Hulk Hogan started out as a heel in the late 1970s. He became a baby face in late 1982. His heel turn was the greatest heel turn in the history of professional wrestling.

Exactly right. Hogan is so good to pull it off amazingly

Name any wrestler who evoked stronger reactions as both a heel and face than Hogan.

The only wrestler in the ball park is probably the Rock. Hulk Hogan had the strongest reactions as both a heel & baby face.

The move made complete sense. Fans in WCW were booing Hogan in WCW as a face up until this swerve. They were tired of his superman BS that had gone on for over 10 years and this move breathed new life into his career.

It only could have worked in WCW, where a lot of the holdovers from the Crockett era hated him anyway. The way Hogan was booked in the WWF towards the end of his run, it wouldn't have been believable if they turned him. Even when he came back in 2002 and they tried Hollywood NWO Hogan, the fans hardened to the Attitude Era all became Hulkamaniacs again.

A vocal minority of fans booed Hogan before the turn. Why do you think a riot almost started that night?

It's a real shame Arn never got to work Hulk after the heel turn. Remember, Arn had a victory over him and it would have made for an interesting mini-angle.

Hogan switching heel was nowhere near the big transition people keep thinking it was. Hogan worked heel style all of his career.
    1. Cheated incessantly with eye pokes, back rakes, playing to the crowd arrogantly. It just worked because he had some master heels to work with.
    2. Absurdly long shine in his matches. Average face had 2-3 minutes before taking heat...he’d get 6-8 if the match was 15-20.
Only ones I ever saw him truly work face were Andre, Orndorff, Dr. D, Savage, and Vince
