Slavic languages did it much different(I will use my native Polish) First is Niedziela (Sunday) because they accepted Christianity and their calendar starting weeks with the day you *don't work* (nie działać), then Poniedziałek (after Sunday), Wtorek (second-er), Środa (middle), Czwartek and Piątek a simple fourth and fifth, and then Saturday is Sobota, named after the Jewish Sabbath
Arabs have much simpler names for the week days. Sunday is called "Ahad" because it is day number 1. Monday is called "Ithnayin" because it is day number 2. So on and so forth until Friday, which is called "Jum3a" because it is the day People Gather. And then Saturday is called "Sebt" because it is the day Jews have their Sabbath, which translates to "Rest/Hibernation" in arabic.
In my mother tongue, Assamese, an Indo Aryan language from Northeastern India, our days of the week are based off of planetary deities from the Hindu pantheon. Deobar - (named after the Sun, Surya) Xumbar (X is pronounced like Spanish J, and is named after Soma, moon god) Mongolbar (named after Mars, Mangala, god of war,) Budhbar after Budh, or mercury Brihaspatibar, named after Brihaspati, or Jupiter, guru of the gods, Xukurbar after Shukra, or Venus, Guru of Asuras, And Xonibar, named after Shani, or Saturn, God of Justice and existential Constraints.
Honestly, I think the language with the best week day names is, hands down, Portuguese. The weekends have the same name as their Spanish counterparts: Saturday is named "sábado", which comes from Hebrew "sabbath", which is also "Saturday", and Sunday is named "domingo", from Latin "dies dominicus", which means "the day of the Lord". The genius part of it, however, comes from the working days: they qre named from the number of days since Sunday, plus "-feira". For example, Monday is the second day after Sunday, therefore, it is named "segunda-feira", "segunda" meaning "second", then "terça-feira", "terça" meaning "third", "quarta-feira", "forth", "quinta-feira", "fifth", and finally, "sexta-feira", "sixth". If I'm not wrong, this has to do with the festivity of the "dies dominicus", which would start in Sunday and last the entire week, ending on Saturday. The names "segunda-feira", "terça-feira", etc. would refer to each day of the festivity ("feira" comes from Latin and means "party" or "festivity"): the second day, then the third, forth, fifth, sixth, then ending on the following day. Because of this, you can easily separate the working days from weekends, since every working day is an number followed by "-feira".
In Arabic, its just based on numbers, except for Friday and Saturday. Sunday is just الاحد which is close to the word "single" or "one" Monday is close to "pair" or "two", Tuesday is close to three And so on till you reach Friday, which sounds more like the word "gathering". And lastly Saturday sounding like you're saying "sabbath" (السبت)
In Hungarian, monday is hétfő, wich basically means ,,the head of the week", and sunday is vasárnap, wich means ,,iron pricing day". The rest of the days do not have a meaning when translated to English.
Meanwhile Polish calendar: The day in which you do not work (Sunday), The day after The day in which you do not work, the second day, the middle day, the fourth day, the fifth day and the Sabbath.
While portuguese does it like this: 2° fair, 3° fair, 4° fair, 5° fair, 6° fair, sábado (sabatum) and domingo (dies dominicus). Because domingo is the first day of the week and sábado is the last, so they're technically 1° fair and 7° fair.
