The shocking and sudden passing of Joey DeFrancesco has
reverberated deeply through the jazz community and beyond. He was one of the most loved, revered, and unique musicians of all time. This past Saturday, Joey was scheduled to headline the Northwest Jazz Festival, Lewiston, NY, sharing the bill with Emmet Cohen. Upon learning
the devastating news, Emmet and the promoter agreed that the best way to honor and celebrate his memory would be through a tribute set. Mark Whitfield and I (Troy Roberts) changed our plans and immediately traveled to Lewiston, shared memories from the stage, playing our hearts out with tears in our eyes. Thank you to Todd D Anderson for capturing this footage. We carry Joey's spirit each and every time we hit the bandstand, and we'll continue to keep his family and loved ones in our hearts and prayers.
