Installed the ft857d with the atas 120a but still having a small problem with tuning first thing, but after taking the Atas out of the mount and waiting a few seconds the Atas work's 100% so if you have any idea's please post below, it could just need more grounding???
Just a Update Part 3

Hi Michael I've not updated this video for awhile YES I've done what you have posted below and my FT857D and ATAS 120A is working 100% on all bands, most things like this are always dependant on the earthing system you use for bonding for the antenna to work correctly.
The ATAS-120A antenna is a 40m maximum antenna. It was never meant to tune on 80m, and the radio will refuse to go into tune mode when on 80m. As you understand, bonding is important, but so is a choke balun to prevent RF from riding back into the radio.
Thanks for a real world video, showing that things aren't always great out of the box! Much appreciated info. 73 M0TCF
my son had a Atas antenna worked for year, he got some very good reports from it..
Hi - experienced a similar problem with a ham friend with identical set up as yours apart from model of car lol. Anyway it was a grounding issue - or the lack of it to be exact. So we improved things with flat braided earthing straps on all four doors + boot hatch where 120a is mounted (bonded in three areas - antenna/right and left hinges. Bonnet/exhaust also got the treatment. Athough engine block is grounded for DC - we improved it with more flat braided straps - one on rocker cover and another in sump/gearbox area to chassis. Using the correct earthing straps is very important I find - also how there gounded to chassis. Improved things no end - has been 100% reliable thus so far. lol
A question for you please - I noticed you had the 11meter calling frequency logged in your ft857d. Can the atas 120a tune out of band to that frequency - presuming mars mod with your radio of course?
My ham friend ft857d hasn't had this mod done - hence the question?

Michael Brock a few years later but I can confirm the areas will tune anywhere you can go into transmit. If your 857 is modded to TX on 27 you can tune it. At least I can on mine.
Yes, it'll tune CB
Can you tell me which mount you are using for the 857?
I've been looking for one but don't fancy shelling out 80 for the yaesu mounting kit :-(
Good luck with the atas. Be interested in the solution
following too.
Hi, did you get any problems with ignition noise? I’m being plagued by it. It also picks it up from passing vehicles too when my engine is off. Can’t be the earthing though as the antenna tunes up perfectly on all bands?? 🤔
Hi Paul only just a very little when driving, you can only just hear it but not like your getting even when the engine is off I don't get anything from any other car's engine either, have a look at the NB and the other filters just in case they might help.
Been through all the filters etc, pulling what little hair I have out ha ha ha, you know it will be something really easy too
Don't put an antenna on a wet connection. I could see water drops everywhere?!
hi iv got an 897 and am looking at an atas too to get away from an atu as i do most of my operation mobile anyway.......what do you think to the atas overall and have you managed to sort your problem............the boot stops you have grounded to are added to the car after it has been painted so may not be a good grounding pointtake apart and take the paint off to the steel possibly? many thanks and all the best m0ydb
Hi David
Yes I got the earthing problem sorted out I'm now using a lot thicker earth cable and the connections I have on the boot of the car is better so everything now works as it should do, I'll get another video showing the connections, I'm glad I use the ATAS120A it's a very good antenna and if you want to go mobile either get antennas that are just for each band or go for the ATAS

Bonjour, c'est possible d'accordé l'antenne automatiquement en dessous des 7mhz ? 80M et 45M ainsi que 11M (27.555mhz) ? cordialement.
I think I know what your asking, the atas120a works from 40m to 70cms and yes 27mhz can be used if your radio is opened up
@@M0AOV do you still have the atas??
@@kd4kzz Hi JEREMY Yes I still have the atas and use it almost every day, still working 100% Thanks
@@M0AOV thanks.
Hello how does this setup work on the 11m band see we skipped that portion hahaha
Hi Kevin Z what you need to do is buy the radio or something like it and a cb antenna and get the radio moded so it works on cb band thats all, easy really loads of cb'ers have these kind of radio's on cb bands.
@@M0AOV thanks was trying to keep everything on 1 antenna since this antenna is tunable for basically all bands lol looking at doing a yaesu ft891 and some sort of screwdriver antenna...not hard to mod radio to do 11m lol
static strap ?
you can use some ferrite filters are a really good grounding strap if that's what you are asking?
Hi my callsign is 2i0nat and i have been off radio for a couple of years due to my mental health and I'm feeling a bit better thank god and I'm trying to get back to my radio hobby so I'm looking to set up a quality mobile station can you give me a bit of advice on your full set up including mounts atu etc thank you i wud really appreciate it if you can pm on messenger I'm Ciaran Mooney derry city N Ireland thank you so much i cant wait to get back transmitting
VERY Misleading. The title refers to installing the atlas. What you are showing is the problems you had after the installation.
FT857D & ATAS-120a installation is the Title nothing to do with ATLAS so not misleading at all.
@@lz2aov786 Atas, sorry.
