I have a britstrip from HA and I'm very happy with the sound. This particular eq sounds like doing the job in a nice way. Thanks for the information.
I own both the original Neve 1073 and HA 73 EQ and love both, they sound very similar and can be used interchangeably
Good to know! Cheers!
I feel the same. I own the ha73 and rnd 511. They sound similar. The 511 is slightly cleaner and ha73 warmer. But im talking about a very slight difference.
@@astrangeandmysteriouspodca7168
Oh really?
I have ha73 too. If so, I think it will be similar to bae1073mp, but I wonder why the price of bae1073mp and ha73 is so different?😢
I just got the Neve 1073 SPX. This is a great video on how good the eq is.
I m also looking over this spx unit..hows it comparing to this heritage elite unit??
HA 73 sounds the closes to original Neve in my opinion. However, I do like using the Bae 1073 as it adds thickness to the source
I got a bae 1073 and it sounds incredible and has a beefy low end. Compared to the wa73 it’s cleaner yet warmer sounding , but I do like what the wa73 can do
Most people dont know...but the warm 73 eq units knock you out of phase with eq ckt engaged..very disappointing but most less experienced recording hobbyists can't hear phase problems for a few yrs mixing and recording...I've heard good things abt bae.
@@metalfather8139 Yup ! And warm didn't follow spec they don't have 3 inductors in the build, and that is a problem as well ! and they might be cheap ones as well !
Love your content bro keep doing this I follow you excellent information and knowledge regarding your hardware it’s very much appreciated
I appreciate that!
@barryjohns Which one would you take out of the Heritage, Warm or Stam 1073 with EQ clone?
I was just talking to him over a steak and he said he'd go for the Heritage. He was quite drunk though, so...
Barry...do you do compression on the way in while tracking?
Yes, on tracks that benefit from it, but very lightly.
Preamp voicing aside, how do you feel about the HA’s EQ vs. the WA EQ?
Watch my WA73 video
I have the same question, trying to decide which one to get ...
I would have thought you'd be rushing to do a video about AVID being sold : ) Looking forward to hearing your opinion.
He did a video on that already.
@@SeanHyland oh when?
@@SeanHyland oh yes you're right 2 months ago. for some reason there were articles about it yesterday. maybe it was just finalized?
@@zorglubmagnus455 Yeah, must have been finalized. I was thinking that.
Just Announced..New HERITAGE AUDIO I73 Audio Interface
Bruh, put that high pass filter on your mic please. Thanks, lol. Great video btw
My cable ended up being bad and I decided to leave it as it would take way too long to redo.
FYI the 73jr II Heritage makes is on a different level. Very got quality and sounds much better than the HA-73
I would buy and use an HA73EQ with no regrets but one... the BAE stuff has a little more green or something in the paint job, which to me, looks gorgeous. The Warm and Heritage have a more grey tint. The only thing that scares me off the Warm is i think its missing an inducter or something, some component, in the EQ section that the Heritage does have just like the original design. Doesnt mean the Warm is bad, just thinking out loud here. Chances are, id not even know the difference. Im too concerned with the actual content of the music im trying to make to put down any manufacturer.
It doesn't matter. Am inductor can only introduce phase difference on its own.
@@pb25193 does the Warm follow the original Neve EQ parts or does it not?
@@christopherJSmokeandMirrors depends on how you define original. Some of the parts were manufactured by vendors who don't exist anymore so technically even ams neve can't follow the originals. But if you are asking about forgoing quality of sound in order to save costs then I can assure you that none of the design choices make any difference.
The costs on clones are usually cut on:
1. Quality testing - if you know what you are doing, you'd return defective pieces so this should be fine.
2. Quality of knobs (?) Never touched the originals so idk, this is word of mouth.
3. The mic and line input share the same transformer, so if you use both together it could have unintended results? But nobody should be doing that anyway imo
This is for the WA73. I don't know the ha73 in this much detail but it's more expensive so I'd imagine it's as good or better.
@@pb25193 I define it as the Warm uses 2 inductors in the EQ circuit and the Heritage uses 3, like the original Neve, from what ive read. The Heritage video states that using 3 is the only way to get the EQ to work the same as the original. Not knocking the Warm Audio version, just pointing out the differences. I believe Revive audio may have pointed this 2 inductor vs 3 as well but i cant fully recall.
Hi Barry. Any idea how long yet will take you in show us this same video but abot the WA? I dont want to buy my unit until seeing this equivalent WA video on your channel. Thanks :)
I’m sorry about that, my bad, been so slammed. I promise, this week.
I am an electrical engineer so i bought the WA273eq, there is practically no difference from the original ams. (Same applies to heritage but warm costs less)
Any difference can be evened out by tweaking settings because the difference is usually in the knob potentiometers.
What this means is - outside of shootout conditions, they are identical, other than the gucci effect of the big brands.
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
how about the materials used in circuits? dont they make huge difference in sound? im a bit curious about this since im looking for an ideal neve 73 style preamp for my budget.
@@oceanfrank2677 if there's more or less distortion, adjust input gain.
If there's more or less of some frequency, use eq..
Most of the time you don't need to even worry because nobody is making their music with 2 neves in front of them and having to choose one.
If this was a tube preamp, then it might be a different story. Never buy tube equipment from cheap companies (unless they are charging a lot of money like tubesessor)
Sorry I'm going on a rant now. Hope I answered your question though
There is a difference trust me ! the warm audio is not as good as heritage audio version trust me !
In reality, if you want to compete in Los Angeles most clients don’t want to see clones.
Nobody who really wants to be a part of something truly great cares what California is doing. In fact, i hope it falls in the ocean.
😂
Not event The Attack of the Clones 2!?

Bought an HA73. And will never buy anything from heritage ever again.
My HA73 started malfunctioning out of no where. I literally went through hell trying to troubleshoot and show Sweetwater that this thing started messing up by it’s self.
I have to buy a neve 1073, recorded demos on the neve and 1073 to show how shitty the HA73 was.
Only after I sent them the recordings did they replace it.
They sent me a brand new one but I hd already bought the neve so I sold the HA73.
It was really one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with any outboard gear. Heritage is a big no for me.
Was it the model with or without the EQ?
@@SeanHyland with EQ
I’ve never ever ever had Sweetwater treat me this way. And I’ve purchased a shit ton of gear. If anything was ever not gucci w them, they always took care of it. Hard to believe.
