What is Clubhouse and why is it suddenly everywhere? (via The Guardian)
Part talkback radio, part conference call, part Houseparty, Clubhouse is a social networking app based on audio-chat. Users can listen in to conversations, interviews and discussions between interesting people on various topics - it is just like tuning in to a podcast but live and with an added layer of exclusivity.
Clubhouse is invite only. You can’t just download it off the app store and create an account. Much like a real-life country or yacht club, you have to be invited to join by an existing member. Real world elitism, but make it virtual.
When you join, you select topics of interest, like tech, books, business or health. The more information you give the app about your interests, the more conversation rooms and individuals the app will recommend you follow or join.
The conversation room is just like a conference call, but with some people on the call talking, and most listening in. And, just like a phone call, once the conversation is over, the room is closed. Unlike Twitch - where live streamed videos stay on the platform for people to return to and watch - the live audio-chats had in conversation rooms disappear. (However, this doesn’t stop users from recording the live conversation. A UA-cam user, for instance, live-streaming a conversation room launched by Elon Musk).

I agree with the name change. The Colin and Samir Show 👍🏼
One thing I love about the show is that you edit the show differently between the audio platforms and UA-cam. I always find it frustrating listening to podcasts that have such a visual element. You guys edit the show to make it optimized for each platform, and I LOVE it.
I've been living on Clubhouse for the past week straight and the first thing I'll say is I can't wait til the younger people come in cuz damn it's starting to get dull in those rooms 👴🏻. Aside from the flood of marketers selling themselves, there were some real connections I've made on there last week I otherwise would have never had a conversation with (ie. Todd the UA-cam dev). Regardless, I think its amazing how this is the first social media platform to blow up because of old people. That's never happened in history. I'm excited about it and I can't wait to see how people innovate in this app. In other words, I'm tired of these "MILLIONAIRE MASTERCLASS" rooms and I'm waiting for the stuff I never could have thought up myself.
What about monetization? Paid clubs? Paid events? Independently sponsored events by the room hosts (same how podcasters do it). Anyway… lots to see. I just hope it doesn't stay the way it is. Another great podcast guys kudos!

I found it super interesting that Mountain Dew had a call to action via social media (“first one to tweet how many bottles were in this commercial gets a million bucks”), I think that that is genius because now it’s creating advertisement in people’s timelines as well as on their screen
You guys have such a nice voice for podcasting.
Love the idea of changing the name to The Colin and Samir Show. I have a podcast about interior design and we just called it ‘the show’ rather than ‘the podcast’ because it feels bigger and feels right for what we are talking about and how we deliver the content.

Would love to hear your more thoughts about 2021 YT predictions. Something like what kind of channels you think will grow-and what kind of channels will start to die out. It seems (aside from gaming) Mr. Beast and Airrack were some of the stars of 2020. They obviously have similar channels. Do you think there will be more blow-ups of 'big stunt' UA-camrs or is there something else? I am seeing a lot more 'profesh' podcasts happening (studio, multicamera, etc.) and I'm consistently watching a few of them from start to finish (like urs). Could be a rise to that. I can see highschool/college kids that get a small following re-invest into having nicer studios/gear/etc now that they're learning from their idols.
I love the show. The show you did with Airrack is the first episode I saw and I been a fan every since.

You talk a lot in this episode about the money spent on a single 30 sec ad in the Super Bowl could be spent instead with creators. I like the concept, but as a marketer for a brand I would love to hear more about how that would work and how a brand might go relinquishing it’s control of the message and the delivery of the message taking this approach compared with a traditional TVC.
Can you talk through an example of what that might look like in practice?

When public speaking don't overthink it. Just act like it's just you and your friend speaking. When I start to get nervous this helps me.
Great show, again. I barely watch anything longer than 10-15 minutes on UA-cam, but these episodes just fly by.
I think you have much more flexibility on the format if you call it the Colin and Samir Show, and not Podcast.

I think "The Colin and Samir Show" doesn't distinguish it enough from your main channel. Why couldn't one of your videos on the main channel fall under that title? Whereas the "Podcast" really distinguishes it. Similar to how other youtube first podcasts like h3h3 happily differentiate by including "podcast" in the title. Also I listened (and didn't watch) your last episode and it totally translated perfectly to audio only.
p.s. im a big fan. a lot of your videos have inspired me and feel like they're walking me through starting to publish my own content. Thanks
I've seen this other app Stereo do a multitude of sponsorships across UA-cam, and the platform seems really similar. But it's very mysterious, the app came out of nowhere with an insane marketing budget. I can't get away from it...

Ive been fascinated by clubhouse but have yet to get that invite 😢. Interest to see where it goes and if it starts getting traction in more then just business and in the entertainment/pop culture spheres since if it can gain reliance then Gen Z will be there and if Gen Z will be there it’ll have no problem developing an image.
