For the Christian Church, the decisive historical event is the resurrection of Jesus. Mark tells the story from the perspective of a few women, and the original ending of his gospel is surprising: they flee in fear. This ending contains an invitation and an appeal: join in the proclamation of the gospel and fear not for what you will encounter, God will be with you, His Spirit will overcome your fear.
