Little amendment.... The whine is named after the city, not the other way around... The wine in Portuguese is called "Vinho do Porto", which translates to "wine of/from Porto".
We actually don't smoke a lot. The reason you see so many people smoking in the street is because they're no longer allowed to do it anywhere else outside their homes. Even restaurants and cafés - which are private properties - have been prohibit or heavily restricted from allowing smokers.
Im from Porto and Portugal was named after Portucale that is actually the name of the city of Porto in 1100 to 1200 and the Porto wine is named after the City of Porto.
there's a reason why we use so many eggs in pastry, the egg white was used for many things like ironing the expensive clothes of the nobles and with the surplus of sugar from the maritime trade they tried to use the egg yolk in order to not waste anything, the result is the sweets we have since then
At min 9:20 I have to correct her on Gaia side of the river Douro there are a lot of Wine cellars and warehouses not vinyards or wine factories... theres no such thing as wine factories... Shes excused cause shes so cute and friendly :)
I honestly don't know how I end up here, watching this but the last part of the video gave me this warm and nice vibes. I am Portuguese, currently living in the UK and this video recognizes my country, a great country. Thank you for sharing your experience with the world and congratz on your Portuguese, it is good to see someone using saudade and knowing what it means.
Hi, thank you for your video. Just one correction. the name of Porto comes from Roman "Portus Cale" and actually the wine gets the name from the city. And even the Country name Portugal comes from Portus Cale. :) Wish you the best and that you come back soon.
We love you to friend. You are always welcome here. I dont know you, but you know how we feel about people that talks like you do about us. Kisses portugal loves you
Wow, would love to hear her speak Portuguese, cause from the few words she said, she has the best pronunciation and accent I've ever heard from a foreign
It’s beautiful the way she feels about Portugal and Portuguese people. I agree with her , I have traveled to different country and work in different country as well but I miss Portugal and everything with it. She must go back to Portugal and live over there, for shore she would be very happy without a complicated life. Carinho muito obrigado por os sentimentos tão bonitos que sentes por Portugal. Procura a tua felicidade, a nossa casa é donde o nosso coração encontra a felicidade. Se está em Portugal; vai para Portugal 🇵🇹🥰 um abraço 😘😘❤️
As someone who is learning Portuguese and looks for information on Portugal, this is one of the best descriptions I have found, anywhere! Thank you for this! The recall of your experience is truly more appreciated than I can say.
"Pastel de Nata" is basically custard on a flour base. And I eat them WITHOUT cinnamom. Watch for the calories though 😂. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pastel_de_nata
Im glad u enjoyed Portugal!! I lived in Leiria for 30 years and I kinda miss it but usually I go back twice a year! Now I’m in cold Toronto, life is so different here.
I just love the fact that no one, and I mean NO ONE, noticed that the Portuguese flag in the beginning of this video is backwards... the correct would be with the green on the left side and the red on the right side...
Im very happy you enjoyed Portugal. I will come back to my parents country soon (i live in Japan now and i am born in France). I have "Saudade" of Portugal! And please... Go to Madeira it's a wonderful island!
Porto was not named after the wine. Actually Portugal was named after Porto, a very very old city. Then years later the wine that is not made in Porto but in the Douro Valley (Douro=river).
Hi! It was wonderful, for me to hear such beautiful, nice, warm opinions about my country. I guess I will not be able to thank you enough, specially for the "carinho" you mencioned them. Not many years ago, we were considered a province of Spain, and Portuguese were those poor guys who down there in Europe. I´m so glad tings are changing. Didn´t you go to Azores? if you didn't don't miss it when you can. By the way, I congratulate yoy for taking 3 days to understand Madeira people. I take at least a week... Thank you so muchfor everything you said. Beijinhos,
You made a great video with an almost complete summary of Portugal and Portuguese people. I moved to Portugal, from Brazil, more than 30 years ago and I feel that my love for Portugal is still increasing :-) I live in Estoril, near Lisbon, which is warmer and has much less rain than Porto. In the summer it hardly rains. However, both cities are beautiful, although different. Teu português é muito bom; muito doce, demonstrando um real amor por Portugal.
the reason why people love portuguese bread comes from the ammount of salt that we put on it, which is above average. Also, consciously or not, the bread is the point of reference for how salty the other food is.
Um óptimo princípio para se poder falar sobre um país tão antigo como Portugal e com tanta história, será encontrar diferença e semelhanças e apresentá-las enquanto tal e não algo que pode servir a qualquer outro país
How lovely.. As the son of Portuguese migrants in the UK and a loyal subject to her gracious majesty Elizabeth II, this beautiful young lady could not have best described the Portuguese way of life, it's traditions and culture. Well done, I've learned a lot.
I live in Leiria, it's a very peaceful town, with good restaurants, a beautiful castle, and a nice river crossing the center. But that's it, nothing much going in this town. BTW I've never seen her during the six months she spend here. Still don't know what the mission was
Actually there's a ferryboat to Canarias that stops in Madeira on the way, so if you are affraid to fly don't let that be na obstacle to get to know such beautifull Island.
@Lifey Loved the way you spoke about Portugal, thank you for your kind words, just a side note, that dance in Madeira isn't actually it's own dance, i think you talking about Rancho and it's a very Portuguese thing, but it's not seen that much in the big cities, however it's very much alive everywhere else. I leave you here a link to one Rancho Festival from Arouca in Portugal (near my town) ua-cam.com/video/g8M5BJDVApo/v-deo.html
The city was founded in 1123, vinho do porto started to be exported in the 16th 17th century mainly to England and some provinces in France and The Netherlands However, in the 6th century the romans used the fields around the river to make wine, and during the 13th and 14th century, in order to get money to expand it's walls, called the Fernandina (named after King Fernando) Porto started to produce wine in those same vineyards, mainly white and red wine The wine was so good that english merchants started buying a lot of it and taking it back to England, but since the voyage took so long, the wine would go bad Brandy was mixed with the wine so it would preserve better, and vinho do Porto was born
My dear, we have the best fish in the Wolrd. Because our sea coast it's not polluted yet...Our bread is delicious because our water is pure without pollution. Welcome.
Cool! Next time, go a little bit further to the south. I'm in it right now and people are begging for rain.... Just in 2019, we had 312 days of sun. ... I hope you'll come back soon! 😉
As a Portuguese never knew that bread here was that good. For me it's fine, that makes me think the stuff I take for granted.
Portuguese people understand Spanish people way better than they understand us...
3:00 i loved the fact that she remembered the portuguese word but forgot the english one for a second.
Little amendment.... The whine is named after the city, not the other way around... The wine in Portuguese is called "Vinho do Porto", which translates to "wine of/from Porto".
Passei para desejar a todos os Portugueses e amigos estrangeiros, um óptimo dia!
Wishing all Portuguese and friend foreigners, a wonderful day!
Obrigada igualmente!

Soo she obviosly didm't go to Azores if she thinks the Madeira's accent is hard to understand 😂😂
I love when people have great memories in our country, i feel so proud to be portuguese
*portugueses entram no chat*
You can tell by her smile while telling her favorite memories that Portugal will forever have a place in her heart.
We're straight forward and we roast everyone but it's all love
*it's not an European thing to kiss. Mostly just Portugal, Spain and France.
Portuguese can speak and understand spanish not the opposite. This is my life experience.
I would say the kissing thing is more a Southern European thing. Like Portuguese, spanish, italian and french.
The way she said "leiria" was so gooooooood
I wanna go to Portugal so badly ever since I learned about our lady of Fatima. If you’re never heard of that you should look it up :)
you have to go there, it's an amazing experience, especially either May 13th or alternatively October 13th... but yes May 13th is huge!!!
she actually speaks our language pretty well
there's a reason why we use so many eggs in pastry, the egg white was used for many things like ironing the expensive clothes of the nobles and with the surplus of sugar from the maritime trade they tried to use the egg yolk in order to not waste anything, the result is the sweets we have since then
I’m Portuguese but live in America and miss Portugal. Lovely people, food and weather

I'm Portuguese (from Porto) and I'm really glad you liked Porto! Thank you so much for choosing our country and for embracing our culture.
I live in Los Angeles, and I'm from Leiria.

The wine is called after the city, Not the other way arround.
The only think that she said wrong was that our summers are normally around 75ºF 80ºF degrees when it normally is 95º
Muito obrigada por falar tão bem do meu pais Portugal e um paraíso num cantinho da terra um abraço de Portugal
Porto isn't named after Porto wine, it's the opposite
It’s beautiful the way she feels about Portugal and Portuguese people.

thats not fair, of course everyone's nice to her, she's the sweetest thing ever, I'm in love just by watching this
One more to know what's "saudade" 😁

Im glad u enjoyed Portugal!! I lived in Leiria for 30 years and I kinda miss it but usually I go back twice a year!
Now I’m in cold Toronto, life is so different here.
O man!! I learned to speak Brazilian Portuguese and when I speak to people from Portugal it's like a whole different language to me.
My mother was fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, Sicilian and English. Como se va is the same for French, as well.
I'm most impressed with her Portuguese pronunciation! Muito bom!
Porto was not named after the wine. Actually Portugal was named after Porto, a very very old city. Then years later the wine that is not made in Porto but in the Douro Valley (Douro=river).
Wow she's gorgeous, i'm glad you enjoyed Portugal.
I used to live in Leiria and the gelatto from 'Fior di Latte', is really amazing!
Thank you for visiting us and for talking so good about our country!
Hearing her talk about stuff in here that I just thought it was the same in every country it's so confusing😂
Proud of my country 🇵🇹❤️
Leiriaaaaa!!!! Love from Portugal
That was very good Portuguese I would say, very well spoken!
I'm proud to be Portuguese. I live in the UK at the moment but I can't wait to be back in this gorgeous and brilliant country ❤

This is a very accurate, generally speaking, depicture of Portuguese. Bravo!
Actually there's a ferryboat to Canarias that stops in Madeira on the way, so if you are affraid to fly don't let that be na obstacle to get to know such beautifull Island.

Portuguese people are very friendly and always love to help .

...
I hope you'll come back soon! 😉
Her pronunciation of Leiria is very nice.
