I think it was the best decision. Especially with the new corona variant starting to spread more and increase the cases. Japan just got a HUGE INFLUX of cases. I live in Gifu and some of my elementary school students had to stay home and use their school computer tablets for video call during English Class. I do plan on staying in Japan in the long run, but like you said, I won't be continuing teaching. I applied as it was my plan to get into Japan, keep continuing my Japanese study, relax and make many friends, explore, and apply for japanese company jobs. This will probably be my last year if I'll be able to pass the interview tests with Japanese Companies. It'll definitely take some time and trouble, but I'll be able to preserve for sure. And yeah, teaching was never a long term goal because of many factors. Not my students, I love them all and they love me. Yet, there are a few bad apples as usual haha. It has been really cool to see your side of the story from a JET Program Teacher. I work for a dispatch company, so our situation is still the same. Just the work factor stuff is different. Please tell us about your last time here in Japan and I do look forward to seeing more of your content before you move back to Scotland!!!!
this is such a surreal feeling to watch this video, only because i've watched this channel for so long before my application, during and now being on JET. I'm officially flying out this year to go to Hyogo prefecture from the UK, so to know that i'm still kind of taking in your footsteps is so insane to me haha. i hope you had a safe journey back to Scotland, im glad you made your decision based on yourself and how you feel instead of anyone else :)
Jakub, it's been great seeing your progress in the 4 years, happy to hear you are coming back to Scotland. All your videos will keep me inspired to do what I'm doing next which hopefully get into JET when I finish my degree
I just wanted to thank you for your channel, your videos were a massive help when I was applying for JET and I'm sure when I finally get out there (I'm one of the UK JETs who got postponed in December because of the travel ban 😢) I'll still come back to your videos about teaching! Good luck with everything when you're back in Scotland, and I look forward to seeing what videos you post between now and August! (hey, maybe I'll actually have made it to Japan by then 😅)
I’m glad you feel confident with your decision, 100% post whenever you feel like it, this always felt like a passion project and that’s what makes it fun to watch because your enjoying yourself! Side question: I was wondering what might happen to all your patreon teaching materials. Best of luck, your amazing :)
Thanks for your kind works! I'm gonna try upload as many teaching materials to Patreon as I can before I leave, probably during the spring break. Once I leave Japan I'll keep them up and available, but I won't add any more after that. Just continue to offer the application help.
Hey, I'm due to come to Japan this Saturday as a delayed 2020 JET applicant from the UK. I have absolutely loved binge watching all of your videos! I love how you've addressed the negatives as well as the positives throughout. My family joined in watching some of them and thought the stories about night school were especially hilarious :') Thanks for all of the great videos - they are so well produced and edited! Good luck for the future after JET, I am sure you will do great things x
I'm so glad you're finally making it here!!! I just got a new neighbor last week who's also a 2020 UK applicant. Hope you're settling in okay. Thanks so much for your kind words and GOOD LUCK with your JET adventure :)
Ngl, it's been great watching your videos over that past year or so. Definitely helped during the time I was waiting for my application and interview results in early 2021. Now that I'm finally in Japan, I hope I get to make memories, like you have, during my time here! Enjoy the rest of your time here; we'll all be waiting for your videos regardless of when you post them! :)
Good luck as you enter the next chapter of your life, Jakub! I'll definitely miss your insights into doing JET in Japan as I work towards that goal myself. Thank you for your videos, and, y'know, we'll be around if you miss Japan and come back! :D
I hear you. As a JET alumnus and regular visitor to Japan, I've enjoyed following you. Thanks in part to you, I've also become more curious about exploring the UK in the coming years. I think my next trip is to Belgium, though. I wish you would vlog in Scotland. Staying tuned for your next few months output.
Jakub - thank you SO much for your JET content! All of your videos and series have helped me in being accepted for the 2022 programme! I wish you all the best in your endeavours no matter what you do, and thank you so much again 🥺💖
Thank you for sharing your Japan life with us ❤️ I left jet last year so it's been nice seeing Japan things when I'm feeling nostalgic. Goodluck for the future and looking forward to see what you get up to next
Want to thank you for the mock interview via your Patreon page last week. Was very helpful in preparing me for the actual interview and I don’t think I could’ve prepared any better. Cheers 👍🏻
Have thoroughly enjoyed your videos for a couple of years now - initially due to an interest in Japan but also because you've got such an amusing, thoughtful and creative outlook. Although I always hit the like button I haven't commented before, so a big belated thanks for all your videos and I'll look forward to the final few from Japan. But I'm also going to keep my fingers crossed that you'll allow us the occasional glimpse of life in Scotland (or wherever) when you eventually leave Jet.
Aw I’m glad you can feel confident in your choice! I’ve loved watching your vids before and on JET! The interview tips for applying for JET during COVID where super helpful 🧡 I also had a tough time deciding to change my recontacting choice, I did want to give it another year but my dad was diagnosed with treatable cancer which really drove me to head home on just my first year. But I’m glad we’ve both been able to experience Japan ✨ Can’t wait to see what you make next! 💖
aww i'm so excited for your future and whatever it may hold but i will miss your videos and i do feel bittersweet watching this! unfortunately the pandemic put a wrench in my japan plans but i will FINALLY be coming over this spring to Osaka, so I hope maybe we will get to meet before you leave and talk about kpop lmao :)
Unbelievably proud of you son. You really have done what Jet seems to be all about and helped so many people. And now you are coming home. And my heart swells with the deepest joy at the thought.
hope you do well Jakub, maybe ill see you around in Scotland sometime! A big influence on my goals as another Scotsman wanting to apply to the jet program. Sad to see that your closing this chapter but i hope you'll let us all follow you on the next one !
Well, there go my chances of meeting this qt. Maybe I'll see you at the airport on the way out? ;-P Wishing you all the best! Would love to hear about what you get up to in Scotland!
I’m not happy with this! But I literally had to walk away but I’m happy you did what you did! Your channel was super helpful! Hopefully I can meet you before you go! Like I’m gonna cry…. I’m giving the video a like but I’m hurt lol good luck on your future!!!
hello from the states I love your videos and I wanted to ask you as an alt how much you charge to review jet admission essay's, I didn't get into the jet program the second stage this year and I wanted to know if it was my essay
Hello! Sorry to hear you didn't get on this year! If you want to me to review your essay you can join my Patreon page at www.patreon.com/jakubtansey It's £10, but idk what that translates to in dollars with tax and whatnot.
It feels like the end of an era! I’m so grateful you’ve shared this journey so far as it’s entertained a lot of people like me during the pandemic~ I wish you best of luck in the future ☺️
I have only been in JET for about 4 months - and coming from my previous job - it’s unbelievably boring to me. But Japan is beautiful and I love it here so far. I hope you find something much more fulfilling than JET! I’m very excited for you Jakub. I plan on staying in JET (preferably) for 2 years. But going back to a field that’s more fulfilling in Japan if I can. It’s very easy to save money and I’m still doing things I like on the side. But I hate JET being my main job 😐 I love my kids but the feeling of feeling like my time is being wasted or I’m being underutilized is pissing me off lol.
How many years do you plan on staying in Japan? Are you in it for the long run??
