I'm actually 47 so I realized I came out almost 30 years ago. The gayest thing in 1993 or thereabouts was Madonna. Her "Erotica" album. Going to gay youth group meetings. Marky Mark posing in his underwear. I rode my bike 30 miles to buy that magazine, ha ha ha
I saw the original video before I ever directed a video in my life. It inspired me to become a director and now we work together and our friends! So, thank you Hot Couture and Manila Luzon! Congrats on 10 years!

I can still remember my American tumblr friend sending me a sc of this back in 2015 (hunter i'm talking about you if you see this) and it changed my life as a 17 yo gay man with huge internal homophobia.. to see such an loud and cheesy reclamation of what I understood was supposed to be disgusting... it was transcendent and transforming. I was never the same. I now relish in being queer :) It's amazing how much half a generation of gays drew so much strength from this track.

Was the first song I heard from drag race before I even watched drag race. Can imagine my 12 year old confusion over what I was watching and hearing but you bet your ass I fucking strutted like a goddess every time I played it in my room!
The eyeshadow palette scene had an eyeshadow palette dress and the steam room scene had a towel inspired outfit. She not only understood the assignment, she created, did and marked the assignment herself 😍😍😍 All the lewks were so good, I would not have minded if she saved some coin and did a call back with the Marie Antoinette padded look and heavenly look from all stars 4.

I was 17 when Hot Couture first came out and I remember being a closeted teen living with a very conservative family and serving as an altar boy in my local parish. This song helped tide me through some dark times, and when I got bullied at church for being queer, I played this song in my head - particularly when walking towards the altar dressed in my cassock and lace surplice, which were the closest things I could get to a dress back then. 😊
