Sidewinder 6 or 8 cylinder engines are a royal pain to remove the back spark plugs. I spent several hours working on my brothers 08 Equinox with the 3.4 6 cylinder engine. Removing the rear spark plug boots were very difficult. The plug wire broke off one of them and left the metal part attached to the top of the spark plug. Not much room to work on the back side of the engine. I wouldn't want to do that job on a regular basis. No wonder auto shops charge so much to change spark plugs on these types of engines. Your string trick is a great idea. Should help many with the dreaded torn boot situation. Thanks for sharing.

Up Date.. This method works very well.. When I pulled mine off, 4 out of 6 left the metal connector on the plug.. The front are easy to remove the connector.. The rear are difficult ..90 degree needle nose pliers are a must for the connectors on the firewall .. I took off the coil pack and coil bracket for the rear.. Take off the purge valve and the PVC hose.. Thanks Jessie. 2009 with 204,500..

Dude, you're a Genius. I'm gonna try this tomorrow. The three rear spark plug wires on my daughters car kicked my butt today.

Thank you for showing this tip. Was having a tough time trying to take off the rear spark plug boots on a 2007 Pontiac Torrent. Remembered your video, and it worked beautifully. Thanks again.

I'm glad I came across your video on UA-cam. I've always worked on cars all my life and I'm 65 now and facing the problem of the back spark plugs on my Oldsmobile right now so I'm going to give it a try and I'll get back with you and let you know if it works! Built my first motor and 1969 or 70 with the help of my boyfriend but I've been working on cars all my life and this seems pretty smart young man and I will let you know thank you

Thank you Jessie! I don't have much automotive experience but I tried your method of removing hard to get off spark plugs and it worked. Thank you for saving me a lot of frustration.

Jessie what an innovated way to get at those buggers! I'll modify it and use a Lark's head knot, a.k.a., a cow hitch. Thanks!

Broooo, you might've just saved me a bunch of money!! My friend and I were laughing because literally everything you just said in the video is what we just went through for the last 4 hours... 😂 We're even working on an Equinox just like you! All the boots were a huge pain, super stuck, and one of the back 3 wouldn't come off at all. After pulling and pulling, taking turns giving it all the strength we had, we eventually resorted to pliers. After a couple tries with those, we tore the boot in half just like your customer did, and now we're stuck in the same exact situation. I haven't yanked the wire itself yet, but now I see from your video that it won't even help since the boot will stay just attached. There is still enough boot sticking out on mine where I think I could get a good grip with a string, I'm definitely gunna give it a try tomorrow!!! Thank you thank you!! It feels like destiny that you made this video for me 😂 I'll report back tomorrow and letcha know how it goes!

I got it!! The thing was insaneeely stuck, even with the string I had a hell of a time. I couldn't have done it without this trick though, thank you so much!!

Worked amazingly!! I tried sooo many different angles but none of them helped me get that leverage like that rope. Took a bit of finesse to find the right wrap and make sure it was on the heat shield but yeah this allowed me to get all the rear ones off my 2001 buick lesabre

Jessie, thanks so much!!! Screw the mechanics boot puller!! You are wasting your money on this tool!!! I knew using a pair of pliers would be a bad idea, so, of course, I checked out UA-cam!!!!!
Thanks to Jessie, I was able to get those boots off with no problem. However, I happened to have some 4-foot zip ties, so I used them. Worked Great!!

Used it on my Dodge cargo van. No one likes working on van right. But using this tool makes a impossible job child's play. I think even a six year old could do it. With adult supervision of course. Its a tool you always have with you. Just a foot away.

This was a good one ,l m going to remember this one .l wonder it a zip tie would work this way too?I had some get stuck on the coil just yesterday ,and the boot came off but it broke the wire and then left the copper conector welded on to the electrode...I finally fishedout with a pair of cuticle clippers...all this can be avoided if you simply use silicone grease on the boots when you install new ones

OK THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME:
07 CHEVY 3.5 V6 rear OEM plug boots stuck and difficult to get to, 116k miles:
First unplugged ignition coils block, unbolted it's 4 10mm bolts and moved the block aside.
First twisted each boot by hand to break the rubber free from the plug porcelain.
UA-camd how to make a cinch knot in a rope. Used a sash cord, like 3 times heavier than a shoe lace.
Made a cinch knot, undid knot enough to place around desired plug wire, then retightened and slide down as much as possible around its rubber boot.
Rope pulled and tightened around boot and pulled by hand. The really tough ones, instead of my hands, I pulled with a large angled pliers on the rope and used a block of wood to increase/correct angle against ignition block mount.
    No boots damaged!
I wish the factory had used dielectric grease on them to start with.
FYI you can't use regular grease on boots, since the voltage is over 50, a normal grease will conduct the electricity and cause shorting.
    Thanks for the video idea.
    Take care.

sometimes you can disconnect the upper motor mounts and then take a come along and tilt the motor forward so you can get to those back side plugs easy.or put a jack under the motor and jack it up on the back side and make the whole motor tilt towards the nose of the car .There are some motors where you have to do this ,no other way to get to the back plugs
