Quicker reads, quicker release and better arm. Time will tell vs a real defense. Curious why with a 3 receiver set that we often send them all to the play side vs spreading the defenders
Mertz would be fine for this system because he wants to be a run heavy move the chains offense! Problem is the oline is not good for this offense! Having the ability to move the pocket with a stronger arm should make the this offensive line look better than it really is! Much like when Richardson was qb! The plus side I think lagway has more touch on the ball than Richardson
@@Bengators34 All of the motion/fakes/options in Napiers system are useless when the defense doesn’t honor the QB keeping the ball and running. Look at the rushing stats from 2022 to 2023, there was a drop off because defenders could focus on the RB and ignore the QB with Mertz back there. Maybe if Mertz could throw a deep ball it would be different. As it stands though, defenses don’t have to worry about that, or him running, so it makes it easy to shut down the running game and quick pass game.
@@Freshy_Jones Jaden Rashada was the original plan. When that didn't happen, Napier wanted Grayson McCall as a transfer for 2023, but McCall didn't qualify academically to transfer. The 2023 QB transfer class didn't have a ton of options, and a rebuilding team coming off a 6-7 season doesn't have the pick of the litter. Mertz was the most experienced option available. Mertz has always been a bridge QB, but fans aren't very patient and expect Napier to win with him despite not being a great fit. Its like some of you don't even follow recruiting but yap anyway..
He might be Billy's hope, but Billy's done. He has to quit calling plays, and bring in a successful OC. He needs to fire Roberts and Armstrong on D, and fire Sale and get a real O-line coach. But he won't make these moves; he's done
Agree with most DJL is CBN key to hope for the future, while GM has played better than he did vs Miami. Was the UM game the anomaly? I believe you better have 2 qb ready during this era, it only takes one hit and season is done. With the clock rules in place, getting more than 65 plays in a game offensively is what has to be planned for. With that in mind, and knowing CBN will use 2 qbs going forward….MJ gets 20-25 carries, doesn’t matter who hands him the ball. That leaves 35-40. The receiving corps looked strong: badger, Wilson, dike, mizell, and tight ends all got touches. If the other rbs get 5-10 touches, that leaves 30-35 for receivers….who throws those passes? Situational decision making…? I would think Mertz is far better equipped to make educated decisions vs SEC defenses today. Mike Elko is not going to allow DJL sit and throw deep. Expect to see Bear fronts, and pressure Ala Miami and Kentucky. Hopefully we will answers to those situations going forward. If I were head coach DJL would play every other possession until halftime then the guy who appears to have the advantage gets the nod in 2nd half…or create unique packages for DJL in red zone and plug him in there….and 3rd down and medium or shorter…..he provides more challenges for defenses in those situations than on 1st or 2nd down. Great problem to have since a & m and Kentucky qbs are struggling…go Gators
If you give Lagway 15 plays next week then you gotta give him the 1st team reps during the weeks plan for A&M a the start. 15 Offensive plays will throw Mertz off his rhythm. Go with Lagz…
It’s clear DJ is and should be QB1. But he can’t start next week. Mertz has to start and show us he’s not the guy and lose the job. If you start DJ and he starts off bad, has a major turnover, and you pull him and put Mertz in. Then the hop potato of QBs begins
Yall know West Georgia beat Samford last week and scored 38 lol. Both lines and play calling is trash! Napier better enjoy this win becuase i believe it's the only win this season! We just basically played a high school team and only had one 3 and out. Lagway has talent but the coaching staff has no idea how to utilize such talent.
Each QB gets a series and whichever one is the most impressive stays in the game
He plays like these boys played in high-school. Throwing players open, which sparks better play all round he brings energy that Mertz doesn't

I think we have a Kelly Bryant/Trevor Lawerence situation going on here.
That’s the last win in the billy skinhead same 6 plays taggert 🐊 career.
It’s obvious that Mertz is not right for this system. No deep ball, no running ability. Napier finally has his QB in Lagway, let him work with him.

So why even recruit him in the first place? Napier was dumb for that.
@@Bengators34stfu dude Mertz holds the ball and doesn’t escape well that would make any o line look bad.

Florida was missing 15 players due to injuries, and played a lot of rookies., so….🤷🏻
