    have you been to NYC before? if so, how was your experience and can you think of any other pros/cons? if you haven't been to NYC, did this help you get a better sense of what the city is actually like? let's have a discussion below!

      I live in york and honestly idk if you experienced the bipolar weather it really annoys some people but other than that the convenience is the best here.things are expensive but like certain places are really good for just doing whatever.

      I was born in NYC :D
      I also have a fact about NYC that can be taken as either a pro or a con (I personally would say it's a con but that's only my opinion), and you probably already noticed this (but just to put it out there), there is *a lot* of jaywalking

    I remeber being in NYC I walked so much! I was afraid of it being too crowded with people but for my short stay it wasn't too bad after all. But I would probably feel diffrent about it in the long run.

    I like NYC because the city is really awesome to explore and Mey York, New York is by far the best city besides Chicago in the USA. I would love to go there to travel and explore new places I've never seen before. Again I do hope you had a good time there. =3

    As someone whose lived in nyc for the last 14 years (and is going to RPI next year !!GO RED!!). I love and hate nyc. The obvious: it’s the largest city in the us and there is EVERYTHING. You can bike through busy bronx streets into calm and beautiful Randall’s island. Go along crazy 2nd ave and see the Brooklyn bridge. Then go through quiet parts of Brooklyn and queens. It has everything. You see everything. So if you wanna try something new. It’s great. But; it is rude and dirty and desensitizes you. Sure you have a thick skin. But you forget that there’s places where you don’t have to wake up at 5 in the morning to go on public transit for an hour and a half to go 9 miles to school or anywhere. The train is disgusting and homeless people begging for money just make you remember to put your head down and look at your phone when they pass by. Everyone is rude and would rather another persons car be wrecked than have to wait for them to move. There’s a lot of great things and I was fortunate to live in a beautiful quiet corner of nyc and go to one of the best high schools in the nation. But for me, I like being out with nature and people who can take a second to stop and help others and just not be in a constant mode of selfishness

    Lily, I'm so happy for you. You're young. You're smart. You will go far. I've been to NYC and it is addictive. And expensive. I loved it. I recently got married and in 2 weeks I'm moving to Ho Chi Minh City. It's much cheaper than NYC. Check it out sometime.

      Thanks for all your kind words! Congrats and I hope the move goes well! I’d love to visit Vietnam sometime, and just Asia in general. Hopefully my dominoes will take me there in the future!

    I went to Walt Disney World on my own five years ago so I can relate to things like being on your own schedule and how freeing it is. I could do incredibly nerdy things like play Miniature Golf and visit every hotel on property for instance.
    I really liked your NYC blog series. Your such an engaging person and I couldn't wait to see the next part

      BehindThe5 I live in Brooklyn, and I’ve got tons of friends and family in Queens, and a lot of the problems you were talking about (no space, little privacy) are not quite as bad in the other boroughs. I can’t fully vouch for Staten Island and the Bronx, but it’s bound to be better than Manhattan. Manhattan is the City tm, it’s crowded and expensive. And while the other boroughs are still a part of the city and can be also very expensive, depending on where you’re looking, certain regions of them are more akin to suburbia.
      My family, for example, lives in an area of Brooklyn called Flatlands and we regularly drive places, but my friends in Downtown Brooklyn don’t even own a car because they’re basically at the center of the public transit system in Brooklyn.
      There is, of course, the issue of public transportation. There are certain parts of the other borough that aren’t within walking distance of the trains. Generally, the farther away from the trains, the cheaper the rent. But you have a car, so your problem becomes finding parking instead, especially if you plan to commute into Manhattan regularly (you could always drive to the nearest train station though). Hope this was helpful, it makes me really sad when people want to move to nyc but end up not because Manhattan was too much, and could’ve just moved a little further out.

    I honestly went to NYC twice, it was fun but there were parts I hated. I honestly couldn’t wait to get back to Clearwater beach Florida where I live both times!!! I was jumping for joy when I got off the plane because I realized there’s so many great advantages in Florida that people just take for granted! I was so tired of walking in NYC I once walked for 8 hours in 20 degree weather hating life lol. I noticed a lot of the people there are ruder and in a rush and not as talkative and friendly as in Florida in my opinion. The fact of going on a subway to get to a train or multiple trains and vice Verssa confused the hell out of me because I’m bad with directions. I got lost several times and couldn’t get ahold of anyone to help me and it was very scary. The constant rushing gives me anxiety and stresses me out. And the constant shelling out large amounts of cash was stressing me out. I hate the cold, I hate the dirty air and smog smell, I was getting asthma. When I got off the plane back in Florida I was so relieved to take a deep breath of the clean smelling ocean air. The air in nyc felt dirty and heavy to me. Honestly yeah there’s lots of cool attractions and things but it’s a pain in the ass to get to lol I missed my car and I feel like there are just as many cool things to do in Tampa and Clearwater FL clubs beaches museums little art towns down town areas cultural historic cities honestly I’m never bored in Florida I meet new people everyday and they are much friendlier than the ones I met in NYC plus I can actually afford to go to all these events! My opinion it’s really not for me. Also I like to have a big room and a second room for my fashion and online store as I have a lot of stuff. I couldn’t live crammed up with roommates.

      You seem to know what you like and that’s good. That was a great, detailed analysis. The city isn’t for everyone and that’s okay!

    I love NYC. It's one of my favorite vacation spots. I'm not sure I'd be able to live there though. The subway is fine for getting around, but not so much for moving a lot of stuff (like if you're going shopping, it's a pain to carry it all back). The cost of living is a bit too high for my tastes, and I just wouldn't have the room to store all my stuff.

    • @BehindThe5
      @BehindThe5  5 років тому

      Yeah that was also a challenge for me - carrying everything back was a hassle, but I guess that's just the city way of living. It all comes down to what you like best, and it's good that you have an idea of how you would/would not fit into NYC.

    I honestly can't imagine me living in a big city. But this is different for everyone. I'm glad to live in a small village in the middle of everything green and that I have a house on my own. For the same amount of money I would just get a little room somewhere, would have to deal with the neighbours who perhaps don't like me making music... I lived one floor below of a woman who didn't like my piano playing for three years and that really blocked me. If I had my marimba back then she would have freaked out. This isn't a problem now, at least nobody complained up to now.
    I lived in Mannheim for 1,5 years. It's far from the size of New York, but still big for my opinion. I had to walk for at least 20 min to get to the next park which then was crowded with persons. I made friends very fast, I haven't made new friends that quickly ever before and ever since. I also went to the university of music once a week to just listen to the students playing, was great. It worked out for that time but I think it wouldn't any more for now.
    With the dominoes you kind of have a similar or even greater need for space. Sure there are many customers or people for collaborations around, but will you still be able to do your own setups? You would need a studio which requires even more money.
    So much for the opinion of a person who can't picture herself living in a big city...
    In your place I would make a list of things that actually have to happen to make me do it (like: earn enough money to be able to do it...) When most of it has come true I would start planning.

    • @BehindThe5
      @BehindThe5  5 років тому

      there are definitely tradeoffs living in the city! (and hey I used to play marimba too in high school band!) I think I would need a big space for dominoes, so yeah.. would be QUITE expensive in the city. I’m not making any decisions now but we’ll see how the next 5 years go and keep reevaluating. Might not be necessary after all. Who knows..
