Yes, this was performed totally live as well as unrehearsed with the backing band. At the start of the clip, the two pianists can be seen conferring with one another. Anni-Frid had given them a sheet of paper with the songs arrangement. So they are all basically 'winging it' here and on her TV debut too. But even though she's just 21 years old here, she was already a veteran of live performances and being able to improvise. A recently released biography showed that she'd performed in something like 1,200 concerts and shows, fronting various bands or as a soloist, before ABBA was formed.

This performance is nuts on several levels. I don't know if your version had Englisg captions on or not, but the host's interview with Frida reveals a few things. One, this is her first appearance on national television. She had just won a singing competition, and come directly to the studio for this appearance. Two, this was her first time performing with this orchestra, and they had done no rehearsals. You can see at 4:57 an off-camera director helping her with mic placement which she acknowledges by smiling. Her poise through shyness is stunning.

A remarkable performance. Still, the contrast to this clip from 1981, 14 years later, when she is a fully fledged rock singer, is remarkable as well. Love botht clips though. ua-cam.com/video/MM7CC0JsEKM/v-deo.html

FRIDA was an xperienced jazz singer performing live since aged 14-15 with orchestras. That one was 5 years before ABBA.

Agnetha had a very expressive voice, but Frida was a virtuoso singer who could belt with power in her chest voice, resonate deeply with her sultry lower register and clearly can even get up to whistle notes in her head voice. She was also able to sing a wide range of vocal styles, from jazz and opera to pop and rock. Her voice often anchors the ABBA sound, yet the boys never really utilized all of her talents within the group, frequently giving her ballads and mid-tempo tracks that took advantage of her sultry, silky delivery in her lower register, but rarely giving her a chance to shine in her upper register, giving those tracks to Agnetha who was a soprano to Frida's mezzo.. except maybe for a couple of songs on The Visitors. When Frida did her two English solo albums after ABBA, she proved she could also really belt out a song in a more rock format. On ABBA's 'comeback' album, Voyage, they finally gave Frida a great rock song with 'No Doubt About It'... the notes she can still hit in her mid-70s? Amazing!

This program is Swedish and called Hylands Hörna (Hyland's corner) presented by Lennart Hyland. It ran for more than 20 years and during some of that time Sweden only had one TV-channel. It started as a radio program in 1961 i think.

    Lennart Hyland says:
1:00 Fix your face now! (to the musicians)
Such a wonderful panic has broken out here! (No order of the notes.)
1:08 By car directly from the competition Children's Day!
Completely unprepared without having met anyone here,
so comes the woman who won todayNon is here and she has handed over a note that Leif didn't understand (the pianist)
1:28 Can you guys play this now?
1:39 Here she comes! Anne-Frid Lyngstad.
    1:47 Congratulations!
1:53 Lennart: This was an exciting day, I understand!
    Anne-Frid says: Yes indeed!
    Lennart: You're used to competing!?
She replies: Not like that, used actually!
Lennart asks: Where are you from?
    She answers: From Eskilstuna!
Lennart: You have been involved before in contexts like this?
    She answers: Yes, I have!
Then they discuss placements in competitions.
2:24 Lennart: What is your occupation?
Anne-Frid answers: I am married and have two children, that is my profession!
    Applause
2:50 Idiot Lennart asks if it's hindering her singing career.
She swears: I don't think so!
2:55 Lennart asks: Would you now like to get a start? (within the music)
Anne-Frid answers: It is possible, but I don't think so!
    3:18 They're just chatting.
3:21 Lennart wonders: What numbers did you win with?
3:20 It's from Sweden It's a talk show with an idiot named
    Lennart Hyland.
Anne-Frid was born in Norway but grew up in Sweden.
Her mother was raped by a German soldier. She then could not stay in Norway.
When Anne-Frid was a baby, the mother was called the German Whore and then she fled to Sweden.
3:35 Anne-Frid says she will sing a song as in translation to
English name "It was an ordinary day"
3:43 Lennart wonders if the orchestra is ready
Lennart says that she has never performed the song before in the media.
3:52 Anne - Frid asks to hold the microphone.
    Translated text:
    It was a day off
    Filled with pleasure
I walked in the sun felt the heat
    I was happy
    From the sea came music
    To every little cove
    Just this beautiful day
    A lovely day off
I walked on the beach feeling the sand
    Warm and comfortable
    A boat with sails
    Was waiting for me
    Playfully easy I saw
    Every little wave
    Dancing towards the beach
    The moment we found
Oh, it was a day off
All of a sudden I remembered
    How you and I once
    From the world steered away
    Think how nice to remember
    Our in-laws
A day by the sea so nice
    Playfully easy I saw
    Every little wave
    Dancing towards the beach
    The moment we found
Oh, it was a day off
All of a sudden I remembered
    How you and I once
    From the world steered away
    Think how nice to remember
    Our in-laws
A day by the sea so nice

Nice translation. One small correction though. There was no rape. Anni-Frid's parents had a year long love affair. There may have been a degree of initial exploitation from the soldier as food was very scarce for the villagers and he had access to army supplies. She eventually fell in love with him and was heartbroken when he disappeared and the Lyngstad family was told he had died as his ship taking him back to Germany was reported to have sunk. Anni-Frid's mother died very young (only 21 years old) and the child was raised by one grandmother. Many years later, when ABBA was super popular, Anni-Frid's father was found to be still alive and they met.

Hi bro, if you would like to appreciate Frida's versatility more, you MUST react to Frida's last solo effort in 1996, in a song about preservation of the environment, entitled AVEN EN BLOMMA. FAANTASTICC ❤️👌
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do choose the long version, as the short ones were missing the most beautiful part of the song.. Good luck my friend 😊👍

I love this performance. Her voice really shines here. It used to be about the art, now it seems it`s all about the artist. Other classy artists: Dimash Kudaibergen and Tarja Turunen. Absolutely amazing vocalists and performers with classy style in everything they do.
Have you checked Tarja singing classical music? Like Ave Maria or Mein Herr Marquis?

Have recently seen this before and she is superb. You can listen to Frida's and Agnetha's pre-ABBA songs although most do not have accompanying videos. They also have post-ABBA Albums with some in English. Please do not neglect the ones in Swedish. Some are outstanding. I find that most people (including myself) do not follow all the words in a song anyway. Since re-hearing ABBA I have made sure to check out the lyrics - which adds to the pleasure. On Spotify etc. you often get the Swedish lyrics. Google translate will then help you understand the song. After ABBA Björn continued writing lyrics and Benny music. Benny even has his own orchestra - BAO. Videos of the orchestra's live open air concerts are a treat and feature 2 of Sweden's other famous singers - Tommy Körberg and Helen Sjöholm both of whom are well worth a listen. Of course there are over 7 hours of ABBA songs to keep you busy😊

It is brave of you to dare reacting to a perfomance in Swedish. Annifrid Lyngstad had been performing since the age of 13, mostly with local jazz bands. Some of her early jazz performances are available on youtube and they are really great. Her fellow ABBA-singer Agnetha Fältskog was a singer-songwriter that scored her first number one in Sweden in 1967. She wrote the song herself. She performed with a dance band back then. Those were normally 3-4 hour performances with a break. Here is a link to a live performance of that song and another one in a sports arena. ua-cam.com/video/z64bFrlfiEI/v-deo.html . You might enjoy it.

Great video great reaction. I just love Frida's voice. Agnetha has a great voice of coarse but I always preferred Frida's fuller, richer tone to Agnetha head tones. This is in Sweden. Anni-Frid was born in Norway under not good circumstances she only revealed later in her life. She was a lebensborn child born to a Noweigan mother and a Nazi soldier father. The nazis wanted to create a master race called aryians. Tall, blonde, blue eyed. They had soldiers make as many as possible and Norway was perfect stock. These children would often be shipped to Germany for adoption. When the Germans lost these children were treated horribly because of they had been a part of the program. The mother's were branded collaborates. The children were ostricized, put in mental institutions, experimented on, etc Frida's grandmother snuck her into Sweden to avoid these things and that's where she grew up. Her mother died when she was 2. Frida is a shy quiet person I guess and till day has problems dealing with how she came about

    • @chelseacharger
      @chelseacharger 3 місяці тому

She was not a Lebensborn child. Can you please refrain from spreading this false information about. Her story is well known to long time ABBA and Frida fans. She is one of WW2's 'war children' because of her German soldier father. Her parents had a genuine love affair. The pregnancy happened when they spent one last time together before his ship left Narvik in the morning. This was February 1945 and the German forces were evacuating out of Northern Norway. So the Lebensborn program was already finished during the pregnancy. The Lyngstad family had no contact with that organisation before anyway. Anni-Frid was born in mid November 1945 in her home village, six months after WW2 ended in Europe. Yes, they faced the same retribution as those born as part of the program but they were not involved in it themselves.
