R.I.P. , David Roback. Thanks to you and Kendra Smith for Opal, and to both of you for finishing the re-mastering and re-issue process for Opal's 2 albums, "Early Recordings" (mostly quiet) and "Happy Nightmare Baby" (mostly loud). They've been very hard to find for over 20 years.
Opal's 2 albums are soon to be Re-issued - Finally!... This song is So raggedly beautiful. The words are words to live by: "You fell from the sun Now you're feeling so cold Never thought morning Could feel so alone They say you gotta live by doin g She said she felt all undone They say that every day is dying Just like the sun Still in a cloud And the rain's falling down Clouds in the sky And the hills turn around They say that every day of livin g Should feel as if it were the last They say hold on to your feelings Not the past They say you learn just by starting To feel like you're not all alone Everyone just keeps on tryin g For the sun You fell from the sun Now you're feeling so cold Never thought morning Could feel so alone"
This was the very first song Kendra wrote. 100% Kendra, music and lyrics. She has this new song Moon Boat that she wrote and sang for the 2018 film Leave No Trace. It's over the final credits. Watch it. Great movie and the sing is a critical piece at the end! I understand she's recording again - in her cabin. ua-cam.com/video/rnoME6cyi_U/v-deo.html
I remember buying this as a 12 inch single in Virgin Records, Liverpool in 1984! Didn't have Opal or Clay Allison on the cover just Kendra Smith, David Roback and Keith Mitchell. It's the most beautiful thing I've heard.
Well, not in Liverpool, in Baltimore, MD. BUT THE REST OF IT IS THE SAME. Just saying, we're cooler than all you other guys who didn't hear this until after Opal was a thing.
+Guy Wordsmith I also bought this record in Virgin records Birmingham (UK) and it is great but there are others eg "fade into you" mazzy star (94) and moving to 2015 "the innocents" by low . the later is hauntingly beautiful . I think like this band Low were/are influenced by the velvet Underground and also David Roback/ Opal/Mazzy star .
Or try recent songs by Alison Mosshart, singer for the Kills (a way more balssy noughties act -and with Jack White in Dead Weather) like, "It aint water, or Rise "

Fair play to Pale Saints for covering this very well
Best Opal song ever. RIP David.

Great music from Opal . Loved Kendra since Dream Syndicate
RIP David Roback . Taken too early but his music will live on .
So crazy amazing that it still aches every time I listen to it 30 years after the first time.
"They say you gotta live by doing, she said she felt all undone. They say that everyday is dying, just like the sun"
Thanks for leaving every last bit of the fadeout. It holds the glimmer of hope.
so sad about learning from his departure... goodbye David.
I first heard this song on College Radio in 1984. I said wow it's 1968 all over again
The vocals kind of sound like a cross between Nancy Sinatra and Nico.
I had the Ep..Haunting
Kendra Smith she's the original opal they called themselves clay allison can't beat that whatever comes after!!!Kendra fell from the sun☆☆☆☆
...For the Sun...
david robach was the distorted guitar in his distorted youth kendra was his distorted muse that's how their music happened
Kendra was more than muse. She cowrote, arranged and produced EVERYTHING they did together including the RAINY DAY project.
@@dandelioninspace And recommended Hope Sandoval, whose Going Home demo she and Roback had produced, as her replacement.
Super Amazingly Great!

What Great Stuff !!! They Don't make music like this any more
+ABlastFromYourPast They do, actually. Give Kevin Morby a try.
Or try recent songs by Alison Mosshart, singer for the Kills (a way more balssy noughties act -and with Jack White in Dead Weather) like, "It aint water, or Rise "

Would love to hear some new Kendra Smith music.
vibe.
search Kendra Smith on UA-cam and you'll find her new recordings.
que buen album wow
That opening reminds me of Cortez the killer. The tone is dead on too
Thought it was Neil Young.
Sound yep, the singing is more reminiscent of that artsy ladylike latter day Marianne Faithfull / Nico
Anyone know where I can find the full record ?
i got here through a suggestion, who's the vocalist, this is aswesome
Kendra Smith
@@Brokenface thank you friend
