I understand the criticism about them being two mice considered to be a Pokémon, but we also have to remember Magneton is three of the same thing, Exeggcute is 6 individual eggs, Kangaskhan mother & baby are considered one Pokémon. It’s not a new concept.
I Honestly think they Tandemause and Mausehold have some sort of hivemimd. Afterall Bee and Ants colonies are considred to be one super organism so I don't see why it can't be the same for them. Naked Mole rats are rodents after all and they too have an hivemind.

Geologist here, and I gotta say, I LOOOOOOOVE what they did with Glimmora and Garganacl and here's why!
Nacli, Naclstack, and Garganacl are very blocky because the ionic bonds that form halite (aka salt) naturally forms into those cubic kinda shapes. I also love that they double as a salt lick for pokemon to get much needed minerals.
For Glimmet and Glimmora, they seem to be partly based on the mineral Chalcanthite, which is made of Copper (II) Sulfate. Chalcanthite is a very stunning blue color, and the crystals look kinda like a flower. It is also quite toxic! Which makes Glimmora's typing of Rock/Poison make a lot of sense.
I really love how much attention to detail Gamefreak puts into some of these designs! Here's hoping for more cool rocks!

Haha. My first reaction to Glimmora was to want to dissolve it for copper plating since it's a rock that's the color of copper sulfate.

Tbh, don't know where the idea of a Dragon came from. Especially in relation to the Tsuchinoko, the Japanese Cryptid to where Dunsparce is based upon.
It would honestly seem like it would evolve into a Bug, Normal, or Flying type in relation to the origins.

Personally I can see it, but I also realize it's just a funny looking snake cryptid. I really do appreciate what they did with Dudunsparce, the suggested spite behind it is too funny 😂

Okay so Palafin switches between those forms only in battle. Palafin needs to switch out and switch back in to become the hero form (because it's a superhero and doesn't want anyone to know its secret identity). So basically never switch it out and it'll always stay the heart dolphin.

@@Jw87563not really, slaking moves once every two turns , Palafin can use an attack to leave the field and then get back and you have a strong pokemon for the entire battle.
I used to spoil the Pokémon in previous gens, but this time I went in 99% blind (only checked the starters). And honestly, I don’t regret it at all. When I evolved a Wooper to fill my Pokédex and saw… that… I SCREAMED like a little boy. Immediately threw out anyone and everyone to make room

With regard to Tandemaus and Maushold, keep in mind that: Dugtrio is just 3 Digletts put together, Kangaskhan is a combination of mother and child, and Falinks are 6 Kirby Pokémon put together.
I’m not even sure about the dugtrio thing anymore, the Scarlet pokedex entry says “this Pokémon’s three heads”, does that mean it’s one creature with three heads or is it three separate digletts? It freaks me out
And Exeggcute is a bunch of individual seeds that look like eggs.
We don't have confirmation of Dugtrio being 3 Digglet. For all we know, it could be a giant 3 headed digglet

My first encounter with Spidops haunts my nightmares. I entered a new area and I’m just strolling along when something falls from the tree above me. I got so confused because I hadn’t seen that happen before so I’m looking around trying to figure out what it was and I just see Spidops, a Pokémon I’ve NEVER seen before booking it towards me. So ya I also don’t like that one

I was catching something in the northern bamboo area and when it cut back to my player throwing the ball a Spidops was walking closer and looked like it was about to choke my character out
i was also bothered by the names "lechonk" and "smoliv" because they really do seem like memey names. but then I thought it a bit, like a combination of the words "lechon" and "oink" makes sense. and there's not really a better way to combine the words "small" and "olive" without making the pronunciation confusing (smalive?) so I've grown used to them. the coincidence of sounding like meme names are more unfortunate than anything

@@ReptilianTeaDrinker It's the name of the dish, but it's also what we call the piglets, kind of like "lamb" in English means both the animal and the meat. So you might choose to think of it as just being named after a young pig.

ive seen so much disdain for quaquavel on the internet but i cant help but love him not only because he's girly pop but also because his idle animation is a batucada, a samba move, and also my fave latin dance. im obsessed with him and no one has talked abt it.

I've heard people mention that the wheel on Cyclizar and Koraidon are supposed to be like the little dewlap on Anole lizards and I can see it. They curl up their tails to make the back wheel when they're running and it's so silly I love these lizards

Don't worry with Palafin: you'll never have to see the hero form if you don't want to. The gimmick with palafin is that it's supposed to look just like finizen, that's why the only difference is the heart on the chest. How you get the hero form is to have palafin go into battle, and it back to your party then have it come back into battle. It's supposed to be like a superhero changing into his costume. But it goes back to normal after battle. I didn't like the hero form at first until I realized it's a dolphin with a secret identity that changes into a hero cuz that's so funny 😭😭😭
I'm still in the first 15 mins or so of the video. That said, it's my personal responsibility to let you know that Spidops fell out of a random tree in Tagtree Thicket and got me. Total giant spider falling out of a tree to land on me PTSD. Be warned. I love tarantulas, but I don't like sudden surprise bugs on me. Oh, and yes, it is BIG.

I like the theory that Tandemous isn't a family of mice, it's just some kind of escaped science experiment on hive minds. It's literally one creature, akin to The Thing. When it's fed enough enough biomatter it multiplies when its Trainer isn't looking and they go along side-by-side. The fact that it's Normal-type, not Psychic, meaning that its connection is purely biological in nature, and nothing in the game ever addresses the fact that it multiplies makes it even more horrifying lol.

The pokedex entries do actually mention the multiplication, It states that the little ones just suddenly appear and no one knows where they came from, and that while they act like a family, it's unknown if the little ones are even related to their "parents".
Given they are white mice they could also be partially based on lab rats so the clone theory is possible.
i feel like tandemaus/moushold refuse to be separated and so they had to count them as one pokemon as a technicality, because they all go into the same pokeball. if maushold was 3 or 4 pokemon, then the 6 pokemon limit would be harder to enforce. and even the player can't stop them from evolving, even if you give them an everstone, so i think they're just very hard to control and keep apart no matter what you do. i'd imagine in-universe pokemon professors and researchers still argue about it though.
falinks is/are also multiple creatures that aren't physically connected to each other.

I was a bit disappointed with them. :( Like, they're okay, but they dso make me think of Mickey Mouse funko pops and that just ruins it for me, honestly. I agree with many of your opinions but Tinkaton honestly deserves better. She’s a tiny little hammer wielding icon with a fantastic typing. Also it is very easy to avoid that gold French fry Pokémon that evolves from the treasure chest as it’s incredibly difficult to obtain (you have to get 999 of those little hidden coins).
I named all my tauros in this game "Ferdinand." Partly because I love that story, but also because if you tell me I have to come up with 400 new pokemon names, my brain will short-circuit and forget all words that aren't immediate association. I named my Ting-Lu Ceramoose just because pottery + cervidae. It's probably not even a ceramic bowl.
Agree with all of Amanda's Paradox takes. The Scarlet paradox monsters are just that-- monsters! They're terrifying, confusing, scary things! Then violet just has mechanical lookin' Pokemon. I'd be cool with one or two of them, but can they not just give us one organic looking monster from the future? Why is the future all chrome! Spongebob knew.
I absolutely loved the ancient paradox pokémon names are basically translated scientific names.
I think I accepted the fact that Tandemous and Moushold exist by thinking about them as Siphonophores. Theyre still fucking weird though.

Honestly? I kinda love how they keep giving us new pokemon each generation that leave us scratching our heads as to how multiple beings work as one creature. Kangaskhan, Falinks, Tandemaus + Maushold, Wishiwashi, etc.
For Tandemaus, think of Exeggcute. I imagine they multiply when pulled apart. You take one away from the other, put it in your car and drive off. When you turn back to check, it will be two Tandemaus again. And when you drive back to the one you left behind? There would be two there as well. So you’ll have a total of four.
The Pokédex sort of hints to this, because it says “when you aren’t looking, another appears.” Or something to that effect.
It’s signature move, Population Bomb, in Japanese is a pun that can mean “mouse cut” or “exponential growth” so this checks out.
Just looked into how it works with Exeggcute- even if they are separated, they communicate telepathically to be brought back together. So yes, they are Six and no less. It’s like they are amputated. If Tandemaus works the same way, then they are inseparable and will find a way back to each other.
Fun fact, aquaquaval isn't dancing, he's doing the basic capoeira stepping technique known as genga.
Nobody ever mentions this, but Quaquaval is totally doing Capoeira as his fighting style, right? I know this game is based on the Iberian Peninsula, but I've definitely noticed other Central and South American references in it (I think Skeledirge is meant to emulate either the calaveras or alabrijes from Mexico,) so I think it's pretty safe to assume that as a peacock carnival dancer he's doing Brazilian dance fighting. His idle animation looks an awful lot like the starting move in Capoeira, the Ginga, just more upright rather than squatting. Then again, I don't know an awful lot about Carnival in Spain, so I would like to know if there is a similar dance or fighting-style there that it could be based off of.

@@ReptilianTeaDrinker Well it's funny, because I thought a lot of other people would recognize it from Tekken maybe, if they hadn't seen it anywhere else before.
Also, after asking this I got a suggested video of someone discussing the starters' design influence, and he said the same thing about Skeledirge and Quaquaval that I did, but he also mentioned Meowscarada as possibly being influenced by Mardi Gras in New Orleans. So they are all based on three places that were colonized by European countries - Spain, Brazil, and France - and I love it because Game Freak is basically telling us in neon letters that they *are* going to connect Paldea to Kalos at some point.

Spidops is based off of net casting/ogre faced spiders that hold their legs together the way Spidops does. Not saying it makes him any less upsetting, but it does have real life inspiration

Thankfully, Palafin only turns into its superhero form when you switch it out and then back in during the same battle. Palafin will normally only be in its regular dolphin-with-a-heart form during battle. So as long as you don’t switch out constantly, you can avoid its muscleman alter-ego.

I totally understand where your disdain for Lechonk's name comes from, because I felt the same, until shortly after its first reveal when people clarified its because lechon is a dish made from pigs 🥺

The Tandemaus/Maushold is just a multi-mon pokemon similar to Dreepy/Drakloak/Dragapult. I honestly love it because it implies it will have some unique attacks that are enabled by having multiple characters in one unit

Shroodle could be a ‘shrew’ venom pun (since it’s poison type). Not sure if it makes sense for shrews to evolve into aye ayes though
Both shrews and aye-ayes have been misclassified as rodents in the past (shrews for obvious reasons, aye-ayes because they have similar teeth). It could be a reference to that.

If it makes you feel better about Lechonk's name, it's not supposed to be the whole "Le" thing. The name comes from the Spanish word "Lechón" which means "Piglet"

You actually spilled so hard on the mice and the robots, like, I don’t understand how so many people like them.
Like, with the mice, I agree so much on how weird they are. They don’t even look like Pokémon on their own, but then they’re supposed to be one singular being as a duo, trio or quartet? Not a fan. At least ones like Zweilous and Dodrio are all attached to one body.
Anyway, yeah and the robots too were so extremely disappointing. I’ve been a fan of speculative zoology for a bit now and when I learned that we’d get past and future Pokémon, I was so excited to see them. I remember one of the early fan arts had Swoobat turn into a reference to that one walking flower-like bat from After Man, it was so cool. And then the future paradox Pokémon got revealed to all be robots - literally the laziest way to tackle “the future evolution”. At least Tyranitar fit as mecha Godzilla, but the rest of them are either ugly like Donphan or literally the exact same but with LEDs like Hydreigon.

But i was just evolving for dex entries) and it became this big beautiful gorgeous black/yellow bird ;_; also sth i find hit or miss are pokemon cries bc often theyre just not that memorable but man kilowattrel's cry?! Just a screamy boi?? He sounds so cute I named mine cajuil which means cashew and i love him

56:47 fun fact, along with the Chinese giant salamander, clodsire is also heavily based off of the Iberian ribbed newt, a species of newt endemic to Spain and Portugal with the capability of sticking its spiky ribs out of its body as a defense mechanism, hence why in game clodsire does a similar thing.
that’s so awesome!!! I bred those guys for years, they’re so funny and cool! I never even would have guessed because of how gangly ribbed newts are but the ribs thing and how it has those spikes come up out of it makes perfect sense!!!! Soooo cool and i love that they paid homage to an endemic species to the area the game is based on. Thanks for this fun fact!

Your point about feeling off about catching legendaries that are the only one of their kind is something I've felt for SO LONG and i always felt crazy for feeling like the only one. It's like Mewtwo can adopt clone children and own real estate so putting him in a ball feels like kidnapping and disrespectful of me lol
I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure tatsugiri is based off of that one parasite that like eats a fish's tongue and then becomes its tongue because when it is with a dondozo in a double battle it jumps into its mouth and controls it from inside and if dondozo faints tatsugiri just jumps out and carries on

About not knowing what the new Pokemon will look like, I was one of them. I wanted to go in blind, not knowing what new Pokemon there was. I even had to disable notifications for Twitter because of spoilers. And was very careful on UA-cam just in case too.
My in world guess for why the organisms that make up Tandemaus and Maushold are categorized as singular Pokémon is because they can't exist as solo individuals. What I mean is, because of how reliant these organisms have evolved to be on their partners, if the two individuals that make up a Tandemaus are ever separated for whatever reason, it become basically impossible for them to survive solo for any meaningful amount of time. As well, the individuals could be so emotionally attached to each other that they will literally just give up if they lose their partner, which isn't too crazy of an idea even in real life biology.
When Tandemaus have kids they become categorized as a different pokemon because their capabilities and behaviors are far different from when they were just the original pair. When the babies grow up they likely set off on their own to find another unpaired partner to form a new Tandemaus unit. The departure of matured Maushold children would likely be triggered by some kind of environmental trigger so that all of the new solo individuals could more easily find an available mate to pair up with. When two unpaired individuals decide pair up, they'd probably bond through each other's pheromones. This would allow them to always recognize their partner as well as more easily find each other if separated. Any individuals that fail to find a partner fast enough would likely be quickly picked off by predators.
When the children of a Maushold unit are gone, the remaining parents would be categorized as a Tandemaus again until they have more offspring, which I assume would happen more quickly for the older more experienced pairs.
I think the main cause for confusion with these two Pokémon is we're not thinking about them in the right way. In world, they are almost certainly recognized to be multiple organisms. However, because their survival and abilities are so determinant on them being in one of these two group states, in terms of being categorized as Pokémon they are only identified as a Tandemaus or a Maushold. There's no point in categorizing the individuals as Pokémon if they can't survive extended periods of time by themselves.

My assumption is an individual would be known as a Maus since that appears in the names for both of the group types the individuals can form.
