FireBoard 2 Review - BBQ Thermometer

- We're going in depth with the FireBoard 2 BBQ thermometer and temperature controller. We ran the FireBoard 2 though 10 tests starting with a cold Kamado Joe Big Joe or Kamado Joe Jr. and setting the temp to 225 degrees. The FireBoard 2 performed flawlessly almost each time getting the grills up to temp in 15-30 minutes using the FireBoard branded fan. The battery supply for the FireBoard 2 is a game changer in not needing AC power for up to 30 hours. We got a max runtime of about 20 hours on our FireBoard 2 with the fan connected. Overall we highly recommend the FireBoard 2 over the iKamand if you have a Kamado Joe or Big Green Egg. #Review

This review is exactly what i was looking for. I wanted to see how to mount the fan as well as the info on the vent positioning. This should honestly be a video that Fireboard does for their site. So informational! The tips on the probe positioning were really helpful as well

Awesome review! I purchased this unit online from a local store just prior to watching this review because we need to smoke summer sausage tomorrow and I needed something to help control the temperature and monitor the meat. I'm actually waiting for my wife to bring it home from the store now and watching this video was icing on the cake for using this with my Big Green Egg. Like you, I have a Large and a Mini unit. We do a lot of cooking on the Mini unit since it's usually just my wife and I. I was planning to make an adapter, but from the sounds of it, I won't have to. Thanks for the effort and great content in this review! I look forward to using the product.

Thanks for doing this, I have my Big Joe III on order and was looking at different temp controllers and the FireBoard 2 was on the list. Been watching you for a few months now, great to have someone from the area doing this type of content, we are from River Ridge.
Did the adapter fit your big jo 3 or did you have to bend to make it fit

Thanks for this review, Fireboard 2 looks way ahead of the competition. I thought I'd have to wait for an iKammand or Billows update and rerelease for temp control on my Kamado Joe. Not anymore!

I’ve followed you about the KJ ikommand. I’ve been interested when I get back from deployment am getting a KJ. I may now have to consider this fire board. I think the battery power sold me but certainly looking for more reviews from you and others.

Thank you. Drive program is interesting… Similar to ramp mode on my unit… just more control. I’ve been using a DigiQ for 11 yrs… was looking to upgrade so I can have wireless control/notifications.

Great review, lots of good information. I used Ikamand very successfully right up until they stopped support, now it’s just a brick :(. Going out today to get a Fireboard 2 Pro, and will test it on my first 20 hour brisket cook on Dec 30. Your review gives me confidence that I am going to love the Fireboard, which is appreciated when spending $600.00 CAD on a smoker accessory. Keep up the great videos!

Great video. Just received my big joe this week. I’ve been watching your videos and updates and was getting ready to pull the trigger on the ikamand 2 until I just saw this video. If I’m only using on the BJ, what would you say are the benefits of getting this over the ikamand? I might have to wait now and do more research.
Using mine now for the first time I attached the ambient probe onto the Kamado Jo temp seems to be working fine

Looks like I need to change controllers as the one I have is difficult to connect to my phone. The worst part is I paid over $300.00 for it. My son who is great with phones and computers had a hard time connecting it. Excellent review.

Great review! I bought the Drive 2 and fan right after Christmas and used it this weekend for the first time. I'm guessing that I need to shut the top vent a little more or relocate the probe, because it was drifting 20-30 degrees higher than where I set it. But I think there's some great potential and I'm looking forward to using it on a lot more cooks.
Also don’t forget to play with limiting the fan speed. I never let my fan get above 40%. YMMV but definitely experiment with it.

I have a PartyQ with my Akorn. If I was to set at 225 and walk away, it would be over 300 and I'd be unable to get it back unless I waited hours. The Akorn does hold heat more than a typical kamado though. I usually set it to 140 now and go back outside in about 20 minutes and move it up.

Thanks for the kind words. It hasn’t gotten in my way at all and I’ve never even thought about it. Could just be the way that I interact with the grill but no issues so far.

Great content! I like that fireboard.
On the Masterbuilt Gravity, the BBQ HQ says 100% to get to temp, the back it down to 40% to maintain temp. I just got a Kettle Joe (for 150) and I plan on testing it while my Masterbuilt Gravity is out of commission waiting for new parts.

The temp controls features and the battery power is nice. I just wished it didn’t protrude so much. I’m a sucker for aesthetics and to me the iKamand integrates into the grill a lot better (assuming you only want it for your kamado Joe). Fireboard trip/break hazard???

So is the only additional feature of the drive over the regular FireBoard 2 that it will power the fan as well?
Looks like a solid temp controller. I have a Kamado Joe Big Joe 2. Been using Meater Plus for over a year now. Love it but it does have small quirks such as losing signal when you sometimes close the lid or walk back into the house. Looking for a 2nd temp controller. Since you already own the Fireboard 2 Pro your answer may be a bit bias to my question, which is perfectly ok, but would you go with the Fireboard 2 Pro, the Tappecue Touch, or the Thermoworks ThermaQ WiFi High Temp Kit? Thanks for your help.
This could be a dumb question, but is it best to go by the pit temp/ probe..... or the dome temp?
