- I spoke about Frank in this installment of ScienSonic's Sound-of-the-Month Club video series from a few months ago, in which I play his unusual bass flute. These videos, posted each month, are for our ScienSonic members... but in honor of Frank's birthday, January 4th, thought I would share this with everybody. Please consider becoming a member, if you haven't already: www.sciensonic....
Scott, as always, you have such wonderful humanity and musicianship. I love you. Cuz Jude in Portugal.
A beautiful video a beautiful instrumental masterfully played thank you for sharing
Yeah!, I used to hear you back when in NYC, I dig the spirit of your message.
very soulful inner resonant tone.
Amazing.
Very mellow and beautiful sound that bringing me in the mood walking in central park alone in march two years ago as a tourist from Denmark. Scott you are a outstanding woodwind
musician.Hope to hear you live some day in Denmark.
Thank you, I hope to be back there...
This man plays all brass instruments too! Wouldn't be suprised if he plays violin, cello etc. 🎶
Frank Wess was unique. You draw quite an intoxicating sound from the Rudall Carte bass flute too!
Much thanks for this video! It changed my opinion about bass flutes, bigger bore size is not always the better choice. This flute may have less dBs, but has the warm timbre of an alto flute… regards!
Archived at the Sound-of-the-Month Club is another video about my other bass flute, which can be held vertically and has a GIGANTIC bore... biggest I've ever seen. Quite a haunting sound, but the tuning is rough!
This style of bass flute is also shown being played by Herbie Mann on the cover of his "My Kinda Groove" album cover.
Aha... didn't know about that. Thank you.
