    There are subtle nuances in that original line up that make it special. I was watching an old clips from Alive & Alive ll footage. I noticed that Ace didn't have a lot of gain or effects on the guitar. It was very Les Paul sounding and hardly any reverb really. When he would get into a lead passage it took effort and clarity, there was a care put into it with a distinct vibrato. He couldn't hide and it was awesome!

    A rarity doesn't have to be a lesser song. I love Paul, but he buys too much into that mentality that popular automatically means better. Sometimes even great songs fall through the cracks. No one is saying you have to play 12 obscure songs in a row, but you could wedge in a great album cut or two that never got its/their due.

    • @Desolation66

      Glenn Page Music Yeah I don't know how he doesn't understand that considering there are artists he loves that have songs that weren't popular. I'd kill to hear some deep cuts.. just nothing from hot in the shade.

    3:20: 30-40 pounds of gear? Kiss costumes in the beginning were the heaviest they ever would be. They got lighter and lighter over the years, but I don't think they were ever over 10-15 pounds. What is worth bragging about is wearing the boots and especially the makeup. When you've got a bead of sweat hanging on the end of your nose, or trickling into your eyes and you're trying to play guitar and you can't touch your face to wipe off the sweat, that's very tough to do.

    I'm fascinated by Paul Stanley interviews, he's achieved so much in his life, he's a great vocalist, can play the guitar, has millions of adoring fans, has several platinum selling albums, has toured the world many times over, yet even after a lifetime of therapy he still comes across as incredibly insecure.

  • @cameramanzoomit

    Did Paul just actually attempt to claim that the AGT performance was NOT a lip-sync?? Wow!! Talk about insulting the intelligence of your fans.

    • @michaelmcwhorter7096
      @michaelmcwhorter7096 6 років тому +1

      Actually, he said that they recorded it live, but lip synced on live TV. I don't blame them for that, actually performing on live TV is very unforgiving. We'll see how his voice handles a full tour. Maybe they should record a tour rehearsal and play that for the rest of the tour......... lol

    • @heyjarrod
      @heyjarrod 3 роки тому

      @@michaelmcwhorter7096 Yeah, they just call that, “live to tape.” Bands have always done that, like you said. But the way he said it was a little confusing, I had to think for a second, ha ha But I don’t blame them. I’ve had friends have to that, even when they were in their mid-20s. You just can’t take a chance on technical glitches when going “live.” I couldn’t even tell, and I was right up watching in front. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen that, it’s a trip. The drummer was playing, but all the drums were covered with some kind of rubber like material. And nothing was mic’d, so he was just banging away playing along still.
      Did you catch that last tour? The last time I saw them was around 1998. 👍🏻🎸

    You know, KISS pretty much set the bar for me for all concerts i ever saw after I saw them. There where some awesome bands and great shows but not one, Not one was ever as good as a KISS show. It was a spectacle to see a KISS show. It was something you waited for all year or for years. I've seen big Judas Priest concerts and big Iron Maiden concerts , even Metalica and these where huge shows but still not on scale with a KISS concert. The show of show's as far as I'm concerned. The standard all others tried to live up to.

A customer who is not as interested and has not put the time, effort, love, and loyalty to the institution should not be given priority as to what the set list is! If they sit down, who cares? Be happy that you gave a bolt of joy and enthusiasm to the more rabid fans who will seemingly never see the band again!!!!
      You preach importance of family. STOP THE RATIONALIZATION ! Keep it a two way relationship , Paul. I respect all that you are trying to do to stay in total performing shape, but take that extra step. It is well established in the history books by not only Paul and Gene but also Ace and Peter themselves that they basically squandered their opportunity via drugs and irresponsibility. Peter can't play any more regardless due to age/physical limitations and Ace can barely keep himself standing on a stage as evidenced by Gene holding him up recently. No way can or will they be invited on the tour. Special appearances...perhaps...but not more than that.

      It's not haters, it's people with common sense. I enjoy a lot of Kiss songs, especially the early albums and Alive! is one of the greatest recordings of music ever, but you have to be realistic and call a spade a spade. Their run is over. They're no longer relevant to the current rock/metal scene and their stage show is no longer cutting edge or anything special. Everyone uses flamethrowers and pyro now. Back in the 70s it was new so people wanted to check it out, but nowadays every show has a good production. You can go see Foreigner or Styx and see a great light/stage show. Kiss has nothing to separate themselves from the masses except nostalgia. They've been playing the same set list for 20 years, it's tired and worn out. I've never seen Kiss and I don't want to. In the 70's? Fuck yeah I would. Even in the no makeup 80s I would. Not now. Not to mention the declining voice of Paul Stanley, the members ragging on each other through books, and the fact that there are better bands now. Kiss had its' moment in the sun, it's just time for them to step aside. Strutter, Black Diamond, Love Gun, and Shout It Out Loud will live forever though.

    Instead of leaving songs out, how about a concert - featuring each album.
    1 - A collage back-drop - representing that album's art & press-shots.
    2 - That era's stage.
    3 - That tour's costumes & members.
    4 - Paul could sing to a vocal-track - for all the high-parts he can't (now) re-produce.
    5 - The band plays with a video-screen - featuring Eric Carr's & Mark St. John's parts.
    6 - Inter-views & media (at intervals) - as a tribute to the past.
    [Sort of like the 1995 "Convention-Tour" - though with electric instruments.]

    Cater TO YOUR LOYAL FANS who stuck through thick and thin with the band. A customer who is not "as interested" and has not put the time, effort, love, and loyalty to the institution should be respected, BUT NOT given priority as to what the set list is!
We all want to love, and respect you as we have in the past, give everything, and consider everything possible, please.

    Great interview and yes the haters are just going to hate and call Paul a liar and other stuff, but it's HIS band. My all time favorite members of KISS are Ace and Peter but from reading their books and things I saw, yeah it was time to end that fiasco. Ace wouldn't show up and when he did he didn't want to do much. Peter was too busy trying to turn KISS into the Peter Criss show and even though Peter is why I play drums to this day, he can't cut it any longer and should have quit in about 1998.
    As for why a 3 year tour... They are almost 70 now, they can't take a full on 200 night tour and then wrap it up. So take a couple of years to give fans all over the world time to see them one last time. The venues have to be lined up and the guys need to rest in between the different legs of the tour. Didn't Elton John just announce a similar type of thing? The current lineup of KISS has been performing together for 19 years, that fact alone should show that maybe Paul and Gene aren't as hard to get along with as people make them out to be? Eric could easily move on if he so chose, yet he has been with KISS since 1991, that's 27 years!!

      Actually, we are both wrong, in 2002 KISS toured with Aerosmith without Ace but with Peter, then after then they performed with Ace without Peter and then for the Symphony stuff they had Pete no Ace, something along those lines, who can keep up. The band you see now though officially formed in 2002 I believe which makes it 16 years - both either way, 19, 16, 14...thats much longer than the original line up lasted combined!

    • @williamthompson5504
      @williamthompson5504 6 років тому +1

      Ron Just Ron actually we’re both off again again. The Kiss/Aerosmith tour was 2003. Peter was brought in because the promoter wanted 3 original KISS members or no tour. Ace refused to open for Aerosmith because they use to open for KISS. So that left Peter. However, KISS played a private show in 2002 with Tommy and Eric.

    I haven’t seen KISS since 2010. Paul is a prick about what the fans want. Goin Blind is not a rarity. It’s a great song I’ve always wished they played live. Like playing Hide Your Heart live. That would be awesome!!! I quit going to the shows for 3 reasons. No Ace or Peter, but their makeup they created is on other people. The same set list every damn tour and Paul’s voice was beginning to crumble. I’m 37 and have seen them unplugged at a KISS convention with Bruce and Eric. The original lineup 7 times, Ace and Peter together in 1995 and fraud KISS twice. A tour that would be fresh, top other tours and go out properly would be the original 4 w/o makeup. Paul doesn’t care or has no idea what lifelong fans want.

    That the singer Paul Stanley fights with Kiss's most exhausting songs is widely known at this time.
    It is therefore a smart move of Simmons to tour with a bunch of younger rock musicians who have their vocal voices in reserve,

It's possible that I never see Kiss in concert again and would like to see them again. Dude, c'mon!! there are still many people who have a spite by Ace and Peter!! They already were part of an era of Kiss, and Kiss were able to move forward with the years.
    A true fan of Kiss doesn't speak so many nonsense and crap like that here are read! There are a few so-called fans who remained buried in the 70's. Like it or not, Kiss has made history and still will be generations to come that they will enjoy their music, as I and millions more have done so so far.

    Paul needs to accept the reality that this version of KISS is a co-headliner at best. They need to do the right thing and invite all surviving members to perform...at least at the true finale. If they're gonna be stubborn, use Tommy and Singer in makeup. Then have them re-emerge for the encore sans makeup out of respect for Ace and Peter and have the latter come out for the encores in their respective makeup. Invite Vinnie to play (if he still can) in Ankh face, invite Bruce. Show a video of Eric Carr performing a drum solo, show the video of Heaven's On Fire while the band performs that number to give MSJ his moment. They can justify a $500 ticket if Paul just swallows his pride and acknowledges his fans' wishes.

    Michael Sweet of STRYPER had the same issues with his voice. He sings in a higher register normally but now he has turned it down an octave and his voice is great. He was known for singing extremely high notes and now he only sings high when needed. . . Paul sang in a lower register in the 70's in the studio because they knew what would happen if he sang normal. When KISS became their own managers and producers Paul started singing as high as he could because he thought it sounded cool. Now Paul is paying the price for it. . .

    Rarities for a reason? Strange Ways is "rare" for a reason? What is the reason? Because it's the heaviest thing that Kiss ever did and you didn't write it so you don't want to do it? Don't get me wrong, Paul... I don't want Kiss to do it now. I don't want to hear Eric Singer sing it and I don't want to see Tommy pretend to play Ace's awesome solo. I already saw the clip of Peter playing and singing it recently and THAT was a treat! The old man sounded great! Deal with it and get over your stale grudges.

He's responsible for making Kiss a place where it's completely dull, joyless and mechanical then wonders why Ace and Peter get bored? Thayer and Singer seem actually fearful of haivng an ooinion and may as well be working in Starbucks. Seems he's putting Bob Ezrin in the same camp ("when he's on form", and it was not long ago that Bruce Fairbairn faced Paul's' ire and hate over his production on Psycho Circus.
