I tried day trading but found it time consuming and I was not able to beat my longterm stocks. Not risky as long as you have plenty diversity but that adds to the time consuming part.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree with you that it can be time consuming, especially in the first 3 months of day trading. Now, I get used to it and I am getting more efficient. It also changed my sleeping hours (because I am at the west coast, I have to get up early). In the last two months, if I do a 'buy-and-hold' strategy I would be coming out ahead. Most tech stocks are keeping on rising. My plan is to keep 1/3 of my investment in the long term, 1/3 for swing trades and 1/3 for day trading. During COVID, my long term portfolio has 55% gain. But last year, I didn't realize the gain and I ended up lost most of the money I made in 2020 & 2021. Glad I am retired and I have time to do this and without the stress of needing to go to work after trading in the morning. 🙂

Came for the Coroplast, stayed for all the other tips. Either way, I'm interested and here to learn!

I am working on the new coroplast boat video update next 🙂 My shoulder injury stopped me from working on my boats for the last three months (which is sad), and I need to keep my mind exercised. This is a good thing to try out in my life. Glad you like this topic too 🙂. Thanks for your support and feedback. Money doesn't solve all the problems, my doctor couldn't fix my broken shoulder. At least, money can solve part of my problems 🙂

Hello, I have been watching your boat videos from the beginning. Your method of designing and construction shows a lot of original thought and competence. I think your insights on investing would be just as interesting if not more.
I do not day trade. I don't have a lot of experience in investing. I have mostly mutual funds. Most of my funds were conservative. When the market crashed in 2008 and my conservative index funds seemed to lose just as much as everybody else. Many people said we were going to have a big depression and people should get out of the market. I was afraid of losing my money in the market. But I also knew if I took my money out. It would be difficult to figure out when to put it back in. What I did was reallocate. I diversified as much as possible. Some of my funds were large cap and biotech. But I also put a lot into energy and defense spending and chemical and mining stocks. Up until two years ago. The return was less than 8%. However, when the oil stocks went down even more. Three years ago I bought more. The Energy Service index fund was at a 40 year low. Investors hated fossil fuels. I love it when the market makes investment decisions based on how they feel. Instead of what is reality. The world still runs on fossil fuels.
In the last two years. The biotech and energy funds have been good to me. My worst investment was the mining stocks. I bought the index fund at the market high in 2011. However, I have refused to sell them as I see the mining stocks as an anchor in case investors lose all confidence.
I have only invested in index funds except for my first investment back in the 1980s. I invested in a penny stock for a very small amount and it turned out to be a fraud. The company was sued and I got back about $.40 on the dollar. I never bought another individual stock. However, I am thinking of doing it again. One stock that interests me is Toyota. Toyota has a very low PE. It is also one of the best run companies in the world. They recently made some very intelligent decisions about their product development and future. There are not too many companies that have stock that I want to buy and hold for a long time but Toyota might be the right one. I'm waiting for the market to go down before buying it.
Some people think the era of buying and holding stock is over. You might be doing the right thing by day trading. I was listing to Doug Casey giving an interview and he said it is difficult for the investor now because there are so many shenanigans going on in the market. The only way for a person to make money will be to be a speculator. I think there is money to be made in investing in companies that people dislike for illogical reasons
I will look for to hearing your investment experiences..

You are smart, you diversified your investment. I didn't learn during dot-com and I lost 2/3 of my money. I still didn't learn that during COVID and I lost $350K / day. Glad I have excellent tolerance to these situations and I still sleep well. In the past 9 months, I finally started to diversified my investments. This diversification strategy also applied to my Day Trading strategy. My investment strategy is still in a transition: portion of it will be invested for a longer term, the other half will be in Day Trading. Thanks for your feedback. This is a new topic and glad there are viewers interested in this topic. I will continue to share my learning. This year, I feel the 'aging process' is hitting me. I will be going thru minor surgeries and that will stop me from building boats for two months. I will spend more time on this Day Trading stuffs. As I am getting my hands dirty on this trading, I realize I can learn writing software to automate and guide me to invest. This could minimize some human errors and also emotional involvement in trading. This will be keep me busy also. Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback... I watched many youtube videos on day trading. Most of them are really good materials, yet, they are still missing a few important points which I observed in my hands on practices. I will share that in my future videos. Your feedback provided me a good guidance on what kind of videos useful to viewers like you. Thanks again.

I have not tried to day trade but I am interested in learning. I do option trading selling covered calls and puts (wheel strategy). Usually 1 or 2 week contracts. Thank you for the great video.

My brother, sister and myself all decided to learn day trading in early Dec. last year. We all watched different day trading videos on youtube. We used the simulated mode on Thinkorswim to learn the user interface of that trading platform. We didn't try paper trading (not much fun). By the middle of Dec., each of us use a few thousand dollars and tried the charting and trading techniques we have learned. We all made $5, $10, $15 with the test trades and we were all very happy with the experience. Then by Jan, 2023, we started to try different trading techniques, buying different stocks, including those 3x ones: TQQQ, TZA, SQQQ, etc. We have different stock trading background and experience. My sister used to listen to me which stocks to buy and sell only. But now, she learned charting by herself. We all learned the techniques by ourselves. We do share daily which stocks have potential for trading via whatsapps. In Jan. I have learned sufficient knowledge to use the basic features of the trading platform to do more trades. I experimented with risk management, etc. and actually come up with a different approach that works for me (since I don't have a margin account - not planning to get one to minimize the risk of over spending). I also come up with a different and comprehensive investing strategies. Which is more conservative, may make less money. But if I can generate 10K/week, I don't mind to make less money. Day Trading is a skill, it is lucky that I come from engineering and I know most of the tech companies, some were my customers, some were my suppliers. Every trading day is a learning experience and I do make daily mistakes. I plan to share what I have learned in a video series that will help other beginners to be successful in Day Trading. Cheers!

Your channel already suited a shocking percentage of my interests, but this is a great addition! I don’t have the capital to day trade yet (just turned 25 & am 2 years into my career), but have dabbled in swing trading a few times in recent years and plan to continue learning. It’s hard to find videos on this topic that aren’t pushing scams or some other agenda, but it’s abundantly clear that you’re genuine. I would absolutely watch more videos about your investment/trading philosophy and experiences. Very glad to have found your channel!

When I came to US, I have only $700. I worked full time while I was attending college and graduate school so as to cover my expenses. During Dot-com, I lost 2/3 of my savings. Glad I have a good job and I never worry much even I lost a lot of money. That's part of the tuition I paid (in stock trading) 🙂It is nice that you can start young and learn investing. Today there are tons of information on-line that will help you. Most of us started with a few hundred dollars. Learning how to invest is more important than how much you have on hand to trade. This is a new topic on my channel and thanks for your feedback. Knowing there are viewers interested in this topic and I will continue sharing my learning on my channel. Thanks for your support.
