I just found one of these second hand for 220 (so not really any discount ,but it came with the grips) the grips completely change the ergonomics of the device. With the grips your thumbs sit on the sticks while your hands are lower on the device.
Thanks for doing this Aiden, I did use Russ's setup guide for my RP5 but I'm really glad I watched this all the way through, there are some gems of tips you've got in here and I've learned some stuff and made some refinements to my setup
Great to see the Odin 2 Mini getting some love. That’s my EDC retro handheld now. Thinking about getting the 5 and Mini because I love handhelds, but I know I won’t really use the 5 after some time. But the Mini I might use more…I need to see how it works at the Android 13 update
I just got this along with the Odin 2 Mini. Love both of them! The RP5 screen is a thing of beauty but the O2M screen is also great. Also, both are pocketable which I like.
@@watchingpollux I also have both, and if I could keep only one, I think it would be the Odin 2 Mini! It feels more comfortable and durable to me, and I do like having the left stick on top for 3D games. I also like having the extra headroom for Wii U/Switch. The screen is definitely better on the RP5, though, and it’s still a very good device. I’d recommend the RP5 if you don’t really plan on playing Switch or Wii U and the stick placement doesn’t bother you.
You guys get it. Some people give me grief for liking the O2M but the build quality and power make it Soooo good. Now they must keep the design and release an OLED version.
@@watchingpollux That's tough. I would probably lean towards the RP5 at this point. I've only used both devices for about 4 days now. The RP5 definitely wins out with the screen but in terms of power and being able to emulate systems like Switch & PS3 better then the Odin 2 Mini wins. I enjoy using the RP5 when I'm playing games that are very D-Pad centric and the O2M when playing games that primarily use analog controls. Both devices feel good in the hands, the RP5 is definitely lighter but the O2M feels solid and more premium.
Nice, I have the Odin 2 Mini Pro and love it. I skipped out on the RP5 and Mini but now, I’m kinda looking at it. I was initially going to get the Mini till I started hearing some stuff that turned me off in the reviews. I’m intrigued by the AMOLED screen…but I owned the Pocket Air before the Odin 2 Mini Pro, but that AMOLED screen was not able to keep me over the Odin 2 Mini. At this point I’m thinking about whether I should wait for the next iteration of the retroid or get the 5 and mini at some point.
I purchased a grip on Etsy for the RP5 that is similar to the RG556 form. It fixes the right button / thumb stick issue and makes using the 2 sticks on more modern games a lot easier to do. Retroid kept the D-Pad in the upper position but I also believe this was a mistake. I wouldn't use my RP5 w/o the added grip.
Love my RP5, yes the ergonomics is the weakest part of this. But for the size it is, there isn't any way around it besides making screen smaller to give more area to controls. Using it purely for streaming PC, ps5 pro, and MHGU emulation. MHGU runs at 60fps on standard power which is just wow. Screen is so so good that I can't have enough of it. For anyone curious, this is the perfect in house machine, it's liter than any x86 devices for comfort, screen is just wow, controllers though uncomfortable at 1st you do get use to them. If you have solid wiif at home, get this.
I really love my RP5. I'm definitely in the minority but the ergonomics suit me well, I think it feels really comfy with the sticks in their configuration. I think aesthetically i very much prefer the playstation style stick position. I did 3d print some grips, but I ended up not using them in the end.
I love the RP5 but the sticks should have been att he top or placed slightly inside a bit more. It's such a beautiful machine. It feels like a 1st party hardware.
The inset joy sticks would make a huge difference and an optional grip similar to the rp4 would be the cherry on top. I could make do with it while out and about, but turn it into the perfect couch device at home with the grip
@@koldwolfAyn Odin portal the RP5’s big brother if money is not an option 🤷♂️ but size is a factor for some in that case the RP5 is perfect for right now
I've been using it as a PS2 emulator and its been fantastic as such. The device feels so premium, and the battery life is awesome. Couldn't do without that OLED screen
I think the price point is what makes this the sleeper choice of these devices . The Odin 2 depending on where you order from at this moment is only marginally cheaper then RoG or base model steam deck .
This can actually emulate a lot of that misterious console. With Citron and turnip drivers I have been playing a lot of 3D very new just released misterious console games and it works pretty good. It literally is being used like if it was a better misterious Lite console. It's insane how much power this SoC has with a good emulator and good drivers.
I think Daijishō is feature rich. Its just to much going on for me. Beacon is my absolute favorite. Its simple, its lightweight. It supports Steamgrid for artwork. I dont understand why it doesn't get more love.
Happy to hear you like the Retroid Pocket 5! So far I’ve been doing Custom Accessories Showcases on My Channel I also agree that the Motor Vibration doesn’t feel as good compared to the Previous Models. I even Updated the Emulators and not much Difference.
I did order some etsy grips that came in two pieces, and they are shockingly good. I would never guess they were not a commercial product. But they ruined having the stock case, just like the same story with the RP4, a switch case works just fine.
Hey bud, love the content. I’m planning to buy the Odin 2 base portal but I’m wondering about the taxes. DHL cost me R1500 last time plus shipping. Do you think the retro pocket 5 is better? Keep up the great work.
@@adinwalls No, I didn't repair. Just added some PS2 game isos from my Mac into the ps2 folder from the SD card and put it back into the retoid pocket 5. After that, ES-DE did not show any game more. Before, it was all fine.
Should I buy a handheld PC or an Android handheld? Is the RP5 the best in this price range, bro? I'm only playing games like Genshin Impact, zzz, WW, Honkai Star Rail... (I have a laptop for other tasks)
After using it. I often hit the analog when pushing d dpad and also the annoying weird way of gripping the console like what you have shown in thw video
The only thing that I really don't enjoy about this device is the fact that retroid dock doesn't allow for pass-through charging with the RP5. If I'm wrong PLEASE tell me so, because I just want to enjoy this device to the fullest.
what's the most impressive thing you guys have got to play on your RP5 so far? for me it was Deus Ex for WiiU via Cemu android beta v16 plays flawlessly on smart fan mode
Ergonomics not perfect, yet PS Vita was the same! That was from Sony! Nothing a grip cant resolve. My disappointment was nowhere to attach a wrist strap!
My rp5 is my streaming machine and my psp.
I got a grip printed from Etsy and it makes it SO much better
Sounds like quite a few people got that grip

The thing I never mentioned in the video is that for dpad focussed gaming these ergonomics are absolutely perfect.
Hey Adin. Nice change up of video style. Enjoyed the change of "scenery" 😅
Ah cool. I just thought changing the scene would make the vids more interesting
It's does. For sure. Nice change up.
Also, get Ryan on a podcast. The guys a legend. He has punted this device from the get-go and really enjoyed his videos.
Hey Deshan, ya he seems cool. I'm slowing down on the pod to try and frow the channel more this year. I will pick it up again when I can.
I'm glad you like the RP5, great guide too! I'll watch it again in two weeks probably when my order from China arrives in the mail. 😊
Awesome. I hope you enjoy it

Ah. It was a compromise for sure but I really like this new design philosophy. I've realise that playing Dead focused games on this feels exceptional.

Etsy "retroid Pocket 5 grip" is the popular one
@ It looks like they paused printing but others on Etsy seem to use the design. I got the solid black model myself.
What theme is that? Been using Fade for too long. 43:43
Epic Retro Noir 😉

Hey man the only thing majorly improved with RP5 is the screen. The Odin 2 still has better performance. But yes, DHL is going to hurt.
I got a grip it helps with the economic situation
i only have slang shaders and not the default ones can i revert to the defaul? in retroarch?
I'm not sure what you mean by default but you can change to any shaders you like in RetroArch. Shaders are in the Quick Menu section

it's not eclipse and i search which is it
