  • Rossini's "The Barber of Seville" has provided opera lovers with one of the most celebrated arias in operatic literature, Figaro's "Largo al factotum." In this performance, taken from a Gala Opera Benefit at Lincoln Center, Philharmonic Hall, New York in 1969, it was sung by the distinguished American baritone, William Walker.
The Metropolitan Opera House orchestra accompanied a glittering ensemble of opera singers and was conducted by three maestros, one of whom was Leopold Stokowski. He was in one of his rare forays into Italian opera and as will be heard, the capacity audience clearly enjoyed the efforts of both singer and conductor.

I like how you can hear the audience laugh at 3:47. This is a great song to start the new year. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you have a wonderful year of joy and calm.
