It’s Friday! Time for another weekly update.
A big thank you to the crews at Engineering & Public Works who came in on Christmas Eve to clear the roads of snow, ice and down trees, and continued working over the holiday weekend.
During events such as these, with many downed trees blocking roads, the crews first clear the trees from the travel lanes. They will be circling back to remove the rest of the debris from the right of way for weeks. I cannot say how much I appreciate the many hours and hard work that our crews put into keeping our roads clear and safe.
On Christmas Day, we woke to learn that a massive bomb had gone off in downtown Nashville. Thanks mostly to the heroic actions of the Metro Nashville Police, there were no deaths and only a handful of injuries.
On Sunday morning, six officers were recognized for their bravery as they evacuated people away from the blast zone. One of these officers was Michel Sipos. Officer Sipos is a 2015 graduate of Harding Valley Academy, which, of course, is located right here in Knox County. Officer Sipos, thank you for a job well done. All of us in Knox County are proud of you.
Well, this is the last weekly update of 2020, and I can’t say that I’m sad to see this year end. Challenging only begins to describe this past year. Nevertheless, there are still some great things happening.
So even as we reflect on all the awful things that 2020 brought, we should be optimistic about what the future holds. Knox County is still the best place to live, work, play, build a business, and raise a family, and it’s only going to get better.
My wish is that you all have a happy, safe, health, and prosperous New Years.
