    Beautiful, very beautiful.
    I was 17 years old when this was my first vehicle, I bought it for $1000 in 1978 from my Dad's U.S. Marine buddy that was getting a divorce and was heading overseas. I loved her, she was in mint condition. I ended up selling her to my Dad a few years later when I joined The Navy.
    He kept her for many years, it broke my heart when he told me that he sold her.

    Dear God, why can't they make cars this great looking again? The 60's T birds were just plain gorgeous cars.
    No comparison to the lozenge shaped crap coming from auto makers now. Who are the total morons that gave this a thumbs down? I'd bet they're dweebs with low level ricers.

  • @tompastian3447
    @tompastian3447 2 роки тому

    You've really made some nice changes. Like the solid turquoise without the vinyl top. Love how you swapped the 65 tail lights for 66, very tasteful. Great move going to LEDs. I've done that with the rear lights, brake lights and dash board lights on my 77 Cougar wagon. The LED's save your brake light switch from burning up, and head light switch too, which really helps when you've got all those incandescent bulbs in the rear. They also brighten up your dash board if you get the higher intensity LED's. Like the gagues and the shifter. Not sure about the custom steering wheel, since these old cars had some pretty impressive steering wheels.
    Congrats on 4 years of great work. That 66 interior is pretty impressive. I remember that very cool option on T birds with the swivel out front seat. Do you have that?

    • @tompastian3447
      @tompastian3447 2 роки тому

      FYI, Gearld Lloyd Kookson (Kookie) of 77 Sunset Strip had a mid 60's red T bird that was made for him. It toured various Ford showrooms in the early sixties. Someone fitted it with two 427 engines. I'd love to know if there are any photos of that car in any old car magazines, or if it appeared on the show ? I don't think there were any reruns of the show.

    I never did like the factory steering wheels in the '64-'66 bird, but I like the wheel you installed. Further, I always like the '65 bird body (grille/bumper front end, scoop hood and side front fender trim) more than the '66 bird. But I liked the '66 tail lights and interior over the '65. You incorporated, IMO, the best of both, plus added many nice convenience and well integrated touches and features. You damn straight that's a nice car! Your year car is getting close to the last of the good chrome, polished stainless steel, and die cast consoles, etc. -- far better than the cheap plastic chrome crap and anodized aluminum junk today.

    Beautiful job with your custom restomod! But it perplexes me why you restored an already original beautiful car over a 4 year period. That's usually reserved for restorable rust buckets that have sat outside for years that (at best) "ran when parked." I hope you saved the original '65 taillights and steering wheel for the next owner. BTW, I owned a maroon/white colored '65 briefly in 1976. I only paid $650. It looked nice but it did not run well.

    • @65Bogie
      @65Bogie  5 років тому

      Hi Mark it's pretty easy to do . For the front blinkers use Amber LEDs and hook up a resistor to each one of them and you can tap in the top fender blinker indicators to each one of the blinkers. For the rear blinkers use red LEDs and you will not need a resistor for them they work on that motor that's in the trunk not by a flasher and for all the rest of the LED lights in the car just put them in that's it . As for the wood grain I got mine from Metro restyling 3M DI-NOC Bubinga Gloss Wood grain Vinyl you can go online and watch a few videos on using this stuff, easy to do . Thanks for liking my car

    • @mescko
      @mescko Рік тому

      @@ihave35cents95 Depends on who you ask. In Europe offset was always the measuring method used, in the USA when this 'Bird was made they used backspacing. Offset measures the position of the mounting flange relative to wheel centerline, backspace measures from the inside lip of the wheel to the flange. They are related, you can convert one to the other.

      I've been driving Ford since I was 16 when they were $45 (In 1964) for a good one ,so I do know about them jumping out of gear. When I bought this Thunderbird I rebuilt the steering column the same time I rebuilt the rest of the car, a few well-placed notches with a Dremel tool to the Shift lever detent solves the problem. When I upgraded my Thunderbird to a console shift I used a Dremel on it also. Console shift should have been standard on all Thunderbird.
