One of the most filthy bass riffs to have ever be written. Thank you Prestia for writing it and thank you for nailing it. It’s awesome hearing it pronounced.
Well played. Rocco's style of playing, muting and 16th note groves we're great and certainly tests your endurance and stanima. Sad week loosing EVH too. RIP Rocco and Eddie. Cheers
Great cover, thanks a lot. I noticed you played a dead note that is not in the tabs (first at approx 1:01) between the two 1/8th G's on the 2nd string (after the three 1/16 C-C-C, 1/8 G-x-G). I admit I had to play it on 0.25x speed to notice it :). But which one is the most accurate? Thanks!
Thanks Tony - you're absolutely right man. I listened back, and it's funny - I think I got lazy there and wrote it wrong. Listening back to the original there are definitely ghost 16ths between those 8ths on the G. I've listened to the song so much over time that I played it right, but it I oversimplified it when writing it out! It should definitely be G-x-G, 16th, 16th, 8th.
That’s ….that’s really something, I’m auditioning for band that’s in the song list . That won’t be one I’ll be playing, and not sure at 68 I could learn to play it….in my lifetime. If I could…then I think I could play anything. Serious good skills awesome job!
For anyone struggling, the key to this song is to make sure you ALWAYS play the first E on the A string with your INDEX finger. When you hit the low E, play it with either your middle or thumb so you can then hit the 16th notes starting on the index finger. If you dont do this you will be in a world of pain :) Good luck and happy playing everyone
Any chance you could do a slowed down version of this song. Can I also ask that you put the transcription banner at the top, not the bottom. When I pause it to get a closer look the time bar obscures my view of the transcription. Thanks heaps. Loving the channel.
Thanks man! Yeah I could definitely do that. What percent speed are you thinking? And re the positioning of the tabs, definitely - I'm doing that for all my videos now - this one was an early one and I got lots of similar comments since then so I changed it up for all my videos since then.
I learned this song through this video. At the beginning, I used UA-cam function, setting the video to 0.50 speed. Then to 0.75, finally to normal speed. Thanks Benny.
I think its gonna b a good exercise to my right hand....what do u say.....did you ever take this song as an exercise....n also to my left...is it okay to say exercise song....if you say yes then im gonna work on this
I'm a HUGE fan of taking songs that I like and turning them into exercises. So yes 100% I have in the past used this song as an exercise and I think every bass player could benefit from doing it. For example take the verse pattern with the octave jumps and 16th notes and just move it around - strings, frets and tempos, etc.
i've asked you for a request before, and this one is unsusual but if you like the song, i've never seen a cover of Belzebuth by Les Colocs ( 90s montreal band)
It's just practice man :) For my right hand, I played along with "Parallel Universe" by the Chili Peppers until my hand felt like it was falling off (probably like a minute in, to start), and then I came back the next day and did it again - think of it as stamina just like a runner or any type of cardio. You just chip away at small goals until you can smash them, and then you set a slightly higher goal and chip away.
Great video, thanks! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to play this and looking at your right hand, I noticed you don't use the same finger every time to reach the sharp E from the main riff. I think that if you did a rack down with the middle finger instead of alternating when you hit the low E, you could use the same finger pattern for every bar. What do you think?
It's certainly debatable. The guitar solo contains lots of "blues notes" and the melody has minor thirds, but the bassline has major thirds all over the place, so I went with E major just to clear up the bass part of some more accidentals. There are virtually no G naturals in Rocco's line and tonnes of G#s all over the place.
The amount of funk in this bassline is illegal. I cannot stop playing it!
One of the most filthy bass riffs to have ever be written. Thank you Prestia for writing it and thank you for nailing it. It’s awesome hearing it pronounced.
That bassline is relentless! The funkiest 16th-notes ever.
Agreed!! Rocco is something special, man.
You heard of Dean Town? :P This one is close second though
@@TheEstonianAaron Oh get out, Dean Town is a cool riff but it's not funky. it's a keyboard part played on bass
Maybe if you want to listen a funky bassline by Joe Dart, Daddy He Got a Tesla
My bass teacher has me working on this. I will report my progress in 2026
Two years and counting. I hope you've been practicing.
@@SnoochyB😂😂 He's hard at work

What a dope bassline, learning this after losing Rocco. Rip both of them :(
Best cover on UA-cam - much thanks (this is hip).
when that bridge ... mmmmm... hipness is... what it is... yum. thats the funkiest bass part ive heard in a while
Not as easy song. Good job smashing it!
Thanks Jake! Definitely not an easy one, but an absolute classic. Been playing it for more than 10 years now :D
Also your tone is absolutely filthy and monstrous. Great job!
R.I.P. Francis Rocco Prestia 🙏
Definitely a contender for best bass line ever
Really grooving playing here.
Sorry I can’t give U a hundred thumbs up, U deserve all of them. U ROCK this groove!🎉🎉
Thank you for laying this on my path! Gonna practice real hard now.
Well played Benny! Rocco is a genius! This is a masterpiece!
I enjoyed watching this.
What is Hip? What is HARD? This bassline for one. Impressive work Benny! Thank you for the inspiration and help. Maybe one day I can do this one.
Great cover, thanks a lot.

Good job except for the G# in the verse, which Rocco did not play.

Tough one? 😂 nice job 👍🏻
Definitely. But so fun to play. Thank you!

I challenge you with «i got a woman» by John Mayer with the man himself on the bass: Pino Palladino
From the Try! concert with the trio
LOVE that version. Challenge accepted! Thanks.
Nice! You should do ‘Love Lies Bleeding’
Love it! Elton was just in my home town of Toronto yesterday.
