    Sicilian Defense is so OP at lower levels because nobody knows theory and Black often gets an advantage right out of the opening if the White player doesn’t know what they’re doing.

    I've never liked the Sicilian defense, too much theory and lines. But I like the way you explain the reasons behind some movements, like Qc7. With more videos like this, I would definetively give it a try!. Thanks!

    I used to play chess online quite a bit, more than 10 years ago. I would go up and down in rating, 1400s, 1500s, 1400s, 1500s, 1600s, 1500s, 1600s. One day I hit 1700, exactly. And then I stopped for a while. It was nice being 1700s, why ruin it? And then I decided, it's kind of nice not playing chess. It's such a struggle, such a brutal game, there are likely much better ways to spend my time. And so I never played online again. 1700, frozen in time.
    I'm still fascinated by chess, though, so I can't help but watch chess videos online, and my favorite channel on all of UA-cam is called... AlessiaSanteramo. You have great positive and inspiring energy. So I decided to also sign up on Twitch and watch. Hmm, what name should I use? I meditated a bit, and then it hit me. Free cheese macaroni! (Yes, that was me, first time on Twitch this morning.)
    Then! I liked the name so much, I decided to see if it was available, and it was. So I took it. I also considered, I'm still too afraid to mess up my old 1700 rating! I can start new, and not worry about my rating. Perhaps I'll just play one game every now and then, and be sure to analyze my games and learn from them.
    So I played a game, and I won. And I played another, and I won. And another, and won. And so on. I've played 10 games, and won all of them. My rating is 1921! My account probably looks suspicious AF. Perhaps I've been a bit lucky with my opponents messing up even more than me, and my luck will likely run out soon. Or perhaps all of the chess videos I've been watching have actually sunk in?
    I was always a bit of a timid player, but in these ten games, I found myself sometimes thinking things like, "oh, I remember when Alessia played, she captured that pawn with the knight and got more control in the center" or "when Alessia played, she moved the bishop to g5, not f4" or "I'm not concerned about that, I'm just going to keep developing my pieces" or "queen side castle, and then, push! push! push!" or "wait, there's an intermezzo!"
    I know you put a lot into your videos, so I wanted to share this success with you :)

    Does this work for players below 2000? I have always heard that it’s too complex

    • @John_Carbajal
      @John_Carbajal 10 місяців тому

      It does work. Ppl say its complex cause there are many lines of theory and many possibilities but I don't know any theory and im 1800. If anything, choose between open or closed sicilian, or play and learn a sideline, my personal favorite is the mengarini variation

    • @GoodBadUglyChess
      @GoodBadUglyChess 10 місяців тому

      It can work but you really can't just play Sicilian with no theory. There are a lot of lines and a lot of tactics in the Sicilian. Study and just playing lots of (unrated) games are needed to get you familiar with all the positions that can arise from this rich, sharp opening. Use the Wiki page as a starting point and branch out from there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_Defence

    I don't wanna be hursh,but as flowing and instructional it seems,against an average 1500's players is not big deal.I mean I saw a lot of GM against higher rated opponents going with Sicilian & different openings indeed.Not against somebody blundering Rook on move 6.
