Thanks for providing the videos on your 5.56/.223 hog rounds. I would like to see some gel test on your rounds you reloaded. the reloading info was good too.
I hunted hogs over the course of 10 years trying to get the .223/5.56 to work reliably on hogs. My shots ranged from point blank like yours to over 300 Yards. I’ve used 55 grain soft points from Federal and Hornady with lack luster performance. All body and neck shots. All but one ran off. The one that didn’t, I shot 7 times. First shot in the neck, dropped him, but he got back up so I plugged him at about 50 yards all over, two center mass, 2 in the Ass, then lastly one behind the ear. I’ve used 64 Grain Winchester power points with also lackluster success. Yes, I’ve had the same experience 5.56/223. It does seem to ricochet off bone. Especially shoulders and ribs. Those small light fast bullets if they hit something hard will change direction in the body. 62 grain Federal Fusions do seem to work well, I finally just got so frustrated trying to get the .223 to work that I got an AR chambered in 7.62 x 39 and never looked back. I’ve shot over 200 pigs to this date. I got tired of people saying I wasn’t a good shot or crawling through green briar at night trying to find pigs. 7.62 x 39 always knocks them down on the first shot and if it doesn’t there moving slow enough where I can get a quick follow up shot.
I can relate to that a bit, i shot a buck low sholder, hit the joint and that 55gr just went anywhere, no idea where. Buck limped into the bushes but endet there.... a bone fragment made it into the heart... got lucky Wild... i now stick to the 308's
Thanks for the info. I've used the 70 grain speer out to 100 yards with good results. The nosler 64 grain bonded, the 65 gameking, and the 77 otm sierra have worked well for me. The 55 sp, and hornady 60 sp, green tips, and fmj have let me down.
jacketed soft point or spitzer rounds? what's your twist rate and barrel size? and what type of platform,I've had bolt action rifle .223 pile the lead on top of each other at 100 yards
I was going to use 55grain federal soft point for my first hog hunt but now im considering just running winchester green tips since im starting to doubt the other bullets.
Funny you say that because I shot a charging hog between the eyes with 45 acp and bounced off. Could not believe it. Good thing I had another 10 rounds in the mag.
@maxsoregon will do Thanks for the info I will check those bullets out. I just purchased a .357 magnum for my next hunt. Really wanted a .44 Mag but just wasn't in the budget we will see how it goes.
I'm not a big fan of the ballistic tipped frangibles,,great for over 50 yards. sometimes I'm shootin 15 yards and they don't expand for me because of the speed. These are great rounds no doubt brotha, but have had some run off after a 20 yard shot through both lungs with no expansion
I planned on it,but I didn't get the opportunity to shoot on after I started pressin them. I since bought a 308 and deer hunt with that. I'm sure they'd knock a deer down,I killed a ton of hogs with double lung shots with those 70's
@@Floridawoodsman99 I got some made up but lost access to the property I hunted. Can’t find any hogs to hunt around me any more. So I figured I’d give them a try for deer this year out of my rifle they are coming out at 2700-2800fps with a load of imr4064 loaded up some with the Blc-2 and am getting much better 2900fps velocities and think I want to try them on deer this year
I seriously doubt that 55 gn v max bullets with a muzzle velocity of 3300 are over penetrating. More likely lack of penetration while the 70 gn speers are actually penetrating enough to hit the vitals. Also never seen a bullet bounce off.. get a grip dude.
I've killed more hogs than Jimmy Dean buddy. Experimented with every round possible on that platform. And I absolutely had in and outs within 50 yards with the same small hole, entrance and exit. And go back and watch the video on my channel of one of those shit rounds ricocheting off a pigs skull in black and white 1080p. You obviously have no experience on the subject so I wont waste my breath. Have a good one and be blessed
all he is doing is to promote a product the real truth is you got to know what round you are shooting I have shot every round of 223 and 556 through many AR 15 they all functioned well with a little fine tuning

Thank ya sir. I'll get some gel for a video. I kinda did all my testing on live swine

Yea I definitely went through a few different tips before I nailed it down. Glad you figured it out!!!

we've had the same experiences bud
77 otm is no joke.
My 223 shoots a little over 1 inch at 200 yard's with the 70 grain speer

Yes I reload. One gin likes h322 and 450 primer. The other liked h4895 and 400 primer

I shot a hog with a 450 bushmaster and you could see the smoke coming out of his head😂
55gr Barnes tsx works great for me. Point blank out to 250. Lights out!!
What would you recommend for hogs as far as a factory load?
69 grain boat tail hollow points.
A few manufacturers make that round
I use a 72 gr bthp Hornady black with good success
Came back to this video to ask a question @floridawoodsman have you tried this round on deer yet and what where your results

Lol that is weird!
I can’t decide if I want to use my 3030 or my 556
It's definitely cheaper to reload and buy whole carts for the 5.56. But that lever action marlin sure is fun
