The first thing I bought for my puppy was a car seat. It's has tethers to clip into the seat belt clips and a tether for puppy to keep her in the seat. It has on front, back and boths sides, large rolled padding for safety. She has room to lie down if she wants to.
I’ve been prepping for a puppy for about a year (and watching your vids in the meantime) and I’ll be bringing my baby home in less than a month. Thank you so much for these videos! I feel confident and excited to be a great dog mom, even though this will be my first puppy by myself. Great videos as always!
2 weeks till I get him, I pretty much have most the gear, need a nail trimmer. I lucked out, last week our town had a "special" cleanup, and someone tossed a like new small sized plastic crate. I am planning on a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, so that will be the potty training crate, and when he gets older I have medium sized metal barred crate for when he can be trusted not to go to the bathroom in the crate...bought a pen to attach to the crate so once trustworthy he will have room to move around. I plan on bringing him with me everywhere eventually but sometimes you want to leave them home.
Still haven’t bought my puppy yet, but ordered everything on the ‘New puppy shopping list’. I’m now watching the videos while trying to find one. I’m in Jamaica and trying to find reputable breeders as this is my first puppy and I want to do an excellent job.
You're off to a great start Yvette! Here is a great video all about the right questions you should ask a breeder. ua-cam.com/video/qOXL-DGE6qs/v-deo.html
I bought the snuggle puppy for or new member of the family, a 3 month old Shih Tzu and was helpful! She falls asleep in a bit! I saw it on a video tha you posted like a year ago or so. Thanks Michelle for all the tips.
my puppy beagle will be home by August 21st. And I am started to purchase some essentials for her just as you recommended on the video. hopefully she would like them. am also preparing myself to be patient in training her especially in pottying outside, and staying in the cradle as her rest house. :-)
I have a almost 8 week old pup. Which video are most important to watch first? I have been watch a crate training which she is getting better. She nips bad and pulls on my paints. Besides that so much to learn. That is why I am asking most important to watch first. Thank you

Can you do a special video for potty training in the winter!!? We are getting an iggy and heard that potty training is hard with them, even harder when they hate the cold weather
Congrats! We don't recommend bedding in the crate until after the teething stage is done (after 6-8 months). Try out different beds, preferences can vary for every pup!
It is definitely possible to work full time when you have a puppy, but the first few months might take some creative problem solving on your part! As you can see from the sample schedule in the New Puppy Starter Kit, puppies have a lot of needs! Puppies can hold their bladder approximately an hour per month of age, so you’ll have to arrange for someone to take him or her out for potty breaks. But puppies also have needs for human engagement, enrichment, mental and physical exercise and of course… cuddling! As they grow they can be left home alone (always in the crate) for increasing periods when you are away at work. But for the first few months - even up to a year - you’ll likely need some additional help from friends or family to meet all of their needs. We have a great video on puppy schedules, as well as what to expect during the first year of a puppy’s life. Those two will be great resources for you as you plan! If you’ll be working from home, we have a great one on that topic too! Puppy Schedules: ua-cam.com/video/7tVJSbcHJVw/v-deo.html What to Expect the First Year: ua-cam.com/video/wic1IGMReT8/v-deo.html
Love your videos! I feel way more confident for when puppy arrives soon. What are benefits to a pen outside for potty? Would a designated area be good since he’ll be on leash or are they more likely to go in small area?
The outdoors can be super distracting for young pups so have a designated spot can create a stronger association with going outside = potty. Plus, the smell from them going in the same place is going to make it easier for them as well.
We do not recommend any type of aversive tools and methods. While these things may serve as a quick fix, they affect the welfare of the animal and can lead to other behavioral issues in the long run. Gaining an animal’s trust and building a common language between two different species (human and canine) happens with one positive interaction at a time, which builds trust. Alternatively, trust is broken with negative interactions, such as threats, force, fear and punishment. It is not necessary to teach in this way. Equally effective, safer and more humane alternatives exist and have been proven to be successful. Hi! I’m getting my puppy at 3 months old from a family member who’s dog had puppies, what if they were using pee pads with the pup before I am able to get it at 3 months? I don’t want to use the pee pads like you mentioned. Am I able to switch to no pee pads after I take it home because the puppy will be used to it?
Instead of a pee pad, you can work on potty training your puppy to go outside, including ringing a bell to alert you when he/she needs to go. Here is our New Puppy Starter Kit with potty training tips and tricks: howtotrainadreamdog.com
I was hoping you would talk about the leashes that are in the background of your other videos, they are usually hanging on wall on your right side. Are those leashes used as a "house" leash?
Great questions! Have you checked out our free resource called The New Puppy Starter Kit. There are lessons on these topics in there. howtotrainadreamdog.com/
@@HowToTrainADreamDog Thank you. One more question, since today morning my puppy is sitting under a big table in the corner. What would be the reason for that?
@@themusicalbuddy245 There could be many reasons for this including just trying to find a safe quiet place to rest. Pup could be overwhelmed, Pup could be transitioning into the new environment. The environment could be too much to handle right now. We would need more information to better evaluate what is going on and what to do next. Be sure to watch this video about what to expect with your new puppy ua-cam.com/video/wpHz3fcnugg/v-deo.html
