It's such a shame that they don't build the LeakSeaker anymore. This gadget was brilliant and second to none. I'd love to have one. Finding shorts can be such a pain.
great video. I used to use a ToneOhm for this type of repair. I now apply 1v DC (or an AA battery) across the shorted points and look at the board with a thermal image camera. The shorted component heats up slightly but lights up like a bulb on camera! The 1V doesnt damage anything. Thermal imagers can be purchased for similar price to what you paid for your tool. Just thought I'd share. thanks.
Man I really appreciate your videos. I’m not into gaming stuff but I just enjoy repairing test gear and most of what I do is musical instruments and amp related. Been setting up an electronica lab for the past few years and have watched some of your videos dozens of times. I especially love you the IC CHIP LOT hunting videos LOL I would very much love to see a video discussing all of your test gear, and in-depth look at what gear is most important when diagnosing circuits. Especially for someone like me who doesn’t understand the theory behind all of this electronics stuff… And why we should purchase certain gear and how it would help us to diagnose troubles. That leak seeker is really a great tester for someone like me who is new at diagnostics… And it’s more of a dummy tool that anyone would be able to use. Thanks for your content!
Just finished building my league seeker from components order directly from Dave at EDS. I couldn’t be happier! You should also look into the newer DE 5000 LCR meter. I think you would be super impressed!
don't hurry and go buy a leakseeker. read the comments below the leakseeker videos. I am dealing with a kit right now. he he does not resolve the problem soon I think I may have to get a refund through ebay.
I like your videos and the stuff you share to teach me and others, good stuff. For finding shorts to ground have you ever tried to inject a regulated voltage from a supply? Some people say it's dangerous as you can fry stuff(to which I agree somewhat) but if you use a very low voltage that no component would even be that low on I don't see the issue. Typically you set it to like 1-2v but set the amps at like 3-5, start lower with both though. Ive used this method to diagnose HDMI ic chips that have a short to ground and they heat up so you can tell it's the faulty component. Louis Rossmann has a video demonstrating this concept with his comportment level repair channel.
great job. 🙂 i wonder if a person can make a living fixing electronic stuff as in the days of TV repair? 🤔🤑 thanks a lot. 😊i wanted to see the leakseeker in action. 🤨🥳
Impressive repair job man! Good work! By the way, do you happen to have any JVC X'Eye donor consoles? I have a MINT, Like New X'Eye that I think has a bad BIOS chip that needs replaced...
They may have sold a battery pack (it’s familiar) but their official recommendation was to use the original TG-16 AC adapter for the detached CD and use the dock’s included AC adapter with the console (whether docked for CD games or undocked). So, yeah, it wasn’t too portable. ;)
i have a leak seeker EDS 89 , misplaced it and found it recently, but no power supply only the unit , can any one tell me the power requirement or specification for 220V mains supply.
Wouldn't bother with the Leakseeker. It comes with out schematics, setup values or anything else to aid fault finding. My own unit was faulty out of the box and the designer just ignored all Emails for assistance and judging by other complainers it's his standard MO. The guy is just a fucking crook.
I work with all kinds of electronic test equipment. The "leakseeker" is junk, it does not work and there is absolutely no customer service or tech support. The only thing the seller is seeking is what's on your pocket.

Great job! Amazing how quickly you found the fault using that bit of kit!

I really enjoy your repair videos. I wish you could show more from other consoles than the NES and TG16.
After seeing that LeakSeeker in action, my only thought is that I have to get one of those. It's definitely invaluable.

Wow, that's a great tool that I did not know about. As always I really enjoy your videos.
That LeakSeeker is awesome!

Im going to have to talk work into getting one of those LeakSeeker EDS-89. Will save so much time trying to track down shorts.
Really interesting video, thank you!
Very interesting. Thank you for the video.

I simply can't as I don't have a good supply yet, but yeah even kevtris does it that way.
You used TH2821B in video, and using this device in R mode with 0,0001 ohm resolution can find any short even in 2019-2020 !
Thank you, much, for this.

So, with the LeakSeeker you can only poke around on the power track, not the ground?
I love Real time repairs. soldering irons heated up and ready to go! its dead Jim!
Thanks for this vedio.i want to buy a leakseeker where I found it.
Well done
Nice video, any chance you might sell your leak seeker 89?

where can I buy one of these leak seaker 89's?! I want one so bad and can't find anywhere to buy it
I looked for this leekseeker on ebay and there wasnt 1 for sale. they must not have made a lot of them. Sure is a neat piece of kit though.
+mvsfan33 Yeah you prolly won't see it on ebay too often. I just checked the eds main page and it seems they no longer make anything!?!?
Awesome video!
Do you know where i can purchase a Leakseeker EDS-89

Deodatta Dive do you still need this information?
Good Job
good info , great video
I have a power dock that doesn't have power and I don't have the time to try and fix it. Do you know anyone who can repair for a good price?
thanks bro
test the cap tooooo, I want to seeeeee
I bought one of those and it was faulty but worst of all absolutely zero support from the designer he just ignores Emails requesting assistance.
Really helpful tool but damn its annoying😂
