did with the same trumpet player after winning the competition: ua-cam.com/video/BSm-oMgVCo8/v-deo.html (Some people think it's the rehearsal for this performance in the NGT finals, but her teeth make it clear that it was some months after.) The comments under the video contain translations of some of what is being said, but even without knowing what she's saying, you can see that she had very specific ideas about how the song should be played. (When you do read the translations in the comments, you find that at one point she even named the exact key she wanted part of the song played in: at 2:16 she says "Ais", meaning "A-sharp". Unfortunately, through a lot of the video the musicians don't seem to be paying much attention to her.)
