CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Hamlet (Mel Gibson) kills Polonius (Ian Holm) in a blind rage during his speech with Gertrude (Glenn Close).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Franco Zeffirelli directs his third Shakespeare adaptation (after Romeo and Juliet and Otello) with this film version of the tragedy Hamlet. The titular prince of Denmark (Mel Gibson), returns home to his family's castle of Elsinore after years of attending school in Germany to find out his father has died and his uncle Claudius (Alan Bates) is the new king. To make matters worse, Claudius has married Hamlet's mother, Queen Gertrude (Glenn Close), whom he has unusually strong feelings for. Hamlet is visited by his father's ghost (Paul Scofield), who asks him to seek revenge for his murder. In order to find out who the real killer is, Hamlet stages a theatrical scene resembling his father's death. Claudius is upset by the production and leaves to arrange for Hamlet's murder. In the ensuing confusion, Hamlet accidentally kills Polonious (Ian Holm) instead of Claudius; Hamlet's lover, Ophelia (Helena Bonham Carter), goes mad and commits suicide; and eventually Hamlet and Claudius both meet their fate.

"Your husband's brother's wife" I love Shakespeare.
It's so snarky, it's amazing.
The Kung Fu Master of English grammar 🙌
Gertrude: Nay then, I'll set those to you that can speak.

HAHAHA 😂😂😂
He roars like a t-rex
I watched this scene in my lit class and everyone cracked up at that part.
polarzombies same
I love this yawp....it is a perfect show of anger mixed with frustration
@@GOP71
And a bit of going insane
LOL YEA
This scene gives me chills.. Mel Gibson and Glenn Close are brilliant.... They bring a level of depth, to this interpretation of Shakespeare's Masterpiece, that Trancends all others I have seen. Their portrayal is matchless.. and deserves an Oscar. Shakespeare would be proud....
An underrated adaptation. When I had checked the DVD out back in 1990s from my local Video Store, as much as it was Mission Impossible to get a hold of a Steven Seagal flick, the John Turturro doppelgänger manager had to LITERALLY grab a chamois to release a Milky Way dust from the DVD box. That haunting vision has never departed from me.
Son you have your father most offended.Mother you have my father most offended. haa haa!!!!
much, not most
0:27 When your mom takes away your 3Ds
So true lmao
Gibson taps into Hamlet's rage in this scene better than Branagh or even Olivier do. You have to be really unhinged to just stab through a tapestry on a whim, and Mel Gibson is nothing if not unhinged (in this scene and irl).
Perfect casting. Brilliant actor.
Haven’t seen Olivier’s but Branagh was extremely unhinged and filled with rage when he did this scene
He also didn’t do that weird animal like roar
Best Hamlet ever; the rest of it and the play scene are so great.
Only problem - Sir Ian Holm does NOT yell 'I am slain!' like Polonius does
Polonius does that
I missed that part too.
I've always thought Glenn Close was the best Gertrude in any film version here - a perfect performance of fear & shock at what Hamlet says & does.
Mine too!
'go, go you question with a wicked tongue' is the best-delivered line, i've seen, like, ever
I don't know what you three are talking about! This is one of the best productions of this scene. Mel Gibson plays Hamlet's insanity superbly.
Who else thinks that was the best portrayal of Polonius? Rip. Poor guy.
nope didn't yell I am slain
Farewell, dear Bilbo.
I love that when he finds out it’s polonius he actually feels sorry for him
"He has been kind of hard to deal with lately".
"Ophelia he stabbed your dad through a curtain".
-sassy gay friend
It had to be cut off because that's where the incest comes in.
"Are you playing at being mad?"
Who says I'm fuckin playing, mommy?
Oh... Look a sneaky spy in a court of snakes... Skewered.
"When ur a clowwwn, nobody takes you seriouslyyyyy"
I like the other scene where Hamlet throws a fit realizing how his father's ghost was right!
Jel ima neki program
"I hide behind curtains because I have a fear of being stabbed;"
OMG, best Hamlet ever! Saw this opening weekend and can't ever forget about it.
Mel Gibson is Amazing!
Glenn is the best actress of the world
0:28 you messed up big time, Gertrude...
Hamlet expresses no remorse after he kills Polonius. After Hamlet stabs Polonius Hamlet asks if it is the king, and then he turns around, and almost in the same breath, lectures his mother on how to behave. Hamlet's conscience has become twisted. He thinks he is justified in doing anything to avenge his father's death. As it becomes apparent in later scenes, Hamlet's conscience is telling him he is not being violent enough. The closest he comes to expressing remorse over the death of Polonius is when Hamlet says "Of this lord I do repent", as if that can absolve him of guilt. He says it in an offhand way, almost as an afterthought. Hamlet knows there will be heavy repercussions for his murder of Polonius, but to Hamlet that is just court politics.
That scream though
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
0:28. At least he didn't go all Riggs on her. lol

yo someone got an mp3 download of that scream?
This goes to show why you should never stalk anyone: if you're found, you're dead literally.
You are not wrong.
Gibson in amazing as Hamlet!
Im really shocked how Mel Gibson was not even nominated for the Oscars for his role. He portrayed it amazingly. Glenn Close also should have at least gotten nominated for her supporting role.
Yes, definitely the most underated film and performance of Mel gibson!
Mel Gibson was dramatic as an actor and very integral As a director.
Nice job,Mel🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
I used to think Gibson was channeling Martin Riggs with the scream; but I’m guessing it was really a part of himself.
This is a wonderful rendition!
I love this movie)
The absolute greasest rendition of Hamlet, ever!
Best Hamlet, EVER!
If only he had taken the trouble to pull back the curtain before stabbing, none of the other characters would have died. 😓
Now that’s a lion king I see there 🦁
Wow the acting!!
At 1:13 Polonius should have been bleeding! How could Hamlet stab Polonius to death and not extract blood from his body? It's clearly not possible! >:(
+Alex T Generally in movies, especially ones with a wide audience, they do not show any blood. It is for sensitive viewers and for not having something distracting from the plot or dialogue. They generally only show a little bit of blood just to indicate the place of the stabbing or shooting, but none more than that. Why do you think Kokuom has no blood when he is shot in Pocahontas, not even when he falls into water?
+al43811 But still, Hamlet stabbing Polonius was pretty epic.
@@supermushroomDX If you keep watching (not in this clip though) you do see a pool of blood, he stabbed him lower down so you don't see it in this frame.
Branagh's version is awful. I realize that most critics loved it when it was released but I, and most people I know, find it hard to get through the film without bursting into laughter. It's so amazingly over-the-top that it's beyond comical (matrix rapier anyone?) It's a shame since I really liked Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing.
I know this is a late response, but you are so right on the money. His Henry V was far superior.
David Beier Ironic you say that. I can't stop laughing at Gibson's war cry at 0:26 xD
Glenn Close perfetta cattiva del cinema qui è una Geltrude ottima
0:28 RUUCHHHH!!!!
Мне понравилась эта версия Гамлета.она отличается от многих.
lovely !♥ Mel
Genial escena :D
"Polonius?! What are you doing back there?"

Does anyone know what act and scene is this?
Act 3, scene 4.
there is some great acting in here ,but Mel Gibson screaming in the beginning when hamlet mother is trying to leaving is not good but other then that well done

Agreed. Some of the scenes are just awkward to watch.
Like how this ends before the rape scene
