Gem, this video has been a real joy to watch! The joy you’ve had from unboxing these has given me joy! Zinc white is usually considered the mixing white in gouache so doesn’t have wonderful tinting strength because the W&N zinc white gouache is a wee bit like this one. The featured artist for the second box artwork speaks to my heart so much!!

Okay, I *HAVE* to have that Upcrate box! It's an alright box (I like the Rohrer & Klingner inks, have the glass pen on my wishlist as my first one came broken -- not really safe to use with a shattered handle) but I need the print & stickers because I'm a huge Sophie McPike fan. 😂 I'd say the RRP for the inks was for all three -- the 12 ml pipette bottles are ~3-4€ in stores.
Most surprising thing: BOTH boxes had good prompts!

Gouache Tip:
I had a gouache tube split just like yours not the same brand. But if it is aluminum tubing you can open the backside and take a long stick maybe the back of your paintbrush and give it a stir it’ll take a while to stir it and be careful with the aluminum while you’re stirring because you can cut yourself but it definitely worked for me it reconstituted the gouache. I just thought I would pop in and give you that tip for anyone who reads the comments and I had the same situation

I'm in the Scrawlrbox Facebook group and group chat, and ALL of us had the same issue with the white gouache splitting. We troubleshooted it together, tried massaging the tube, or even stirring the contents with a thin skewer, but only emptying it like you did worked. It's a real shame!
I had an enormous amount of fun with the pencils though, and the colour selection is so summery and uplifting, so that was great

I like the side by side unboxing. Kinda fun to compare and contrast the content. I think this time I have to hand it to upcrate! That one was really well curated and I absolutely LOVED the glass pen! I have one and am always amazed by how far one dip gets you! I do love the Inktense pencils and the colors are awesome but just not as exciting. Love the theme though!

Hullo Gem, I have not watched a video where the gouache from this Scrawlrbox worked correctly! I think Scrawlrbox was given a very bad batch of gouache tubes! I am a true fan of Derwent pencils and I have even purchased the inktense sets of blocks as well as their painting palettes they sell for a more painterly experience. Thank you for sharing both of these boxes with us.

Just catching up with this. I had the same Scrawlr box and had the same issue with the gouache (which I see from the comments was very common) - and it also has the zinc/titanium label. I've not tried fixing it - at least I know now how to do that - thank you. The inktense pencils are great (I have a small selection already but only the brown was a repeat colour). I'm looking forward to having a go with the prompt. Thank you for the unboxings - very interesting and useful.

I bought an upcrate mystery box and thought it would compare to the big box we had earlier because its about the same price. It consisted of about 3 previous boxes and a lot, and I mean A LOT of pens. There was no paper items in the box at all. I was a little bit dissapointed. Overall it was fine but I truely expected a paper itemnin there like watercolor paper of acrylic paint paper since there was acrylic paint and watercolors in there.
I just wanted to let you know, maybe something for a revieuw? It was called Mystery Art Supplies Mix worth 80€ #all

My tube of gouache was only split a more standard amount!

My gouache says Zinc White on the front and also Titanium White on the side of the tube, soooo..... not sure what went wrong there. But I haven't tested the paint, yet. Didn't have the time, tbh.I think I might actually own most of the Inktense pencils, too.I might not make it to the stream, though, because my boyfriend and I are going on a camping trip that evening... might already be at his place by then... not sure.
