  • Some bus drivers on daily basis block station Road in Lewisham South London , because they are to lazy to drive their bus to the allocated bus station, this can cause hold ups and delays for other buses. This video is me taken action on this issue. TFL has done nothing in more than three years of complaining. My intention is to highlight their lack on consideration for other drivers and the safety issue.

    Very respectful yet firm. I actually didn't know drivers shouldn't be standing there, I'm a semi-regular visitor to Lewisham and see it all the time.

      I agree wholeheartedly, but London bus drivers in general don’t pull into the kerb properly at stops to allow people with infirmities, or those with pushchairs, to alight safety. In most parts of Britain drivers do so, but London seems to be on its own.

    I am so happy you have raised this. Something needs to be done about it. You are also stuck at the zebra crossing where people are trying to cross all because you can't get around. By the time you get around your stand, your stand time is finished. You lose all your time, and it's not fair that is selfish behaviour . This is what happens. They don't do anything until someone gets hurt.

    Thank you for doing this video! Quite lucky to have you drive on the 47 and 199 bus routes in the area so you can capture both the daily routine of how you work and local issues like this. Besides being a safety issue to let passengers off on the street and not the curb, I think it is worth mentioning that it is also a safety hazard to bus drivers. The turn onto the downward slope is quite a tight turn with a restricted view of what is happening on the left side of the turn. Many times, buses that I have been on fail to notice that there is a bus parked up halfway down the slope and barely stop in time to avoid butt ending the bus that is parked up. I am not sure who decided to put an alighting stop there but I think it is not the safest of areas for such a thing. It would be better to just move the alighting stop back up towards Station Road instead...

    “British rail” blimey that’s a throwback! Anyway yes you are 100% correct about this . Drivers trying to pinch a few minutes of stand time by not using the stand is no good as there isn’t any space around Lewisham these days.

    In Glasgow City Centre we have TRC rules for that exact thing, buses blocking up stops preventing other operators getting in. All operators have set stops that they service only, no waiting at stops, then once our doors closed then it doesnt open till we arrive at the next stop.

      We have that issue with the 47 and 35 at Shoreditch. TfL need to sort it and some buses need to regulate their time coming in, cos some buses run so early.

    Lewisham Bus station was screwed up when they built the new Transport interchange They converted a usable and spacious bus area into the postage stamp it is now.

      When I first saw them building the new station I thought it was small, but really it bigger than the last one, there has never been a time we don’t have space, but the old one use to get full up every week. Not sure if you remember that..

    I used to drive the 261 and 208 and this drove me nuts. Even if I was late arriving to Lewisham I would still go round to the stand. Drivers parking here just make life more difficult for their colleagues.

    I completely agree with you and when @Mike's Life (aka driving London) used to do the 261, he was always complaining about this. The old bus terminal was in a good location but it was wayy too small, now you have a bus terminal which looks nicer and is bigger but a pain in the bum to get to especially if drivers are late however, if the timetables were altered to allow for extra time to get to the terminus, there would be no excuses (not that drivers should be doing it anyway).

    • @thatbusdriverguy4182

      As far as o know the timetable does give you time to get around, if you are late that ok, they will soon adjust times if everyone is late going around. We should do TfL job for them my trying to do shorts cut..

    It’s restrictive trade union practices that are the cause of this, that I’ve seen back home in Ireland many years ago, with the old CIE (before Bus Éireann and later on Transport for Ireland) they actually got the Gardai (Irish police) to stop private coach operators from leaving country areas and to not allow replacement services to operate into Dublin Busaras Coach Station - during the last U.K. rail strike that impacted Transport for Wales in October 2022, the unions stopped rail replacement buses from operating, so I ended up being stranded in Holyhead for 2 days, unable to get back to Manchester and I had to frantically contact work to let them know that I would not be back to work in time after visiting family in Ireland

    It's all a part of the privatisation of London buses and each company only caring about 'their' routes. There should be TfL inspectors at places like Lewisham with the authority to intervene in contentious matters, liasing with company controllers where necessary, in the interest of bus passengers. A top rate Gold Inspector used to be worth their weight in gold in London Transport days, and the patrolling Ford Anglia cars with the roundel on top before that. The good bus driver had nothing to fear, only the errant ones! For removal of doubt, I was never either an inspector nor a driver, but I did work for the organisation in various roles.

    Happened to me on the 328 a 226 decided to stand on the live bus stop instead of going to stand at the green there I had to get around him it’s tight on a left turn too do blocked my sight going back to Kilburn Park road and other buses and cars fly around that corner to as I had to go on the other side of the road selfish F…ers ,your doing good bud

    I've seen that numerous times with drivers on various routes, some say that by the time they've got round to the stand it would be time to leave again. TfL should be doing something about it but it looks like nobody can be bothered.

  • @andyburbidge4938
    @andyburbidge4938 8 місяців тому +1

    Surely the iBus controllers can see that some drivers are not following the correct routing and layover points (not just at Lewisham), so should be informing the drivers to operate correctly. At the end of the day, it could be enough for TfL to fine the operators for failure to follow tender specifications.

    It's not only there things like this happen. I live in Kent and my local independent bus company often have the same problem with Arriva buses doing similar things. One that I ride on regular can rarely get to the bus stop and has to pull up behind the Arriva buses that usually sit there for 10 mins, he ends up blocking a side road and some of the elder passengers struggle to get on because the pavement has been lowered down to road height, where as it's normal height at the stop.

    Must be annoying for 199, 380 & 108 drivers. But it is what it is. It’s been going on for years and doubt it will change. If ur stand time is 5-10mins then u might aswel stand in the Station. Anything more then u should go to correct stand.

    • @thatbusdriverguy4182
      @thatbusdriverguy4182  8 місяців тому +1

      No you shouldn’t stand there it’s simple, did you see what the point I was making, your stand time could have finished you still need to end your journey at the stand. The attitude you’re presenting is nothing can change. It will change that why the video was made. My attitude, is change begins with us. Not sure if commons sense is common. Why would you stand at an alighting point 5 to 10 mins, you not suppose to be after your passengers have alighted.. hope you see my point.
