I've done something similar to this using Uno cards. I have them answer questions from the "ungame" (any questions work) when they use specialty cards (skip, reverse, etc.) I also add rules like, if you play a 5 "give everyone a high 5," if you play a 7 "you have to be quiet until someone else plays a 7 or until you play your next card." The high5 rule has been amazing in creating touch for families who have hostility. It's amazing how willing they are to "safe" touch for the sake of the game.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. Yes, I agree with your suggestion, better to ask about their highlight during the duration of therapy.

This video is super insightful and offers a fresh perspective on family therapy! I’ve always thought that traditional therapy sessions can feel pretty rigid, but using a game like this seems like a great way to open up communication. However, I wonder if some families might find it too casual or even dismissive of more serious issues they face. What do you all think?

Liana, as a family therapy student I really enjoyed this approach, I think it's a great way to open communication and create a fun atmosphere as you suggested. I also like how this can be personalized depending on the therapist, as well as the family. My one thought - In one question you asked them what their highlight moment was in therapy. Don't you think it should be the highlight during the duration of counseling, but not necessarily in the office as the question suggests? Thx for sharing!

How would one use this game for families that have dealt with child abuse and neglect?

This is an excellent game to use in an opening session with families! The technique can be found in "Creative Family Therapy Techniques: Play, Art, and Expressive Activities to Engage Children in Family Sessions!"

I have some worries about in what way younger children can paticipate in this game, isn't the questions to difficult for them to answer? :)

This activity is geared to families with children aged 7-16. The question cards can (and should be) modified to suit the needs of the family.
