My Mom (88) and I (60) have been binge watching “Gardners World” on Brit box in Canada. We made an observation about the gardeners. Most of them have either a dog, cat,or both. Thank goodness I have two cats,so my garden will be very successful. Heather💜
That’s so true 😂 they’re the ultimate garden helpers!!
I went to a local garden center this week where I’d never been. As I walked amongst the many, many lovely “cottage garden” flowers they had in trays, I could hear you in my head, saying each of the names of the flowers! So many I’d never heard of before I found your channel. Thank you so much for introducing me to flowers- I plant veggie gardens enough to feed an army, but now I’m finding room for beautiful blooms as well.
Your garden will be so pretty with all these seedlings. It's so nice to have a green house
It’s so nice!! Can’t wait to see how they turn out now 😍
YAY! A CATHERINE FIX!! 🎉😊
😆🥰
Thank you for showing the birds in your garden. I love birds in the garden! Looking forward to seeing your garden grow.
The birdsong in the morning is the most calming 😍
@@DaintyDiaries Yes! I put seeds out for them each morning to attract as many as possible. 😍
Hi Catherine, you’re garden videos always bring me immense joy. Thank you for sharing your lovely garden updates. ✨🌷
Aw so kind ❤️ thank you x
Thank you for the shot of the robin at the beginning. Great job as usual❤
You are so industrious! Your garden will be beautiful! Laurie
☺️ thank you x
It's going to be so beautiful! Great inspiration for me to get my act together.
It’s been hard to get motivated to get outside isn’t it 😁 all that rain ☔️
Hi Catherine can’t wait to see your flowers all in bloom. Love to hear and see all the birds in the garden. I feed the birds daily so relaxing to hear them singing
Me too!! That bird sound while looking out into the garden is good for the soul 🩷
I’m in west Tx, zone 8b, and just got my veggie garden planted out this week. We’ve had warm enough days, but the wind has been terrible and has delayed me. Those tender tomato, pepper, cucumber, zucchini, and green bean seedlings won’t survive 30mph wind gusts. I got my potatoes planted as well and have been hilling them up almost constantly bc they’re growing so fast lol. I’ve direct sowed my corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, artichoke, snap peas, dill, oregano, onions, and basil so hope to see their little heads popping thru next week. I have a ton of flowers that I’ve started that will go into the flower garden soon. I planted some hollyhocks last yr, and they’re already four feet tall in the garden. I’ve got some hollyhock seedlings to go out in a different garden bed along with zinnias, salvia, gomphrena, cosmos, geraniums, sweet peas, calendula, and nasturtiums. The gomphrena is an annual that grows quite large and showy, and it always has ppl stop and ask me what they r if I’m outside. It’s a wonderful feeling looking at ur garden knowing u planted most of it by seed, and a tiny little seedling turned into huge plants lol! Best of luck to u, Catherine, as u get ur seedlings going!! I’m sure ur garden will be beautiful bc it always is!! Much love and happy gardening! ❤️💐
You’re so right it’s the most amazing feeling looking out at your garden in bloom! It sounds like you’ve done an incredible job 👏❤️ thanks for sharing!!
🌺❤️🌺 what a beautiful garden it will be with all you flowers , love your greenhouse , so curious about the bees 🐝
Hopefully I will have bees in May, the weather has been really poor so the place I get the native bees from might not have as many strong nucs 🐝
Lovely day in the green house 🌷🌴🤠
Great video. Thank you for sharing. An ironing board with adjustable height is also a good ledge to germinate seeds, either widening a window sill inside or for use in a greenhouse. When done, it can be easily folded away.
I almost forgot the moonflower and jasmine and 5 new roses in addition to the 6 roses I already had!!! It’s going to smell like heaven here and I’m so excited!!
It’s going to be beautiful 😍😍😍
Two of my favourites, Zinnias and Cosmos. Compostable pots are so convenient.
Love your vlogs❤
Greetings from Germany 🤗 Just found your channel a few days ago and I loooove your videos 💝🍀🌷
Awww yayyy welcome!! ❤️❤️
I always love having a peek inside your garden ❤
I’m growing so many of the same things!! Sweet peas, cosmos, calendula(strawberry blonde), lupines, honesty, nasturtium, hollyhocks, larkspur, and sweet alyssum! Can’t wait to see all your new flowers!!
You’ve been busy too!! I can’t wait to see them now and hope your garden blossoms beautifully too 😍
Try your soil block tool again, once you get the hang of it they are awesome! Key is to getting the soil moisture right when using the tool 👍 they go directly in the ground with no root disturbance,
The weather is just starting to warm up here in Ontario - Im busy raking and edging all the beds now. Then i will fertilize and add mulch. I just plant all my flower seeds in the ground. I plant Cosmos and Zeinas in the ground. Everything usually comes up.
You’re keeping busy! No doubt it will turn out fab ❤️😍
Today I planted Calendula, celosia, bunny tails, gompherna, straw flowers, white and blue borage, sahara rudbeckia, and Precious Metals Zinnias. (Zinnias are from Floret Flower Farm which is a coveted seed here in the US)
Love Gomphrena and Celosia! I have some seedlings of them I started that I’m about to put out in the garden next week!
Girl, my cosmos look the same! 😂 I can never seem to keep them happy!
Thank you so much for the video.. love them all. I'm behind this year but i did manage to sow holly hocks and foxglove
I live on the NW coast of England and we have had so much rain and low temps I have to re sow all my flowers. Well except one tray but when my "greenhouse" almost blew away with Storm Kathleen my pots were all soak and drowning and over my garden. I was so disheartened. So I've held off. Waited for my garden to show signs of waking up. I'm trying your suggestions this year and more flowers. (Can't have too many..right?)
*Next year a real greenhouse ❤
I'm a bit behind but so enjoyed that video, Catherine. I bought sweet pea plants when I saw them in Lidl as I've not got to sowing them yet. I'll get there, everything is late this year.
Yes, so true, I do feel like things are behind
Beautiful and inspiring vlog, Thanks
1/2grass+1/2leaves
About the mulch, I've always been told to make sure you have equal parts grass and leaves.
Dead leaves contribute carbon to the mix
Grass cotributes nitrogen.
The two, when aged to perfection ... you'll know when ... are a delightful gourmet treat for your garden!
Hope this helps, as it's easy to remember, develop, and apply!
I sow my sunflower seeds every year I love them. Your garden is looking so green and flowery it's looking very healthy 😊😊😊❤
April 22nd cannot come soon enough!
Very new green thumb here but going to try and sow some sweet peas with my Kindergarten class, thanks for the tips in this weeks video 😊
I've transplanted sweet peas, poppies, and snapdragons along with tomatoes! It wiil be 90F here next Tuesday.😅 I have peonies, dianthus, and evergreens that need to be planted in the flowerbeds. Hooray for spring!🎉
Woo well done!!! Your garden will be gorgeous no doubt 😍
Love your Garden Vlogs☺️
I’m trying zinnias for the first time this year. Hopefully I’ll get them started this weekend along with some sunflowers and rainbow carrots that I’ll do with the kids. I’ve just potted on some rudbeckia and I also have lots of dahlia seeds doing well. I just love this time of year.
Lovely to see the robin xx
This video was so beautiful, encouraging , down-to-earth.. LOVED IT. Thank you. I love seeing your beautiful garden and greenhouse. I’m going into winter now but just feel ‘spring like’ watching this 🥰☀️
Aw thanks so much ❤️❤️ so sweet of you! Thanks for stopping by and hope you’ve a fab weekend xx
I can't wait to see your garden this year!!
Putting the sailboat on the market this year so I won't be growing a garden on her. :( Just my herbs...I'm really looking forward to having a greenhouse and garden so I can be gardening along with you. :)
The herbs will be great to have though!❤️
Thanks Catherine…a wonderful video…I’ve been using the insides of toilet rolls - have been saving them all winter (which is quite revealing when you count them up🤣) instead of the compostable pots, to attempt to drive costs down 💋
Thanks so much for all the gardening tips 😊
I'm imagining all the flower arrangements you'll be making. Flowers in every room of the house! Your garden will be gorgeous and the bees well fed! Do you swap seedlings with Karen?
A lovely video 🌺🌸🌹🌷
I cant wait to see the flowers blooming. We are going into autumn winter now so I am going to try sweet peas again. Last year was a flop😢
I hope you have better luck this time around!!
this is such a wonderful video ☺☺
Wow love the green house. So many seeds. It’s going to be amazing.
I’m behind this year not sown any seeds, hopefully get some done this weekend 😊
Love the jazz piano music while you’re planting in the greenhouse ❤
Aw thanks, I’ve been trying to play around with music and find calm music to go along with it ❤️
Nice seed sewing. Lots of flowers coming. Thanks again for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Yes I’m with you about wondering how cost effective gardening can be when it comes to sowing seeds & all the things it entails vs buying the plants ready to go. I think it may be good to do a bit of both because I agree you can’t get the variety in the garden shops that you can from the variety of seeds. I’m always looking at the clearance section at the big box store & today I found several trays of Proven Winner petunias & several pots of verbena…all purple so I grabbed them up. Yesterday I direct sowed my zinnia & cosmos seeds. I’m not good at starting seeds indoors …just have no luck with that but outdoors never fails. (I wonder if a greenhouse would help? Hmmmm. lol)😂
Yay! 🌸❤️
So so excited for my book!!! I'm in Michigan and haven't sowed yet but need to soon!!
For your wildflower seeds, try mixing them with sand and then broadcast seed them. The sand will help evenly distribute the seeds. Something for you to try in the future.
I have just sown my veggies, radishes, tomatoes, peppers, and onions. Also herbs like dill, thyme, basil and rosemary. My sweet peas aren’t looking good but my bachelor buttons and poppies are doing well. Love watching things grow💕
Sweet peas aside it sounds like it’s all come together for you 🌸😍
Finally watching live. It’s lovely to see the sun out isn’t fellow Dairies xx
In Catherine’s garden I mean!
So satisfying seeing the greenhouse filled with seed trays 😊 I started too soon I think with growing Aquilegia. Over a month on the sunniest kitchen window and nothing. I was talking to a horticulturalist out in the saw mills and said to try putting them in the hot press. That they need heat more than light at this stage. I'm loving the extra light in day and getting cracking with doing stuff. That's a mighty tip about the ready break. I've pinhead oats there, I wonder if that would do the same job. I got a wild irish native seed mix, 50g and I thought maybe sand but don't want to be buying extra stuff. My father used to keep bees. I'm so looking forward to watching how you get on. Dad use get us to do little jobs like making frames, cleaning old jam jars and let us watch him using the smoker thingy lol. But my favourite thing was when the honeycomb was just left on the big platter in the middle of the kitchen table and smearing the honey on homemade soda bread 😋
I did aquileagea from seed and they flowered in the second year, foliage in the first 🌱❤️
Love how your greenhouse is looking ❤ can’t wait to see all your flowers grow 🌼🌻. I’ve got my cosmos and sweet pea seedlings up some calendula also just waiting for the sun to shine and temperatures to rise. Hopefully the weather will improve soon. Looking forward to getting your new book in a few weeks 🙌🏻🙌🏻.love from the sunny southeast! 🥰💚
You can use egg shells to sow seeds too. Just break the bottom before planting the saplings.
Egg container made of cardboard/ paper can also be used.
Girlie your garden is going to look stunning when they start to bloom. I'll be planting my fave sunglowers, and four o'clocks...🙃
I loved this video. You’re my garden inspiration! My tulips have not done well this year. Going to try again though!!
Can’t wait to have a greenhouse one day. I have zinnias, cosmo, marigold, calendula, strawflower, verbena, scabiosa, dragonhead, sunflower, tomato, chili and beans going right now. Happy gardening season y’all
Sounds like you already have a great collection!!
Book pre ordered can't wait love your other book
Eeek hope you love it!! Thanks so much 🩷🩷
Looking good all coming together nicely…. I can’t wait to see it all in full bloom xx
Me too!! My favourite time 🌸🩷
What a coincidence I’m doing Zinnias, cosmos, and sunflowers too! It’s my first time doing cosmos and I’m so excited.
I’m also trying tickseed, aster, coneflower and phlox. I’ve had great luck with Zinnias so I’m trying some new varieties year. Thank you for sharing your garden with us! Much love from Texas ❤
Coneflowers are troopers! I have some flowering in the buckets from last year,
I must try some more 🌱
Like you have much more seedlings then last year. I hope most of them survive .. (especially the slugs waiting for them 😅). I have plants everywhere - what would I give for a green house. I love yours so much! I saw sweet peas the other day for EIGHT €. No thanks! 🙄 Thankfully I have my own almost ready to go! I also have sown Soapswort in blush ((Saponaria vaccaria), Cosmos of course, Poppies, Larkspur, Boretsch and a few more. Happy Gardening everybody!
I’ve used compostable pots from Poundland etc and I’ve made them from newspaper, I’ve also used egg cartons …. I grow mainly vegetables but you may have inspired me to grow some annuals! First year this year with a greenhouse so fairly excited for that I must admit 😂
God gave you a green thumb, and courage.💕💕💕
🙏🏼
The flowers are going to be so pretty. I did all mine last week & already they're germinating 😊 I love Zinnia's last year I did a packet of mixed, this year I wanted something a bit different colour wise so I sent off for a beautiful lime green Zinnia, White & a beautiful bright orange. I snippet the tops off last year to get a bit thicker plant. xx
Oohh yayy well done!!🌸
I use root trainers for my seeds which are similar to the gadget you had. They are fairly sturdy plastic and last for a few years. They shape a perfect seedling ready for planting xx
I have two trays of calendula growing after watching you and Karen last year , I thought I would give them a go and they are going great guns. My sweet peas are all from last years seeds and they are going mad.
Yesterday I planted up my veg take 2 as the pigeons got take one so I've made a perspex cover to stop them .
Just love this time of year.
I am so looking forward to receiving your new book to go with the first one xxc
Aw me too love spring time and when the garden is coming into bloom! Thanks for ordering the book aw I hope you love it 🩷
I started cleaning up all the branches that came. down during the winter then got 8 more inches of snow, haven't started any seeds as I can't put them out until the end of May. Your garden is beautiful
Fingers crossed you will get lots of lovely flowers, I’ve been in a flower growing mood this year too, as well as my usual veg, I need another greenhouse now.😂❤️
😁 relatable, so easy to run out of space with all the seedlings 🌱
Hi Catherine your garden will be beautiful I can’t get anything done because of constant rain,I’d love a greenhouse have a lovely weekend 😊
Oh no what a nightmare! I hope the rain settles!!! We all deserve some sun and time in the garden ❤️
I've planted Cosmos cupcake after seeing them on gardeners world!
Oh that will be gorgeous!!
Hi Catherine, it’s going to look blooming glorious, an array of colour! It has been such a long wet autumn/winter here and there is still no let up yet, the garden is a sodden mess😂 hoping for some drier weather to sort the mess out. I love Cosmos and sweet peas, and looking forward to the bluebells to flower, yearning for spring. Suze. 🤗 xx
Hoping for some dryer weather for you too Suze! Thanks for stopping by 🌸🤍
My son and I planted a bunch of annual flowers this spring in preparation for my upcoming wedding. I’m trying to grow as many flowers by seeds instead of buying them to save money.
Aw I LOVE this, a bouquet from your garden 🌱
Your garden is going to be amazing, you work so hard I can’t wait to see it! I preordered my book a couple of months ago and I am looking forward to seeing it!
Aww thanks so much for pre ordering!! I hope you love it ❤️
@@DaintyDiaries I know I will! ❤️
Just ordered your second book yippee 🎉
Thanks so much!! Hope you love it loads!!
Visiting my son in London. Gardens around have tulips and other beautiful bulbs looking stunning. I just take any plants or seeds back home due to strict Australian quarantine restrictions 😔
Oh no that’s a shame!!!
Thanks for the video! It’s reassuring to know that I’m not alone in my cosmos not really germinating also 😂
So jealous of your success with Zinnias Catherine! Hope your flower mix from Connecting to Nature work! 🤞I had great success with their sunflowers 🌻 💛
Yea zinnias can be tricky ones. I found not moving them helped last year. So seed to the ground and no thinning out in between 🌱
@@DaintyDiaries I'll give it another go so! 🤞🤞
Hi Catherinev- the Cosmos that hasn't done very much, slide the tray into a plastic bag and leave in greenhouse and they will probably do better. I sewed mine in March, in trays likes yours, slid the tray into a plastic bag and they all come up and are quite big now. You have nothing to loose with the first batch do give them a go. x
Great tip! Will try ❤️
im trying to do a cottage garden as well. i really loved your old video where you used an ikea table and turned it pink as a potting working area. i no longer see it. did it went bad? im considering purchasing it. thank you! youre my inspiration :3
Use egg boxes to do your seedlings they compost in the ground too
I try to use only square pots in seed trays either compostable or plastic. They fit better and are more stable if you want to move the tray about.
I'm trying to grow Dahlias, sweet peas, snap dragons and coneflowers atm. Hoping that they come through for me :)
Fab vlog as always. Where did you get your seed storage from please? 🌸🌸🌸
Hello Catherine, great seed set up, I have started cabbage, peas, beans, cosmo, and a few others. I have a real problem with squirrels they dig and destroy my seed plantings. Sp crossing my fingers. See you soon
Oh nooo those pesky squirrels!! I wonder if there’s sound you can do to deter them! Hope they stop bothering your garden but sounds like you’re growing quite the selection 🌸🩷
Yay, seed sowing. You'll have so many it looks like. What camera do you use to shoot your pictures for the book or on general? I'm a crochet designer and need a new camera for pictures for the pattern tutorial. Thx
I'm hoping I can do bees next year. The family signed up for classes this spring. ❤❤❤
I have two cameras, a canon 6D mark 2, and a Sony ZV-10 x
Oh how I wish I had a green house 😊 I am trying to grow sweet peas. How do you pitch them? Love your personality and videos 🤗
Hey, thank you! I just cut them with the finger above a leaf node.
Catherine, what do you cover the seedlings with? What kind of fertilizer? I worked in my greenhouse , too and prepared annualas like deliahs, gladiolas and others. I also grew salad and cabbage turnip and sew radish. Beans and peas I sew in my house. Onions are growing in my raised bed already. This weekend I'm putting the potatoes into the bags.
Good luck for all your seedlings.🌱🫶
It’s vermiculite, it helps to aerate soil while also keeping all of the water and nutrients locked in! 🌸
@@DaintyDiaries Thanks, Catherine.🙋♀️
The calendula fight all kinds of chewing insects. They don’t like the taste or smell, but I like them!
Agh thanks for that! Il fot them around the garden 🪴
*dot
Hi, I am going to sow seedlings for the first time this year. I see you put layer of soil followed by a layer of ...? Then soil again, planted the seeds then covered with ....?
I recently discovered your channel and am loving it! Just need to remember 😂😂 that I am in a different season zone - in Cape Town South Africa.
You are inspirational!
It’s vermiculite, it helps to aerate soil while also keeping all of the water and nutrients locked in! 🌸
I've sowed: broccoli, tomatoes, lettuce, canna lilies, cantaloupe, loofah, marigolds. Next week will be zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, and watermelon.
Well done 🌱🌱🌱🌱 that’s some great sowing
Your greenhouse looks like mine! I've sown sweet peas, cosmos, snapdragons, calendula, nicotiana, zinnias and lupins....so far! I remember you sowing Teasels last year. It said on my packet they're biennial, so are they coming up this year? Would be interested to know Catherine. x
Yes, there is growth already on them this year! So hopefully some flowers
I’ve sewn Sweet Peas in my germination box but i haven’t had much luck so far. Just one or two. I live in Western Australia so maybe it’s our weather. Although I have 5 self sewn ones in the pot i planted 2 I managed to grow from seed last year 😂 nature is having better luck with them than me 😂 plants love doing their own thing ❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi ya from the real capital 😂. I have sowed some coneflower, dwarf sunflowers, nearly everything is dwarf and loads more. Planted a tiny wisteria tree last oct and it has buds I’m so excited. Any tips on stopping cats from using my garden as a toilet. Have tried everything I think. Just planted 6 curry plants🤷♀️..
❤
I'm just starting my own first garden and you are such an inspiration for me! Could you please tell me what kind of substance you put on your seedling containers after putting the seeds in? Is it some kind of fertilizer? Thank you so much in advance 🌻
She was putting vermiculite on top of the seeds. It helps retain moisture w/o letting mold form on top of the soil from keeping the soil moist.
@@loricawley54 thank you so much for your explanation!
@@isabelleemde913 Yw!! Happy gardening!! 💐
