I applaud the 959's owner for sharing his remarkable vehicle, as I also benefited from the generosity of someone with some very famous cars in their day. Specifically, I was lucky enough to drive the 'infamous' 3.3 Turbo 4-speed manual for a few years in my late teens/early 20s as a friend's father had one and he let me drive it quite often, along with his 2.7 Carrera. The last Rennsport reunion....driving to the track in the morning....959's in traffic in front of you. 959's just cruising through traffic. I was enthralled...like a kid in a candy store....like a teenager finding a Playboy. I can't imagine seeing one at speed on the autobahn...in the wild. Such an amazing car.
Thank you for a fantastic video "That Nine Eleven Guy" I had a 959 picture on my bedroom wall as a young teenager. So knowledgeable listening to you while watching the video 👍
How nostalgic is this super car to me during the late 80's when my boss (a Sheikh) bought six out of 200 unit produced by Porsche, then he send back to Stuttgart 5 of them to change the exterior paint color and interior to his preference for a 100k each. This is his daily driver whenever he's out. What a beautiful car by then it's one of the rarest car of his collection.😀😀😀🏎🏎🏎
Look at you Nine Eleven Guy! Living the dream. So very few of us will ever do. I am sure James The AutoAmateur is watching with hand on heart. You go mate!!!
I was 12 at the time, the world was buzzing with the 959 and the F-40. Of course, us youngsters were more impressed with the F-40 because it was more raw and we counted everything in top speed numbers but...as time went on I was able to appreciate the engineering marvel that the 959 was. Today I would settle with the 930/964, so long as it has that traditional look and lacks electric steering because the steering feel of the old cars is everything to me as a driver, modern cars have killed my love for driving. Thanks for the memory flashback, I wish I were sitting in that seat instead of you, even for a short while😉
This was quite enjoyable..... Only joking mate , I loved it , a 992 turbo then jumping In to a 959 on the autobahn!!! Come on ! , does it get any better 👍🏻

quality video. some people are disappointed you didnt push it hard enough, but not only you dont want to break the classic car, but lets be real you are also not like mad lads from autotopNL who drive 300kmh cars on autobahn daily or those 1000 lap nurgburgring guys. this is informative yet personal. i like it.
What a great video! While not a Porsche guy, even though I've owned many. I love the passion displayed and the look on the authors face in driving the 959. ....and I'll also add, given such a rare vehicle, there isn't the concern to put miles on it. In my Ferrari and Lamborghini world, everyone agonizes to put a damn mile on them....this was refreshing!
In 1988 when I was a boy I wrote to Porsche in Germany asking for as much information as they could send me about the 959. They sent me this lovely glossy silver foldout, all in German, of course, which I couldn't understand. But those were the days before UA-cam, when cars existed in your imagination as much as anything else, when they were things of mystery that you glimpsed and sensed through car magazines, or saw rotating on podiums at motor shows.

Excellent video! You are a very lucky guy to have driven a 959, having the autobahn to your disposal while in a 959 is just nuts!! Life can only be downhill from here on 😅
Ahahaha, agreed, there's not much left to look forward to after such a red letter day. I'll try hard to beat it though!
Looking forward to your attempts at beating this one. 👍
Wow! That was awesome! You actually seemed surprisingly chill although it was the first time you have sworn in a video!
Thx for sharing, lots of details too about the car and it’s history!
Top, top video. Absolute poster car for me, forget the F40 the 959 was the real deal. Stunning
Cheers Gareth!
The 959 is pure timeless elegance. And pretty fucking fast too.
Thank you very much for the Video , this is what I needed today !!
Very pleased I could help!
Thank you for a fantastic video "That Nine Eleven Guy" I had a 959 picture on my bedroom wall as a young teenager. So knowledgeable listening to you while watching the video 👍
Thank you kindly, Darren.
Great you got to experience the uber 959 and good on Paul for throwing you the keys. Would be good to get the 959 and CGT together one day.
BEAUTIFUL job Lee. I was hanging on every word!
Thanks Michael, I appreciate that!
Wow! Great video. Thanks for sharing your experience guv. Your smile nearly touched your ears. A LEGEND of a car.
Love the enthusiasm. Living the dream bro!
Thank you!
Look at you Nine Eleven Guy! Living the dream. So very few of us will ever do. I am sure James The AutoAmateur is watching with hand on heart. You go mate!!!
excellent Video and what a G
great car...we done Lee
Thank you kindly!
It’s great to see your excitement considering all the 911s you’ve driven
Keep up the goood work your pronunciation and accent kills me lol
I was 12 at the time, the world was buzzing with the 959 and the F-40.
Of course, us youngsters were more impressed with the F-40 because it was more raw and we counted everything in top speed numbers but...as time went on I was able to appreciate the engineering marvel that the 959 was.
Today I would settle with the 930/964, so long as it has that traditional look and lacks electric steering because the steering feel of the old cars is everything to me as a driver, modern cars have killed my love for driving.
Thanks for the memory flashback, I wish I were sitting in that seat instead of you, even for a short while😉
Epic car
This was quite enjoyable.....
Only joking mate , I loved it , a 992 turbo then jumping In to a 959 on the autobahn!!!
Come on ! , does it get any better 👍🏻
You're right, it doesn't! Distinctly above average few days.
That Nine Eleven Guy
Keep up the great content mate , you’ll do well to top this though
I wish I had a mate with a 959 !!!
I’ve watched this tonight , now Scotland 🏴 have qualified for euro 2020 (1)
Fackin yes !! !!!!!
@@Carrera-gp9od Huge congrats! My mum is Scottish so I'm pleased you've qualified, I remember watching the Brazil game in 1998, long time ago now!
What a special moment....My absolute favorite car!!
Love watching Lee realising its a 959! Great comparison
Haha! Thank you!
Lucky man, you drove my dream car..
I'm not sure I would start accelerating to 200 MPH on a curve - I'm guessing that not all cars in the fast lane are traveling that fast 14:02
What a great video Lee! For a 50 year old bloke, this is the daddy of tech-fest 911. You must qualify as the fastest uk 959 driver in the last 20years! Check out Tiff Needle 959 v 993 turbo as Milbrook proving ground vid. Thanks again.
Will definitely check that video out! And I'm happy to confirm the owner went a smidge faster than me on the way back! It was a sight to see.
Well you did have a good excuse to avoid the lockdown curfew! Here’s the link to the Tiff N on Topgear

quality video. some people are disappointed you didnt push it hard enough, but not only you dont want to break the classic car, but lets be real you are also not like mad lads from autotopNL who drive 300kmh cars on autobahn daily or those 1000 lap nurgburgring guys. this is informative yet personal. i like it.

DIE Autobahn, mein lieber Freund und Kupferstecher! ;)
Who among us would not sacrifice our entire career to have created the 959!!!
What a great educational video
Thank you 👍
My pleasure
What a great video! While not a Porsche guy, even though I've owned many. I love the passion displayed and the look on the authors face in driving the 959.
....and I'll also add, given such a rare vehicle, there isn't the concern to put miles on it. In my Ferrari and Lamborghini world, everyone agonizes to put a damn mile on them....this was refreshing!
Wow! 2 great cars, one great video.
Thanks Henry, very kind.
Happy for you man!! This is amazing
Infectious enthusiasm, love it.
What an incredible video. Very lucky boy!
Very very very lucky indeed! As I said in the vid, I'll be dining out on that for decades.
Fantastic video Lee well done.
"This is kinda nuts isn't it?" LOL!! Yes...YES! IT's F***ing NUTS! You lucky bastard - thank you for letting me live this through you!
