  • This crimp set is widely available in the UK. Are the crimps and the tool compatible? A gripping test and a dog scared by the fireworks.

Well done engineer , can you imagine how loud a dog hears exploding fire works with such sensitive ears and bandwidth ? Or maybe they can feel slight vibrations also ? Green Mile for them maybe .

Thanks for watching. I wonder about that too:- The dog hears the rumbling - she reacts to thunder way before we can hear it which makes be think it is subsonic rumbling she is picking up.

I’ve always used this type of crimp for over 35 years. I never use the red blue yellow type for the same reason and they do a more professional job. I start off with the largest crimp die and work to smaller to suit cable size these days as finding good quality crimps these days is hit and miss. Never had a bad crimp when using RS crimps and my trusted crimping tool always regret the day l lent it a friend came back with chewed dies the newer crimping tools are good just finding a reliable crimp source. Have the same problems too with the flag crimps. Great video pleased to see these being promoted for me the only type crimp to ever be used. Always enjoy all your videos pure quality. Thanks

Thanks for the comments. On Saturday last my neighbor tried to wire in a reversing camera and got into a right pickle with bad crimps. No fuse to the battery etc.etc. It occurred to me that crappy crimp sets cause a lot of unnecessary pain.

They are a good thing to own.. Crimping is a lot of fun but alas not for everyone, make your connections really tight, then your power will work just right!! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for posting this video. I was partic. interested in the pull test and the info. about current loads. The kit I bought is near identical to the one shown and although I'm only going to use the tool and the terminals to put together a very small wiring loom for my push-bike (hardly worth the term 'loom' - a pair of wires from the hub-dynamo to the headlamp and another pair from the h'lamp to the rear light !!) it's still good to know a bit of back-ground as to how to do things properly. Much appreciated.

You are welcome. These sets are pretty poor really as the crimps are not the correct ones for the tool jaws and vise versa. They do an OK job but aren't what I would call quality.

Generally, I prefer buying quality tools on the used market. As you pointed out, the specs on Chinese tools are almost always off, even if you can "make it work". For crimping, I use mil-spec terminals (which have internal serrations to hold onto the wire) with mil-spec tooling, even when I do customer repairs. Better repeatability, fewer headaches. The hardest aspect is understanding all the needed part numbers and turning them into eBay queries haha. When I receive used tools, I fully disassemble, clean and re-lube them. I have plenty of moral flexibility to use cheaper Chinese options, but over time I've gotten to prefer consistent results.

I agree. Chinese sets are by and large crap. The tools are good but usually lack polishing in the jaw contact area causing binding and the tool included in a kit sold rarely matches. Anyone who has done professional wiring using connectors knows how specialized it is and the level of care necessary to ensure a reliable crimped connection. I have used this kit quite a bit and am now less impressed than I was. My tip is to buy the tool and crimp from the same OEM. Molex equivalent parts and crimping tools from China work pretty well providing they are both the sourced from the same manufacturer. . I have never had a problem with Taiwanese kit.

Bought the tool but it doesn't really show how to use it correctly just show pictures. Thanks for doing the pull test. Thumbs up one this one. 48

Cut off the end with a hacksaw and see if the conductors are compressed.

Having used it for a while it is a kit of cheap crimps married to a reasonable crimp tool in a kit. I have given them a divorce.

@@razenby Have you replaced the dies with one of higher quality? I figure the quality of the crimp is in the die and I'm trying to figure out if it's feasible to piecemeal together a kit with separates.

It is the fans in the test equipment. I have some power supply designs on life test. I have bought a new microphone to improve the audio.
