SLASHING Costs (Effectively) in Your LAWN Care Business
Вставка

- I don't believe you can cut costs to a profitable business. Your pricing needs to be correct, and you need to be doing enough volume of work to justify the upfront investment. However, it is prudent to keep an eye on costs as managing costs DIRECTLY effects profit retention. Every dollar saved goes straight to profit. In this video I'm sharing the areas I like to keep an eye on to manage the costs for our lawn care business.

MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

I have used yardbook for almost 10 years...im not a big operation, but everything in yardbook has been just fine!
Me too 😊
9 years with Yardbook free version does everything I need it to do.
Great info about insurance. Spot on with everything! Local agent is great. However I switched to progressive to save some money and when I called my local agent to let them know and for them to send over info to progressive, they said they would have matched progressive prices. Well, it was too late I had already agreed and gave account info to Progressive.
Moral is, check back with insurance before you leave to see if they will match.
Keep it up man. Dropping nuggets!
You gotta spend money to make money. Make sure you are getting the most out of your write offs. I know a lot of guys burn the books but it's lights out if you ever get caught.
Cutting non-billable time, standardized procedures and setting up automated processes within your crm are some of the biggest items to focus on and gain the biggest returns.
Been a slow year for me so far. The leads just aren't coming in like we expected/projected. Bidenomics man.
For residential, I get a very good return on 18×24" bandits signs. Get atleast 100 of them and ideally get then out right before the season of whatever it is your selling. Try to put them in places where they'll be seen and not taken down.
About $550 in signs and 8 hours of labor, probably pulls in a few hundred good leads a year.
People are feeling the squeeze of inflation... Not to say there's not plenty of work out there... There are many clients who are insulated and "recession proof" if you will. For me, it is another reason for us all to do our very best to target these types of clients... not ones who will drop you at the blink of an eye because milk goes up 35 cents.
Misery loves company. You are not alone, most businesses are down 30 plus %. You just have to take it a month at a time. 2018 2019 I would get multiple calls a day now I am lucky to get one call a week and I am on top of page 1 on Google. If we don't get new leadership this November then we are done. 4 more years of this 50 per cent of business will close down .
@@FloridaTurfPros yessir.. I haven't lost customers (or any I cared for lol).. but it's been a slooow year as far as new customers go. I am higher $$ than I was when I started. Trying to hit this $60/hr goal and a lot of guys in my area are well below that.. they may not know it.. but they are. Also I find it's the older owners who suck with that. Do things way too cheap.
Epic
Try next insurance
Do you have the customers pay the processing fees on stripe with Yardbook or do you pay them? I just switched to the customer paying them and it seems like it could be costly. But they can always pay with check.. but lots of checks are a pain too to keep track of.
I don't pass on the processing fees to my clients directly, but I do account for the processing fees in our overhead calculation when I'm setting our prices for each client.
I have mine pay the fee and they even tip me. Most like the idea they can pay online.
How much should one expect to have to pay for insurance?
General liability policy for lawn mowing only is about 1500-2k annually. Commercial auto 1500-2k annually. Workers comp varies widely... could be 3k annually to much higher. If you do landscaping work of any kind then you will be categorized as landscape and the rates will be even higher. Tree work, extremely high. I guess my point is the cost varies greatly depending on your needs and industry.
Yeah..but cmon. I see local dudes with a $80,000 truck with $8,000 worth of wheel and tires.
Then they’re pricing low to get volume. Absolutely flying from stop to stop at nearly half our rates.
Supplier and dealership relationships are important and don’t be afraid to communicate to them that there’s a lower price in town. Chances are, they’ll try to meet them.
I love the point about stopping at gas stations. We had a helper that would stop at every gas station! I often wondered how he kept any money.
Don’t be afraid to raise prices. Too many services mowing for the same price as 10 years ago. It’s easier to bump up a little each season.
And like you said, route density is where it’s at.
