Pop quiz: the melody on the harp at the start is often confused as Toothless' theme, but officially it has another name and a slightly different role. What is it? And do you think trolls exist?
It is from The Downed Dragon, but I'm looking for what the theme itself is. This is only its very first appearance, but it gets a lot of play later. And I think I might have a troll or two. Lots of disappearing socks (only the left ones).
It sounds more like Test Drive to me. So it's tempting to say that it represents Hiccup's and Toothless' bond, but it would be weird for it to be placed there, so it's probably not that. Perhaps it represents the unknown more generally ? Seeing what is being said when it plays, it could be used to represent Hiccup's curiosity, and thus his inevitable meeting with "the unknown".
@@thefiredragon6542 That's a really interesting interpretation. Officially, it's the Flying Ostinato, for their bond and relationship as it develops and leads into flight. To be honest, I've never understood why it would play here other than to establish the theme and foreshadow things to come, but This Is Berk does the same thing with the Flying Theme in two places, so I think it still makes sense.
I kind of like how it is. It's a moment in the movie that tells you to pay attention because *this* is what our characters think about our Hiccup and their relation to him from the get-go. if it was left in I don't think I could of focused on the scene as much and not just think of Skyrim as I was watching. but that's just me. Cheers :)
I think it definitely works better without it. Something about the music conveys too much of a fantasy element instead of the human element it needs. And you’re right, that’s really what the scene is.
I’ve listened to the soundtrack so many times, and yet I never realized the beginning of the track was cut lol. Thanks for giving me something I didn’t know I needed 👍🏻
@@dipperpines2793 Thanks for checking both out. I have a feeling there are some extra or unreleased cues for the third movie, I just have no way of knowing yet.
this is a really nice piece of music and I really like it I do understand why they cut it though, this scene does kind of work better without music kind of like how while Not So Fireproof is a great track, it would be kind of distracting if it played in its entirety throughout that scene so I'd imagine that's why they cut it down for the movie
That’s right, I forgot only parts of that cue are in the movie. My friend Scenes and Scores did that on her channel a few years ago. If you don’t mind it actually playing back-to-back with Test Drive. I guess that’s why it was cut. ua-cam.com/video/qU3pu_0CSao/v-deo.htmlsi=OZs3QPe-OcAEaqH1

No problem! Have watched my video from last week on Dragon’s Lair, the cue cut entirely from HTTYD 2?
@@FilmScoreandMore yep, that one was also something I had no idea about

@@FilmScoreandMore I wouldn’t be surprised, it’d certainly be interesting to listen to any that do exist

Right. It works well on its own but ends up competing for attention with everything else.
Glad someone put the two back together. Could you do this same thing, but with "Not so Fireproof"?

@@FilmScoreandMore I most certainly do not mind.
@spasmplayer7422 Then there you go!
Never heard of that. Thanks for discovering me a new music xD.
I'm glad to share it. I'm still not sure how many people know this bit at the start of the track was supposed to play here but got cut.
