A good pointer could be that it “can”throw your kms out of calibration and also will make you believe your using more fuel than you actually are, leaving your hilux to tell you incorrect kms range
265/65's actually adjusted the speedo to dead on, GPS verified. Jury is still out on the fuel usage with the bigger tyres. I think there maybe an inaccuracy with the fuel use computer...
Ronny the guy who install your new tires really know his job well, all new tires have a colored round mark somewhere in the sidewall this dot indicates the spot where the skeleton of the tire merges together, this spot is the heavyest of the tire and need to be placed exaclly in the valve of the rim in order to have the best possible allighnment, if you froze the video on 3:56 you'll see that they have put the yellow dot correctlly next to the valve, it's something that most tire shops don't know and of course many owners too. You can see this mark also in the spare tire you're holding which was instoled from the factory but instead of yellow dot it has a red dot 4:05
I ended up going with the LT 285 70R17 KO2's on my 2020 Ranger, and the 3" level on the front. Doesn't rub the mud flaps, but just a bit, touches the front crash bar! And yes, my speed is now 6KM/H faster. I've been asking around, but the Ford dealers can't adjust it with their computers. Only can be changed through aftermarket software!

Just bought the mans version of the SR5 the SR didn't want the SR5 (ladies version) because the SR already come with 17 inch steelies, easier to clean (no carpet) plus chrome is for Toranas and Falcons. They sound and feel like a highway terrain but act like an all terrain off road, love em.
I left the standard rims on when I upgraded to 31.5" AT tyres, 15" or 16". I consider anything above 16" too big. The tyre did not rub and I also upgraded to 2" OME suspension, the best ride ever.
Very few 16" rims will clear the front brakes on a current model Hilux, so 17" is about as small as you can go unless you want to test fit a bunch of rims for clearance. The standard rims are 18".
Ronny, i just bought the exact luxy, and does putting a 31.5 size tyre on my new car void my 5 year warranty?? And will these tyres strain my suspension and engine because they are bigger than the stock wheels it has come with ?? Love the look of these wheels and plan to do medium tracks, nothing crazy, looks good without the lift and has the capability compared to the stock wheels and rims it comes with.Cheers

nice content, need your advice i have a hilux twin cab 2009 with 2in lift, i m using standard size 265/65/17 AT tyre and J17/7.5 rim. Now its time for me to change as they are almost worn out. The vehicle i normally use for road use and once in a while going offroad during the weekend. What is your recommendation for tyre and rim, i looking into styles and comfort. Thanks
Nice choice Ronny love how you're switching it up slightly w the ATs and Alloy rims. I guess the spare fit underneath no dramas? Are you going to throw another on the rear lid for extra weight or wait until you add the rear bar?
Well done Ronny, did it effect the speedometer? It’s only an inch but an inch can make all the difference 😉 Love those rims too expensive to get them in the UK.
33's on my Hilux put the odo out by 8%, although the speedo is pretty much dead-on. Just means I need to figure out my fuel economy manually all the time.
It is all "just maths". ie. it can be calculated and corrected via an OBD2 programmer. (if factory tyre size = 30.5 inch; 31 inch = 1.6% bigger ...( 32 is 4.9%, 33 is 8.2% 34 is 11.48% 35 is 14.75% ) - so just an inch can make 3.3% difference - not enough to hurt possibly, but at the other end of the scale it can mess with the numbers. PS - using the odometer to determine "accuracy" / fuel consumption etc - especially when it has not been corrected for tyre size - is an act of "science denial". The only real way to assess fuel consumption is to drive a "verified distance" [have a favourite 400km - for example - test track with consistent conditions and traffic (science would say drive it many times in each configuration and calculate the stats. - driving once is just an anecdote.] and measure usage - not using the vehicle's trip computer or any inbuilt gizmo..
Very nice and, I think, thourough, explanation of tyre choices. As any farmer also would tell you, yes radials make for a far better footprint in the loose stuff, but lacks the durability of the diagonal tyre´s sidewalls. However, it is very noticeable on farm equipment that the build of the tyre makes high speed travels a lot bumpier. Do you notice this with car tires as well? It´s especially notiaceable if you leave a loaded trailer over night (quite often 12-14ply) overnight, the tyres will make a perfect impression of an egg the next day. Love your roll bar, that´s the sexiest part so far :)
I think what you are doing with this build is a cool idea. Something I wish I saw more in the overland/off reading community. Sensible builds. Gives those of us without the $$ right now some hope to get out and explore. Cautiously of course. Also, jealous of the Hilux look compared to the Tacoma in the States.
I know you dislike them but i am loving the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tyres. Very capable off road and quite on road. Anyway those rims look amazing, as always, good video.
@@Ronny_Dahl Fair enough, you would have put them through more than I have, if they fail me when I start hitting harder tracks I'll look into the Tyres you just put on the Hilux
I can hear the difference between the highway and all terrain tires. The surprising bit is that, I think, from the change in the noise, that some of what you thought was wind noise was actually coming from the highway tires, because even though the noise level was slightly higher afterward, it was a much lower pitch, so some of the higher pitch noise from before was also not there afterward. I could be completely wrong of course, but that's what it sounds like to me in the video.
Hi Ronny, you've knocked up quite a few km on the AT811's now. What are your thoughts on these compared to the Maxxis RAZR MT's you run on the cruiser?
Hello Ronny I love your videos and also the Hilux Planning to do my own build. Can u recommend me stores to buy the parts outside Australia. (Europe preferred)
Hi Buddy Trust you are well. What’s the best rim & tyre size for the 2024 Hilux GR in terms of road performance? Vehicle hardly does off road stuff. Please advice.
Hi Ronny, just bit puzzled here you went fron 18" rims to 17" rims with higher profile tyres therefore gaining 1" in clearance on a fully inflated tyre. When you drop your tyre pressure to 10 or so PSI you are actually loosing your clearance as your tyres in both sizes deflate to lets say 3" height less 1" in rim size. Wouldnt you be better off staying with the original 18" rims and putting 265/70s on as it will increase your clearance even when running 10PSI.
marketing 101 (Ronny is the one playing the marketing game here), the tyre guy got airtime in front of 80k sets of eyes - and counting, what is that worth?
Ronny, am I right in thinking you now have a smaller diameter wheel (rim + tyre)? Comments have mentioned recalibrating...odometers/speedometers? What are the legal implications if you are to sell a truck with a different rolling diameter wheel? What if you change tyres (highway/off-road) with different diameters regularly, can you recalibrate easy, or should your rim/tyre combo be the same to avoid confusion?
In ruts you will dismantle the tyre from the rim at 7 -8 psi with very high probability. I did that twice :) at 0.5 bar rear and 0.6-0.7 bar front. Dismantled front tyre in both cases. For snow and sand and careful driving is probably fine. Hello from Russia :)

Good video. Here is a question regarding tyres. Currently I’m with a 2016 Hilux with standard 265/65/r17 tyres. The new Hilux is already preordered but it has 18 inch tyres. Now I really like the summer and winter tyre set for the r17 the question is that can I swap the two cars tyres without any disadvantages? Thanks for the answer!

Awesome video Ronny, thanks. Waiting for more tunes
It’s only an inch but an inch can make all the difference 😉
Love those rims too expensive to get them in the UK.
Not by much yet to confirm how much
On Colorado 2017 it was +7km and lot of speed tickets.
33's on my Hilux put the odo out by 8%, although the speedo is pretty much dead-on. Just means I need to figure out my fuel economy manually all the time.
Used the Hema to get an accurate reading
Love how the luxy is coming along Ronny!
Spotted the tub lid and tie down rack. Saw the rock sliders as well.
Legend Ronny - some of the best Aussie 4x4 content
Hey Ronnie nice video! Will want to see Luxy in person at the perth 4wd show. Where's the prado review that you made a few weeks back?
FYI the song Ronny used is 'Songs of Fire · Nikki Roof Ego'
Great tires combo! Perfect match for the Hilux
I know you dislike them but i am loving the Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus tyres. Very capable off road and quite on road.
Anyway those rims look amazing, as always, good video.
I’ve had them before never ever again
@@Ronny_Dahl Fair enough, you would have put them through more than I have, if they fail me when I start hitting harder tracks I'll look into the Tyres you just put on the Hilux
Great idea! Love your channel, mate!
Very helpful mate! And nice rego plate too!
"THIS reminds me of grand theft auto" haha love it
Hi Ronny great video. What’s the bolt pattern on the 17” wheels? And are the AT tyres size 285 70 R 17?
Hi Ronny, one question, why don't you use the beadlock system (rims)? Regards from Chile
This is cool to watch, interesting to see what Hiluxes are all about since we can only get Tacomas in the US.
I love the look of the patriot rims!
Looks nice, do you need a speedocorrection after fitting these bigger wheels?
Ooh a boost smoothie! If you regularly drink one I recommend a gym junkie with blue berries added into it, it will change your life mate.
The wolf now has some nice new paws!
So did you pay for the rims and tyres? No prices on what they would cost if you did.
Hi Ronny, you've knocked up quite a few km on the AT811's now. What are your thoughts on these compared to the Maxxis RAZR MT's you run on the cruiser?
i have Maxxis 980's very happy with them
I had a set of those they are a good tyre
Great video I was wondering I have the razar AT-811 on my Tacoma, was thinking about stepping up to the razar mt. Hopefully they won’t be to noisy!
So far, so good. Like the “easy mods”
Brad the tyre guy, is definitely a south african with that accent. Nice one Brad. Lekker boetie
I bet he has lots of storys about how he does things better then X Y Z

Picked it up immediately, love our people doing their thing all over the world.
Hello Ronny
I love your videos and also the Hilux
Planning to do my own build.
Can u recommend me stores to buy the parts outside Australia.
(Europe preferred)
Thanks Ronny for the video, I would like to make the change on my Hilux but what is the width of the rim ? 17x7 ? 17x9 ?
Hi Buddy
Trust you are well.
What’s the best rim & tyre size for the 2024 Hilux GR in terms of road performance?
Vehicle hardly does off road stuff.
Please advice.
Long awaited for this video.
Your openion on Dmax?
this is like “money pit” on donut media, but for trucks and 4wd. Amazing!
Great video love how the Luxy is looking
Did you pay RRP or get a bit of a discount on the wheels and tyres?
I was thinking the same as you. Would be good to know.
YES he needs to be upfront, whats to hide?
marketing 101 (Ronny is the one playing the marketing game here), the tyre guy got airtime in front of 80k sets of eyes - and counting, what is that worth?
You will/might scrub on the inside guards I’ve yet to alter mine a little bit
Hi, enjoyed your tires and wheels segment. But can you explain why you chose that particular offset for those tyres. Understand the difference between positive and negative offset, but how do you calculate the exact offset your require for the Hilux? This bit was skipped over......
I did my research and spoke to a few Hilux owners. Offset will work differently for other males models.
