Getting Started: Clipping In/Out Of Your Peloton Pedals
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2018
- A complete guide to clipping in and out of your pedals:
To clip in, start by standing with one foot on each side of your bike frame. Make sure both pedals are lying flat with the Peloton logo facing up.
Point your toes down to fit your cleat into the pedal, then push down through your heel until you hear a click. This motion is similar to putting boots into skis, or putting your foot into a pair of high-heels.
When you’re ready to clip out, twist and kick your heel outwards. This is the same move you would make to squash a bug under the heel of your shoe.
If you are having trouble clipping into or out of your bike, we recommend holding down the break and putting your full weight on the pedal. We do not recommend loosening the tension screw at the bottom of the pedal. You may cause damage to your pedal if you loosen it beyond the tension adjustment window in the back of the pedal

I just got my peloton and it took me longer to clip in and out than my ride! 😂
I got mine delivered yesterday and still having issues clipping in.
You guys make me feel better knowing I’m now the only one having clipping in issues. Ahhhhh.
That’ll be me!!! Thanks for normalizing!!!
Please tell me it got easier to clip in and out? Does it just need to be worn in a bit ?
Me too...but I think I’m getting it!
After almost an hour of trying to Clip the shoes in and getting it I have decided that the shoes are going to stay in the bike!!
I said the same thing. It will stay on the bike😂
I just googled how to get them in and decided the same thing they are staying on now! 😂
You’re here because you just got a peloton and you’re stuck on your peloton
Lol!
@@janicemiele2278 lol
lol
And because I bent the damn red shit at the bottom!
Yesterday my husband had to help me. Today I just took off the shoes because I still can’t get out
No way is it this easy to clip in and out. Just about felt like I was going to break my ankle.
I agree!! 😩
Agree- this is ridiculous
My shoes are currently dangling from my pedals
My shoes are stuck in, absolutely cannot get them out, just ridiculous. I could feel muscles straining in my hips i was trying so hard to get them out.
I agree glad I'm not the only one.
"click out with moderate force" - moderate force means hard enough to break your knee in half...
Snap! That was my hardest hit. I’ve just finished my first ride and I’m watching this on the bike as I can’t bloody get off! Haha
Same!!
Wow. I broke more of a sweat trying to snap on the shoes to the clip then even attempting a workout. If anyone is recovering from a knee injury (MCL), be very cautious when twisting your foot and trying to snap out, as this may cause injury.
I can’t clip in! Call me crazy but this is soooooo hard... I can’t imagine getting out
Same. Please tell me it gets easier..
@@rachellerockel with new shoes it’s more difficult. It gets easier lol
As a long time road cyclist, these instructions are correct when on a normal road bike. For the Peloton, there is a much easier way as explained by Ally Love on many rides, which long ago changed how I clip out on the bike. In the same 12 and 6 position, take the TOP foot and move your ankle TOWARD the bike to clip out - turning your knee with the foot, which is much easier. Then, bring that foot through the middle and easily turn your ankle and clip out of the foot that is down. Both moves take advantage of the leverage of the leg position on the stationary bike. Do it once and never go back!
Yep you're right! So easy to get out using your method! Thank you!
Thank you! This worked for me!
I can unclip which hasn't been easy so I'll try yours. Would you happen to know why the cleats move and reposition after unclipping? Even when the bolts are tight it's happening every time I ride so have to retighten and reposition them. Peleton said it was the thread so sent me a new pair and same thing happened. I've taken indoor cycle classes for years with SPD clips and never had an issue.
@@jennyg970 Hi - I only use SPD's on all bikes, so unfortunately can't assist on that! Good luck 👍🏻
@@sportruby did you switch the pedal you clip in out to accommodate SPD on your bike? If so how easy is it to do? May use my shoes I already have that have SPD
I had a total knee replacement ten weeks ago. To aid in my recovery, I just purchased a peloton bike and made my first attempt at riding it today. To others with recovery from a similar surgery, I did loosen my pedals to make it easier to disconnect my shoes. Needless to say, I learned fast not to lose my balance in attempting to release the nonsurgical leg, especially when my surgical leg i
was still connected to the pedal.
I left my shoes on my bike cause I couldn’t get out. My husband was cracking up at the fact that I abandoned my shoes because I was too weak to get myself out.
My cleats are still there too. Going try to remove them later today when I go for my 2nd ride.
I almost did that! Glad to know I'm not the only one having difficulties with this!
getting out of the clip may be a problem, but not for me - have been unsuccessful so far getting my shoes clipped IN!
Where are Peloton's product managers? This clipping in and out is ridiculous! Thinking of returning this.
Why is there a tension screw if you’re not supposed to use it?
Can’t seem to get them into the pedals, but when I do, I hope I’ll be able to get out of them. Just got mine yesterday, still haven’t had my first ride because of shoes 🤬🤬
I have done many spin classes at many different spin studios and this is the hardest time I have ever had to clip in and out. I have the bike a month and still haven't been able to ride because of this.

I’m going to cry
When I do this on my road bike, I start around 12 o'clock position on my dominant side then slowly rotate and catch the other side when coming up into the 10-11 o'clock position, following from behind and clipping in with some forward movement. Not sure if that's the same with all types of pedals, my Look Keo's also come up with the upper side when rotating the crank, so it is more or less one fluid move.
Works for me pretty well, hitting 9/10 after a month of riding proper pedals and not mountainbike shoes/cleats any more. :)
Do standard step ins for my outside bike work on their bike? Or do I have to buy their shoes?
Look, they say not to adjust the tension screw but I HAD to or else I could NOT clip in at all! I tried everything. Now I can! So it is what it is!
I ended up with Achilles Tendonitis. I plan on loosening them. I can put them in, by using my heal weight but getting them out is no joke.
I can’t even clip into my pedals, doing all as instructed!!☹️
I just got the bike and having the same issue getting the shoes out. What did others end up doing? I’m not sure which of the 5 screws on the pedal to loosen. It seems like they discourage this but don’t know what else to do.
Nope, it's not working for me, I nearly twisted my ankle last night trying to get free
Ashley Brown i had the same problem! It’s tough.
Me too! Damn this thing is hard
Am suffering 🥺
If you have your cleats fitted correctly and you have your foot flat it’s as easy as they show in the video to unclip
I regret buying this shit so hard
@Peloton is there a video showing how unclip your toe cages since you don't recommend loosing the screw??
First ride and I left my shoes on the pedals as I saw someone else do. Is there not a better design than this?
As an fyi I was told to loosen the tension on the pedal by a customer service rep. As I got stuck on my first ride🙃
Someone needs to pin this comment up on top
I have muscular weakness that makes it difficult to press down hard and clip in. But it doesn't deter me from taking cycling classes. Instead of mounting the bike then clipping in, I will try this
I got stuck on the bike! Could not clip out and could not get my foot out of the shoe. It is very difficult.
Currently stuck in the shoes trying to figure out how to get them off. Well at least they look cool
Or if you only have one person using the bike like me just keep your shoes clipped in. Lol
That’s what I do! Soooooo much easier!
Good idea!
Same!! My shoes are just hanging!!
omg genius lol
Can I ask why the suggestion isn’t to lock your pedals? I find it so much easier to clip in and out when they’re not spinning. And then I know that, God forbid, someone who doesn’t know how the bike works, won’t sit in it when I’m not around and have the pedals spin around and hurt them (like I did as a kid on my Aunt’s spin bike and it resulted in 8 stitches and a prominent scar that’s still visible 20 years later).
I'm also really worried about my knees with this lol I can bike fine, but my knee isn't sturdy with wiggling movements like that lol
A good way to demonstrate this would have been to do a close up of how the shoe holes looks, vs how the pedal looks. So we can see how they correspond & therefore clip into each other.
This took me 1 hour to do!!! Arghh
I’ve been trying to clip out and it is so frustrating. i’ve been able to do one side only, the other side won’t give in.
I just got my bike - I can not clip in to save me life 😭😭
How did you get yours to clip
And omg this seat is horrible. My bum 🙁
Your bum should adjust. Mine was sore the first week, then nothing.
I just bought a gel seat cover on amazon. let's see if it helps!
@@valerieallen4095 pleeeeease let us know if it helps! Im sore..lol
I bought a gel seat cushion and some cycling padded panties. Like sitting on a cloud.
I left the shoes on the pedals then used my hands to twist the shoes off after watching this video as my wife will need to use the bike later.
I’ve been trying to clip in for an hour but it’s not working :( I haven’t been able to ride the bike at all
LOL! I got into my clips but for the life of me could NOT get out! Had to pull my feet out of my shoes. Maybe tomorrow!!
Im having a hard time clipping out? I had to take my shoes off my foot help
I just received my Peloton, clipping in was easy, however clipping out was another story. I actually took off the shoes and left them on the pedals.. 😅🙁😫
Try turning your heel in towards the bike rather than out. Works for me :)
Im thinking of selling the bike as the clipping out is impossible. Its dangerous to be stuck
Clipping my right foot out has hurt my foot. Right on the top where the joint is hurts so bad! Anyone know why
Everytime I clip out it still feels like I’m going to twist my ankle
Is anyone having issues with the red cleat moving after clipping out where you have to straighten and retighten the bolts? I spoke with customer service and they said it was the thread on the shoe so sent me another pair and same thing. I have cycled for years with SPD cleats and never had an issue. Anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks

@@OnePeloton Hi. I just got my bike delivered yesterday and having the same problem with clipping in and out as everyone else in this forum. I called customer support and after talking with them and listening to their instruction, I could tell the person was reading the "how to" guide. I asked if they had ever attempted to clip on and off the peleton or are they just reading without actual first hand knowledge. They indicate they were reading! It appears clipping is an issue with the bike. Do the Engineer listening. It seems with so many having issues evidenced by the comments and the flood of videos on the web that Peleton would offer more of an explanation than the short video they offer which I have learned is not easy and its ridiculous that once a person finally gets the shoe clip they give up when completing their ride and leave the shoes on the bike. Seriously disappointing and absolutely comical for a bike that is this pricey!!!!!!
A week later I could’ve just googled this video. 🤣😆🚴🏻♀️💪🏻😩
I never got the shoe clipped. Just got my feet out of shoes, leaving them perhaps forever attached firmly to pedals. I thought about a crowbar, a plumbers wrench, etc, but the shoes are still glued on.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Are they still stuck?
I have spd cleats are these compatible? I can’t clip in for my life 😫 please help
you need Delta Look cleats
Unapologetically Me just bought some changed my life
Immortal Warrior are they easier to clip in and out?
Expat Explorer I had the wrong cleats 😅 so I exchanged for the delta and they are PERFECT 👌 thanks y’all, for your guidance ✌🏼
I am struggling with clipping it in.
Lube the rubber pad on your cleat and then a little on the flat part of your pedal.
Would you tell me what you used for lubrication?
I got my bike 3 days ago and can’t clip in. I have ridden these bikes before so I know it’s not me. I’m so over it😩
Finally nice to see how it’s properly done I thought the first time I did it wrong since the red piece you screw on the boot shifted but once again after watching the tutorial and doing exactly as said once again they shifted to the side after retighteneing them down as tight as I could. Anyone know how to avoid this since it seems I’m going to have to readjust them after each ride and removal off the pedals. 🥲🫠
I feel the clips are unnecessarily stiff. It puts a lot of strain on the hip and knee to unclip the first foot. The other foot is not that difficult. My husband, who has a road bike, agrees.
I have a hip replacement, so this is particularly worrying for me. Other hip is also showing signs of arthritis, so I'm wary of putting too much pressure on this side either. I usually take my foot out of the shoe before I unclip it.
I know you’ve had your Peloton over a year now, are you able to clip in and out now?
Easy peasy
I can’t even clip in lol
I have the same problem with the getting on and off. Tried it and could not get my shoe off. I beginning to think that this is probably the worst investment I've made. I got so frustrated, I haven't been back on the bike

This is stupid isn’t working I wish there was a 0 star review
I have watched this and many other videos many times and still can’t clip in. HELP
How can I remove the shoe cage as I now bought the Peloton shoes?
Help me I’m stuck on the bike
Just putting them on takes me 35 min it’s like a work out
I clip in but when I come to a rest or slow down they POP right out of their own accord. I cannot get the shoes to STAY clipped in! Never had this problem with other clips and bikes in spinning classes. Are there any fixes to this problem other than buying new clips or pedals?
me too! i think you have to tighten the pedal front clip - its the single top bolt when the pedal is flipped - using the small allen wrench tool. Im still googling and haven't done it yet....
ua-cam.com/video/y0Baw7XJ8BA/v-deo.html
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
I will keep my door unlocked & phone handy in case I get stranded.
Peloton made a mistake not using more common SPD pedals. You can actually transition to floor workouts without changing your shoes. Who wants to change shoes?!
Really frustrating to deal with these clips
Not intuitive and reaching the floor afterwards isn’t easy either
I would like to know for all those struggling with it if your red clip has writing on the bottom? Do they have a round black rubber piece in the middle of square/rectangle?
Yes.
First ride with the cleats and got a stress fracture in my foot trying to get out of the bike. I’ve had nonstop problems with my peloton bike and the folks that installed my bike didn’t put the tension knobs to the concrete floor so when my cleats got stuck, my entire back almost fell onto the concrete. I’ve been recovering from a stress fracture now for almost 3 months - haven’t been able to ride and still getting billed from peloton. My bike and cleats still haven’t been fixed. Would recommend returning your bike for a refund if you are having these problems before you get seriously injured.
day 6: i still can’t get my shoes off the pedal. i knew i should have grabbed my nikes from the garage but i was too lazy
Forget the advice to NOT loosen the damn screw on the bottom! Do it or your shoes will be in there for the duration.
My wife left her shoes on and i had to hit them with my hand hard enough to get them out of the clips and then adjust them. We have been riding for YEARS and we never have this problem with our clips on our road bikes.
Other than that...looks like it is going to be great! By the way...They delivered when they said they would and on time.
i’m glad i’m not the only one ! my shoes are permanently in my pedals lol i’ll just step in and out of my shoes
is it the same with running shoes?

It’s impossible to clip in!
