I had the privilege of seeing Billy in Jacksonville FL in the fall of 2023 and he is still amazing...the coolest thing was personally meeting him afterward and getting my picture with him. He is a legend.
See the movie "Amadeus" "There are simply too many notes." - "Just cut a few and it'll be perfect." "Which few did you have in mind?" "There are simply too many drums." - "Just cut a few and it'll be perfect." "Which few did you have in mind?"
That drum set was stolen from him and MIA like for 30 years. He only just got it back in the past year or 2 and this club is across the street from where I work!
@holygeneration7 Thank you for that! Tama Superstars along with Sonor Phonic series were the best "modern " drums ever made. Missed out on owning both. I'm still kicking myself...
@@ivanbajovic3476 Yes, I recently heard about that! Almost all of the hardware was removed from all of the shells. Billy had Tama help him to restore the whole kit. Crazy story!
Billy is a truly GREAT drummer, why does he change drum manufacturers so frequently (compared with say, Gadd, Beard, Phillips, Wekl, Hakim, Paice, Jordan, et al)?
Saw Billy in a drum clinic years ago unbelievable drummer.

Great to hear him playing Birds of Fire, the first song I'd heard him in, changing my musical life forever...
This man gives this aging drummer hope that the gift is not lost with age.
I recognize the drum art from the Warning album cover.
I bought it coming home from my freshman semester in 1986. Iconic!
Legend. I'm 50 and idolized his drums 40 yrs ago monster kits and playing
Spectrum .. Stratus .. Epic for Ever ! ⭐⭐⭐
Absolutely. Try telling Taylor Swift fans
@@brianmckillop5017Try telling bonham fans.
Sounds like Birds of Fire at the beginning
This man was 78 years old at the time. Drumming keeps you young.
You don't stop drumming because you got old. You got old because you stopped drumming.
Great video...thanks for sharing...can you post some more of this show, if you have any more footage.

Awesome.
Beautiful looking drum kit

I think the kit is the one that was stolen and he got back somehow. I remember billy talking about that
Those look like late 80s / early 90s ludwig super classics
Mid 80's Tama Superstars. Possibly the same kit on his Warning album cover.
@@johngiummarra8983 Exactly correct !

That kid is pretty good, probably going somewhere with this drumming thing.. hah. Bill is a legend and still somewhat underrated
What? Underrated by whom? I hate that crap. You pulled that right out of your arse. It's Billy Cobham! Might as well say Buddy Rich is underrated.
@@libidooverdrive Because Jazz is so well understood and in the mainstream and people really care about musicianship. Also, cool story bro.
@colinburroughs9871 What actual hell does that mean? Sarcasm?
What drum brand is he endorsing these days? I like the square toms…very rock’n’roll for a jazz drummer, lol!
Tama

What suggestions would anyone have for the best recordings to listen to for him
Album 'Stratus' (1981) and first album Spectrum from 1973.
Add 'Warning' to what Ivan suggested.
