One of the things I appreciate about Pokémon Arceus was that trade evolutions was optional. They made an item that allows you to evolve your Graveler, Hunter, Machoke, etc.

The reason I personally like the "cold-catching" of Arceus is honestly because I don't like having to go through tons and tons of battles. It just drains my party's health, and requires there to always be a rest area nearby that you go back to over and over. So being able to avoid or minimize fights by catching or attacking pokemon from behind is a huge time saver.

Really well put, totally agree with this. It may not be necessary for the stealth catching mechanics to return, but Legends seemingly had a design philosophy of respecting the player's time throughout the entire game, whether it was the ability to change moves on the fly or catching like 5 pokemon in quick succession without going through a battle menu. As much as I love the dodge roll mechanic of Legends, I really doubt they're going to bring it back for Gen 9. Legends' whole plot was focused around the idea that "Pokemon are horrifying monsters and can seriously hurt you if you aren't careful", so they needed to have a system that really showcased that. In the modern day setting of these games, people aren't scared of Pokemon or treat them as dangerous monsters, so I don't think there's going to be a need for it. I could be wrong and they keep it in there for you to roll stealthily into grass, but I don't think there will be the intense boss battles where you need to roll to survive like in Legends

    • @annedrieck7316

the "cold catch" mechanic plays on this too. by making avoiding battle not just an option but often desirable (since there is a lot of risk to encountering pokémon in arceus), it makes you hide in the grass and sneak around a lot, really giving you the sense of fear of pokémon that the characters are meant to have. thematically it makes sense, the gameplay mechanics seem to be broadly built around trying to get this sense across, and i think i would be fine not having them in future games since as you say, people have come to feel safe around pokémon

(I'm not sure if it was just a cosmetic feature or it actually upped friendship, but) I'm so hoping it returns as an actual mechanic to help up friendship with your team. It was too cute seeing my team talk to each other and have their own conversations and it made them feel more alive and more like my Pokemon rather than some bits of code I picked up off the side of the road. Now if only we could finally get a proper following feature and be able to ride our own Pokemon HM or otherwise because I am so tired of locked in ride pokemon. Choosing to evolve a Pokemon - in Legends, it was such an improvement to deliberately choose when to evolve (when criteria is met, i.e. level) versus your Pokemon bugging you to evolve every time they level up or give them an everstone to hold
Not Needing to Trade to Evolve - I feel like having some Pokemon only evolve when traded is a bit archaic and seemed like a novelty with earlier generations, but just having a item to evolve them was SOOOOOO much better. I wouldn't mind if it took more effort to get items to evolve and trading them would be a shortcut. PLENTY of things to be wary of:
    - still hate the dual releases, so unnecessary in the modern gaming hellscape
    - they need to be clear about the Dex, no lies & be honest about it
    - allow EXP Share to be toggled per individual Pokemon
    - allow tutorial skipping
    - hopefully a good story with no condescending writing or intrusive dialogue
    - have higher level Pokemon be catchable with obedience to balance
    - integrate the moves & evolution systems from Legends Arceus
    - make affection optional again, mandatory affection is game breaking
    - make battles snappier, no constant updates on weather/status/affection/etc
    - good framerate & optimization overall
    - include good post-game content
    - break conventions, we don't need Team Villain or legendaries in stories, mix it up
Other than all these concerns, I'm cautiously optimistic about Gen 9.

You might want too cut at least half of that down by half. If they succeed with most of that half with SV then you can bring the other points back for the next Pokemon games. 😂😂😂😂😂

Screw it, might as well give my stupid opinions, discussion is fun:
-dual releases are a pretty cool part of the franchise. It adds a nice bit of personality to the games by making trading mandatory to complete the pokedex. Version exclusives are great because they are so easy to trade for online, (on the gts that is. It was practicly made for trading versions exclusives.) Trade evolutions are iffy online because people can just leave with your pokemon without trading back, (which was thankfully solved with the linking cable in PLA) but trading version exclusives is easy because both people just want the other version exclusives and don't want to trad back. Also, they never really encourage you to buy both games. The only people that really buy both games are the hard-core pokemon fans and youtubers and such, but they know they are wasting money on it and might even like it.
-Honestly have no idea what you mean there. They were pretty clear about the natdex not being in SS or in pretty much any new games anymore which sucks, but a get it. Unless you mean dex entries being consistent and less contradictory, but that is kind of neat as it shows that professors from different regions disagreeing about things. (Also it is just retconing mistakes, not really a mistake in and of itself).
-I think you just mean the old exp share item coming back which definitely is necessary. It should be able to be toggled off with the old exp share item coming back.
-YEP. I don't know skipping tutorials and other cutscenes/dialogue isn't already in the games.
-Story definitely needs to be better. The BW story was phenomenal and I hope they go back to something that good again. I get that they have the condescending writing for kids playing, but that's a stupid reason since kids just skip through the dialogue anyways.
-This is just a bad idea. Having obedience problems for pokemon you have caught yourself would be a nightmare and would just make people never want to catch them. Plus, it would be terrible for new players who think they have just caught a stronger pokemon, but be incredibly frustrated when it doesn't attack and they don't know why. I think what would be better is just better level balancing so wild pokemon are just higher level normally.
-moves and evos from PLA are great. It makes it easier to set up your pokemon how you want it.
-Yeah, affection bonuses should be able to be toggled off. They make battles too easy.
-Yeah, there should be an option to toggle a "pro-mode" or something that just streamlines the battle process and reduces clutter.
-Well obviously yeah, the games should run well.
-100% this. Post-games in more recent games have definitely been lacking in more recent games. PLA was great with Volo's twist at the end with Cynthia's team and Giratina, but outside of that battle, the post-game could have been better. They should have something like in BW where multiple towns were post-game or even the coveted God of all post-games, the delta episode of ORAS, but even something like one new route in SM is better, since in SS there was absolutely nothing. Post-game also needs to be filled out with stuff that isn't even story related like contests or the pokeathlon. They could have a true battle frontier or even just a tower with different modes reminiscent of battle frontier modes, instead of just basic battling like the battle tower in SS.
-I mean they kind of already do this stuff. SM didn't use gyms and SS didn't have an elite four. Those weren't good examples but shaking up the formula is great. Having something else than an evil team would be cool, but they would need to have something else fill its place besides just more random trainers. They should definitely keep the legendaries as part of the stories however. The story doesn't need to revolve around them, but they should still be in there so the story still involves pokemon.
In all, yeah, good suggestions. I don't think these are dealbreakers by any means, but they are generally some good improvements that would make the series much better.

    • @SupremeMarioGamer
      @SupremeMarioGamer 2 роки тому +4

@@andrewg.3281 Selling multiple versions of the same game to trick people into spending more so they don't miss out sounds like a scam Activision or Ubisoft would sink to, not Pokemon. Before the series included online features (started in Gen 4, 2006) it just made sense but now, saying it's for 'interactivity' sounds like something a PR rep would say if questioned about still doing it. Not to mention habitual/compulsive people who have legit issues with spending or collecting. It's a modern gaming scam, pure & simple.
Honesty with the Dex means not lying about cut Pokemon never returning thru DLC or updates, which they claimed for SwSh only to add them in updates anyway. Either they lied, changed their minds, took note of the backlash, or figured a programming trick, take your pick.
Obedience already works for overleveled traded Pokemon, & people can always breed them for a baby that will obey. Some challenge/fun could also be derived from using Pokemon that won't listen. It beats not even being able to catch them AT ALL.
EXP Share should be hybrid of old & new, allowing you to choose which individual Pokemon get experience or not (example: setting Pokemon 3, 4, & 6 to gain experience while turning it off for 2 & 5). This is what I meant, a best of both that allows everyone to level up their teams the way THEY want.

      @Frysbear 2 роки тому +4

It's very cool! I also really like it, but one thing that did bother me was that catching pokemon felt like a little less of an accomplishment than in the main generation games. Being able to just throw pokeballs at everything was fun, but it led to me having like 50 of the same pokemon.
I really hope they keep it, but I think it would be awesome if they balanced it somehow. So like for example... if they decrease the catch rate, so that cold-catching has a much lower chance of working. But you can still attempt a throw before challenging the pokemon in battle. And if they pull back on that mechanic, but keep it then they could also keep research tasks, but also just maker there be slightly less of them to accommodate for cold-catching being slightly more difficult.
There are probably other ways they can combine things too! I for sure hope they don't drop arceus mechanics entirely.

I feel not too much features should be carried over from L:A in general, because it is a very different type of game. I love the catching mechanic, but I can't imagine that being nearly as fun in a mainline Pokémon game where I only catch a handful of Pokémon during a main playthrough anyway, and I *really* do not want research tasks in a game that isn't focussed primarily around that, though that's just my opinion.

And I wholeheartedly disagree about Legends Arceus being difficult. I found it to be a cakewalk. If I'm going to play a game that's easy I prefer one that at least gives me different strategies to experiment with (like the main games). Legends Arceus' battle system is too basic for me.

Battle-Required catching could work as long as all the animations are quick and snappy.
    Example below.
Battle starts and under a second later, you can select commands.
Pokémon do their moves, and the basic moves in the early game* resolve in under a second each, with little no downtime between animations.
Health bars reduce quickly, providing no tangible wait time.
Two seconds have passed since you selected your move last turn and you have the menu again.
You pick the bag, and the bag responds as snappy as the move selection. You've selected the pokéball in under a second-and-a-half.
The throw animation completes in under a second.
DRAMATIC PAUSE FOR POKEBALL TO SHAKE THREE TIMES!
    ...
    DING and the battle resolves.
Fewer than 20-30 seconds have passed and the wild battle is over, the pokemon is caught.
    You name them.
XP and such are small popups that appear after the battle is over, you already have control of your character again, only stopping you for new moves or evolutions.

PLA managed to make me optimistic that maybe Pokémon will correct itself but personally I still feel too burned to be outright hyped. I almost expect them to do something outrageously dumb and I need to see more to convince me otherwise. But I’m at least not entirely writing off hope anymore.

I can agree with all of this, I hope it brings over elements from aceous, but as long as we keep getting more legends style games, I’m down for a more traditions style of game… but also more experimenting in Pokémon (like the open world) is veeeery welcome!

Yea I'm just worried about the graphical fidelity...I want to be clear here, I'm NOT asking for photorealistic HD 4K graphics im talking about consistency in the art style and world elements such as lighting and textures. I'm excited Pokemon have textures like scales and shiny surfaces but, I'm worried about the texture compression of objects like on the walls and on character models. Like the opening shot of the town where the walls have these low quality patterns and pixel tiles while the Pokemon are higher quality is super jarring. Arceus while an ambitious project that I liked had atrocious texture compression and environment issues that I hope SV can fix.
Another thing I'm worried about is pop in. Arceus and SwSh had absolutely atrocious pop in this should not keep happening they need to develop some sort of fog or a seamless way for objects to load in as you get closer that doesn't take you out of the experience.
The final thing is the environments themselves. This was the announcement trailer so yea "game footage not final" or whatever but something I noticed is how the different environments handle different world elements affecting the art style of the different areas in a way that makes it less cohesive. I know it's a running gag to talk about trees but the opening shot has missing shadows for trees but shadows for clouds ? It's too early to tell but it's things like that make me a bit cautious about how this is going to turn out.
I want to reiterate because its lost in online discussions I do NOT want 4K photorealistic graphics I want a cohesive art style and consistency with how textures and lighting are handled. I think the gameplay formula is fine I liked Arceus and SwSh general gameplay formula but it's the graphical fidelity and story (a separate issue that's not too pressing for ME that I want to get into but it's the graphics that I think need to be addressed most imho).

My one issue with Arceus was the trainer battles that felt real bad because you didn't know they were coming, and the other trainer would send out three Pokemon to your one Pokemon, and they would each attack twice so you would get hit like six times before you got to go again, so if you weren't at full health or grossly over-leveled it just felt bad.

I didn't play Arceus because of how simple it was, I do like how variable the mainline pokemon games are. Movepools are huge, abilities and natures make your pokemon unique. I'd love to see a complete overhaul of EVs, but I like them from a competitive standpoint. I think there was some good behind Arceus, but I hope Scarlet/Violet are a lot closer to the mainline than Arceus.

I’m looking forward to the games. I really hope S/V evolves the PLA battle system.
The issue I have is it feels like the CPU bodies me even in the simpler Battles due to the Styles. They often get a sudden extra turn just because I made a bad call.

    • @DigitalxGamer

See, therein lies the fatal flaw in the PLA battle system. Speed is the only stat that ACTUALLY matters, and it makes Agile Style kinda broken. If you know a Pokemon is going to be on your endgame team, get its Speed Grit Level to 10 asap and teach it a buffing move and a priority move. You'll get so many free turns that it's basically impossible to lose. Especially if you're okay with using items. Also never use slower/tankier Pokemon unless you just really like that specific species; if you do elect to use one, though, you still want to bump speed to minimize the amount of times you get hit two or three times and practically NEVER use Strong Style. If you feel the need to bump up your defenses for these faster Pokemon (which can happen in this system since levels seem less important) then you can just bump their DEF/SDEF/HP Grit Levels too and you'll probably be fine.

  • @FatePokemon

All I hope is that they get rid of the Arceus battle system. I do not think it was an improvement AT ALL. I don’t think agile style and strong style were very significant changes, and the turn order being messed with is absolutely stupid and can be unfair to you and the AI opponent. PLEASE not that battle system man LOL

I adore Fuecoco. He looks like he hasn’t had a single thought in his life. Sprigatito is cute, but they’re a little too safe/basic in my opinion and of course might evolve into a humanoid. Quaxly is definitely very cute and has a dapper hat, but I think I’m going with Fuecoco. Maybe seeing them in-game will Influence my decision.

One thing people seem to forget is that these games were developed simultaneously alongside Legends, so they couldn't really get our feedback on Legends to make the new games. They didn't really see what worked and what didn't until too late.
I'm still skeptic about the open world too. If they could do it, they would've done it with Legends. So think about it, if this us more like a typical open world, then it won't be an upgrade to Legend's style. They'll change it to make it work. How? We'll see I guess.

in regards to the starters, i just hope we get an Atk/Sp Atk version of Eviolite and both stones have an everstone effect built in (why on earth the stone that only benefits pokemon that can still evolve doesn't also prevent them from evolving just baffles me) so it's actually viable to stick with the 1st or second evolutions. if we end up with more final evos like Inteleon into the PC my starter goes.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but ever since like gen 6 (heck even gen 4/5 besides Torterra & Samurott) the final evolutions of starters have become more and more humanoid to the point where SWSH's selection look like furry OCs instead of actual creatures.

    • @16BitKamek
      @16BitKamek 2 роки тому +1

That version of eviolite would be absolutely broken, and not good for the game. Depending on their speed stat, some will be leagues better than their evolutions, or even just completely break Little Cup. There's a reason why we have attack boosting items like life orb or choice band/specs, because they need downsides, even for pre evolved Pokemon.

Gen 3 got Blaziken don’t just count 4&5 bc of Infernape, Empoleon & Emboar lmao bc af least they looked more on the animal/monster side. Since Gen 6 all starters have stood up on 2 legs & incorporated Themes (like a Witch/Knight/Ninja) which made gens 6+ more humanoid than ones before.

    • @Deltakryzz

The only starter from gen 4-5 that looks humanoid is Infernape, but that's because it's an ape, so of course it's gonna look humanoid lol. And even if Emboar's bipedal, at least it looks more like a beast than a human. Same with Empoleon. Oh and Serperior exists, which is obviously NOT humanoid.

I'm having a hard time choosing the starters too. (I forgot their names.) The grass starter looks like a cat deviant art OC, so I am definitely not choosing it. The fire starter looks like a precious boy mixed with totodile, so I might chose him. Finally, the water starter looks very simple duck and a military military agent combined, so I really like him. I am TORN between the fire and water starter.

Water/fight, fire/dark, and grass/psychic type sets for final starter typings.. i hope-ish. Sorry, I really love the idea that eventually each starter counters each-other, really ties in type matchup evolutions as you become a better trainer and 'evolve' your skillset. I have always picked my starter long before evolutions were revealed/leaked and this time I'm pretty torn, I'm excited but also hungry for more info about the games in general.

I always choose the fire starter 1) because it's a cool type, but more importantly 2) because usually fire is a rarer, more mid/late game type than water and grass. It usually takes longer to find another fire type, but early game grass and water Pokemon are usually more common. The one exception to this rule is the generation that had its "Pidgey" be a fire bird.
