Coil, to me, makes more sense as a Support character when you start thinking of him as a “Battle Buddy”. He is stronger in combat than the other Supports, but is weaker than Melees. The point is that he fights alongside the person he’s tethered to, making both of them stronger as a result.
Coil is the greatest battle buddy in regards to a decent melee like banhammer or sword, katana less so because speed doesnt work for Mb1 on katana, like imagine a 40% haste BH spinning toward you faster than you can run
yeah coil is very much a battle buddy type of support. his healing is just too slow for him to concistently jugle across the entire team for everyone to live. but he makes it up with the simple fact that he makes dam sure that whoever he's linked to will sandwich people and make some jumpings
a few synergies i can find: katana: giving him a jump boost can provide high ground for m1 chains, and a lot more potential for air stalling. sword and subspace: coil can comfortably fulfill medkit's healing priority with constant HoT. ban hammer: the best phighter speed coil can tether to. you can practically guarantee you cant escape from 120% spd ban on foot
I think Coil’s support is best described as a pocket battle support, where they fight alongside ppl who they are supporting but can only do so one at a time so will often focus all healing on one person
Tbh i think that speed coil is the best (for dmg), because: Step 1: Make the mother of all omeletes Coil, can't fret over every egg. Step 2: Ask Demo for his Claidmhor and Tide Turner. Step 3: Trimp across Upward to get to Vinestaff/Medkit. Step 4: STANDING HERE, I REALIZE, YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME, TRYING TO MAKE HISTORY, BUT WHO'S TO JUDGE, THE RIGHT FROM WRONG, WHEN OUR GUARD IS DOWN, I THINK WE'LL BOTH AGREE, THAT VIO,LENCE, BREEDS, VIO,LENCE, BUT IN THE END, IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY. And there you have it, the best Coil guide.
Coil is a pretty team dependent character, just like the engineer, if you're team isn't performing well, you won't either, if you're team is doing pretty well, you will help them win, hes a damage and a support character mashed into one person, and he can turn the tides of games if used right
one i like to use is engaging WITH regen. use his projectile to start damage, use speed to close gap, then use gravity to dish out as much damage as you can.
Tbh was really hoping Coil is more of a support since for a while now I've been hoping to be able to help my teammates while not being too weak when chased
The only thing I dislike about Coil is that his healing is TERRIBLE even at S. It’s annoying that he debuffs team healing if you have a second support (besides subspace) on the same team when he can barely keep the team alive himself

I love playing coil because I have special team play moments like when me and a medkit ganged up on a full health banhammer and beat him silly.

unfortunately as of when this video was uploaded the coil trimping was patched
so coil can no long travel at mach 3 in order to roll out
