I just replaced both belts on my lx420 yesterday with help from your video. Thanks for showing the bolt that separates the belt as mine was missing and I wouldn't have known there was supposed to be one. Thanks for the help
Thanks I have a Craftsman 247.288843 LT2000 with same belts and CV transmission pulleys. The process appears to be what I have to do to get mine rebuilt. I have some concern on the main belt as the manual says 90.8 inches yet the replacements belts (Amazon) are 90.5 inches. I hope that the shorter belt is within tolerances or that the linkage for the drive pedal is adjustable. There seems to be no written instructions from Craftsman on how to change these, simply an instruction to call a Sears service center. It is a crazy design.
This was a good video and helped a lot. I have a LX426 so there are some differences but nothing too drastic. Where your belts slipped into place easily mine required removing the pully for the upper belt. Thanks for the help!
Glad to hear that. Also I recommend changing PTO cable if you find that mower looses cutting power and runs slower when height adjustment is lowered to position 1 or 2 and works with full power at higher settings. PTO cable visually looks good but is the culprit for this issue.
to remove the body pan= there is a nut under each foot pan, have to unbolt peddles, unbolt seat, pull off rear lever handles, and feel around-there are two small bolts hidden under the big sticker on middle of pan floor (in front of seat on floor), then body pan will lift off!
Thanks! BTW the fuse behind the fuel tank was blown on mine too and the replacement blew out soon. I found some wet grass in that connector to the head lights causing a short.
For benefits of viewers I want to share that i was facing issue of spindles, blades running slower at lower height of deck . Finally issue got resolved on replacing PTO cable and adding greese to spindles. PTO cable was the root cause.
Sonething no one is saying in any videos on this tractor is, the transmission belt pulley has 3-10mm shèet metal screws just above the rear axel. Just loosen them enough and it will pivot away from the main belt guide which makes the PTO belt easy to put on the rear pulley. Once its on the lower pulley half, you can tighten the 3 - 10mm screws back down. Then reattatch the top smaller belt. I had to heat the PTO pulley bolt cherry red with a.MAP gas torch to get it out. Took about 15 minutes of constant heat, then the impact. By the way its a fine thread right handed bolt. Left loose, righty tighty.
Remove short belt to get long belt on/off, just pull on spring loaded pully and remove short belt from 2 pullys, no need to remove large battery pully bolt. Front pully bolt may be pulled by removing spark plug and stuffing a section of rope into spark plug hole. This stops piston and then pully bolt will come off.
Thanks i have been replacing these belts for years now i have an easier way. If you want to take off the deck may be the best way is to download a blue print of the more it is quiet the job. Thanks again
was sold a "fully serviced" Toro lx 500. Well it bogs to the point it wont move, has a whining sound & then the gas peddle goes limp with no spring back. . I could smell belt , or something of a similar at one time as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It is really difficult to recommend anything however assuming engine and transmission are running issue can be on belts. Deck belt routing around brakes is one area where most mistakes happen. I have uploaded a video on deck belt and one on transmission belt replacement. Watch both carefully and see if both belts are properly fitted on your mower.
@@VijayBhalla @V B I'm looking into the pulley, and deck belt & this has two belts I'm assuming the other is a tranny belt. I'm going to replace all . Been informed by most that that is the issue. hey! Thank you ! .

I am glad that you found the video helpful. Do replace PTO cable too if you see that deck blades loose speed at lower height.

Quick tip. Get a shop vac or compressor to get rid of the grass it the pulley area. Will be easier to find bolts if you lose them.
Another quick tip. I paused the video and did a screenshot of the belt numbers from the package. Makes cross referencing them easier.

btw, to remove the fender, there are screws under the rubber slip pads and two under the decal.

What is the length of the belt
Get the number of the belts he posted in the beginning. You can do an internet search to cross-reference belts and or get the lengths.
Drive belt or long belt is 5/8” by 90 1/2”
