Thank you for your reaction - kind words. Yes, the brother he lost was his older brother, only sibling.
We appreciate your message Jovita! What an incredible story your family will cherish forever ♥️
I am only 20 years old and not a native German, but I am very proud of your father! Greetings Kelsea
@@Kelsea-2002 Thank you Kelsea
To explain Franz Stigler's frame of mind in terms of "What came over him" as you put it. Franz's commanding officer had told him and the pilots under his command that if he were to ever hear of one of them shooting at a pilot in a parachute he would personally shoot them himself.
Franz at the time only needed one more shootdown of a bomber to have earned the Knights Cross and that was his original intention when he took off in pursuit of the bomber he saw pass near his airfield.
When Franz came upon the badly damaged B-17 and saw the plane so shot up and the crew not firing at him because they could not, as only 1 of the guns on the B-17 was functional, he viewed them as being no different than a helpless pilot in a parachute so could not bring himself to pull the trigger. And the rest you can see in the video.
Just in case you were wondering, the narrator said "Focke-Wulf". It was a company that made the FW-190 fighter among other aircraft.
This song is truly heartwarming, and shows a rare sight in war. I can recommend from Sabaton "Christmas truce" (which also has an animated video) if you like these kind of stories
Personally I prefer the live action video for that one, but honestly both are great. Especially since the animated ones usually provide some additional historical background.
UA-cam is full of engaging teachers of all sorts, and Sabaton are modern skalds, singing history so it isn't forgotten. They have a history channel as well, which does have a more thorough take on the Franz Stigler Charlie Brown incident, if you're interested.
Thank you so much ZodiacChimera! 🔥
Bismarck is one off the best sabaton musikvideo and the Song is a killer.
A higher calling” is the book related to this story and he said to a reporter “if you want to hear my story, first you have to visit Hanz Stigler in Canada to hear his story” so he went and spoke with him. This is a really good story.
Hi Reactors 👍🏼 THX for a damn good reaction on Sabaton history journey 👍🏼👏👏🇸🇪🇸🇪 Yeah Sabaton learn me History to and i am 65 year old ❤️🇸🇪
there are so many good sabaton songs, and as far as I have experienced, they tend to tell the true story of what happened. "The Red Baron" "Royal Guard" "40:1" "The Unkillable Soldier" and many more great and epic songs and stories about the greatness that is Man
hahahaha the unkillable soldier is a true story of what happened? If you think they're goal is to tell the "true story" i dont think you could be further from the truth. they educate, but things like who was right and wrong during war is always a matter of perspective. They even very blatantly imply this with their 2 versions of Carolus Rex. They have an english version were the song is very dark and King Charles is described as terrible ruler, and they have the swedish version (Carolus Rex, King Charles, was swedish), in which they describe him from the swedish perspective, it has a much lighter tone, he was extremely well liked by his own people.

@@scar445 well shit, i apologise. i've always just thought that was a very common war myth soldiers told each other as a morale boost.
I stand by the rest of what i said though.
@@Lukas-ht9xm true, history is written by the victor. just look at how much the british medieval people demonized the norse pagans
@@scar445 exactly, but i will say this, and this might be nitpicky, but i really dont like that phrase "history is written by the winner". I would be more inclined to say "history is told by the winner", because its true that the winner will lie to make their "success" more palatable to the general public.
But, "written"? I dont know, i think human history is written into everything around us and by both sides. It's physical evidence like ancient artifacts or buried stuctures that tell the true history of what happened. You can't fake isotope decay for example.
So, sure, immediately after an event, history is told by the winner, but as time passes people come along (historians, archaeologists, etc.) who can read the true written history.
Check out Sabaton history channel guys. short 15-20min history behind all their song
you gotta react to the animated story video to the red baron, too
What is unfortunately not said in this video is the following... if Stigler had shot down the B17, he would have scored 30 points on his scorer card, would have received the Knight's Cross and would have been allowed to go home. He threw all this in the trash for an enemy crew of 10! For him, humanity, honor, and fairness were worth more than all that.Such men and women are the real heroes and should be the pride of every nation! To call such a person a Nazi is simply inhumane and a disgrace!
