Great video. The solar continuum filter is definitely a game changer so I’d highly recommend it. I go the extra mile with a uv/ir filter in the train too as it seems to just give it a little boost. Looking forward to your Solarquest video

Thanks so much, Nic! Baader is in the post and will be here on Tuesday! Yay! Didn't know you were on UA-cam too! :)

Nice timely video👍I normally image deep sky stuff but I've been thinking about getting into solar imaging for a while now. Also nice to see another imager in Scotland🙂

Cheers, Pete! Nice to 'meet' you too, mate! Thanks for tuning in...yes, need something to do when the light nights come in! LoL!

Looks like a great setup and produced a super image. Will be interested to see what the Baader filter does.

Thanks for the first impressions video, this is very helpful for me as i'm thinking about expanding my astrophotography to include solar imaging as well.
Quick question: i understand that there is white light filters as well as hydrogen filters when it comes to solar imaging. Can a hydrogen filter be coupled with this wedge or would the setup need to be different?

Thanks so much for tuning in, Pavle! Glad it was helpful good luck with your Solar imaging adventures! In regards to your hydrogen alpha + wedge question, unfortunately you can't use them together as they filter the light/emissions in different ways. :( I use a Daystar Quark for my Hydrogen Alpha imaging, but its not a cheap piece of kit. If you're just getting into though, you might want to consider one of the Coronado PST telescopes or a Daystar Solar Scout, which are smaller and more affordable Hydrogen Alpha scopes? Depends on your budget and what scope(s) you're using at the moment...I chose the Quark as I can swap it in and out of different telescopes. Similar idea with the Lunt Wedge in my video...I like the fact that you can have flexibility with both of them.
Hope that helps, but if you have any other questions, just let me know and I'll do my best to help! :)

❓QUESTION OF THE DAY: What's your dream Solar set-up? Let me know in the comments below!

That would be a combination of several systems for observing the sun at different wavelengths simulateously: white light with a color camera and with a monochrome camera, H-alpha, calcium K. Not sure about sodium D. Nice addition: white light and monochrome camera, but with Baader Solar Continuum Filter. Cameras with at least 30 fps and good resolution. And then a visual combination with two larger refractors, one with solar wedge, one with H-alpha filter. The cameras could stream to the internet, the visual setups will only be useful until the floaters in my eyes become to annoying.

I own a Edge800HD with a .7 reducer I would like to get into solar imaging. I own a ZWO 2600mc pro, 585MC and a 174Mini for OAG. all stacked on a EQ 6. what solar filter would you recommend and also would you put a Alpha filter in the light train for the color camera's??

I am a DSO guy but am very interested in having a solar rig. You mentioned you are imaging in white light and I noticed you are not using color filters. Could you share with us how you processed the image, the software you use and the steps you take in post? Great video thanks for sharing.

Hi mate, thanks so much for tuning in! For add ing colour to my images, I usually use either Pixinsight or Photoshop. I covert the image to RGB and then perform a few Curve adjustments in the separate R, G & B Channels until I get a hue that I like. I'll be doing a more in-depth processing tutorial on this soon, so stay tuned! :)
