How To Fix A Leak On Any Kayak Using A Gator Patch

- Recently, I noticed a crack in the bottom of my Hobie Pro Angler after fishing a tournament. I have no idea how or why it cracked that day, but my yak is a 2016 model with a lot of wear and tear. I tried to fix it with Flex Seal which was a horrible idea and didn't work at all. I then tried plastic wielding, but the gun I purchased($18) doesn't get hot enough IMO so there was still a tiny leak. We are talking maybe 6 to 8 drops and hour, but I did not like that it still leaked. That is when the Gator Patch came to the rescue. I should have used this all along, but lesson learned! Not only did it stop the leak, but it was super easy and adds protection to the area. This product is highly recommended by me for fixing a kayak. The awesome part is you can take these on trips with you and fix your yak pretty much anywhere. Including dragging it on shore and fixing a leak while on the water.

I'm at the beginning of your video...
I hope this worked for you... It's a year later...
Here are my plastic patch tip(s)
I've owned over 100 different kayaks and repaired a lot of them.
I don't use Gator, flex tape, flex seal, bondo, epoxy or anything else as a patch. Most of those dry hard or rubbery... Your kayak is flexible!
For my patches...
HOT PLASTIC STICKS TO HOT PLASTIC!
Now after I patch with plastic, I'll melt in wire mesh that I've formed to the surface of the crack or hole.
In a pinch, aluminum window screen works but I prefer heavy screen. I also round off all corners of the mesh.
I then lay another coat of plastic over the screen... BOTH SURFACES HAVE TO BE HOT AND BONDING (The kayak and patch plastic)
do not use buckets or detergent bottles or plastic food containers!
The best plastic is Playschool and Little Tykes furniture and play sets.
Also... Carlisle and Rubbermaid trash cans and lids.
Oh yeah... DO NOT USE A TORCH!
USE A HEAT GUN OR SOLDERING IRON/WOOD BURNING TO WITH FLAT TIP
Ok, now I'll go watch the video...
Thank you for the comment. A year later and its still holding.
That Gator patch worked like a charm! I'll have to keep that in mind just in case I have to patch my kayak up.
Yes sir! So easy to use!
I was about to try my hand at plastic welding but this has me rethinking that, my leak is in the mirage drive well
Yeah that sounds tricky. If you do it go ahead and spend money on one of the more expensive guns that gets really hot. The key is to get it to melt together well and that takes a lot of heat I came to find out.
So is it still holding a year later?
Indeed it is. Just make sure you really mash it down and get it set before you expose it to the sun.
We put that on my gas tank with drill holes someone did to my truck
Nice! Has it held?
